Lolicore [Music Making] (93)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 04:27 [Del]

Lets make a lolicore compilation album, somewhat along the lines of DQN ELECTRONICS and such.

2 Name: FunK!rwR.piqyMM : 2010-03-04 04:32 [Del]

I wholeheartedly endorse this endeavour. And also the use of trips on this board.
Now all we need are some competent music makers.

3 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 04:36 [Del]

I'm actually pretty interested, can you list some of the better albums out there OP? Only know a little bit

4 Name: FunK!rwR.piqyMM : 2010-03-04 04:43 [Del]

goreshit is my personal favourite by far. Other artists worth looking into: sHimaU, Nasty Maid Grinder, Loli Ripe, Yuri Yum Yum and Okashi, but your mileage may vary.

5 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 04:44 [Del]

I don't think our music friends are awake at this time.

6 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 04:47 [Del]

People actually listen to this kind of music? I thought those albums were just jokes like MARGATROID's albums.

7 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 04:52 [Del]

>>6
People have different musical tastes? I thought those people were just joking when they said they liked music that I don't.

8 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 04:54 [Del]

>>7
Those motherfuckers!

9 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 08:17 [Del]

Can you better define lolicore? Possibly with some youtube link

11 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 12:24 [Del]

>>10
So sort of DJ Sharpnel type stuff? I'd be willing to try my hand at mixing something but I don't really know how to start.

12 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 13:49 [Del]

>>11
It'll work so long as it sounds good!

13 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 16:13 [Del]

I listened to a decent amount of tracks today, I'll start messing around over the weekend when I have some free time.

14 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 17:29 [Del]

>>11
>sort of DJ Sharpnel
Sharpnel = 'J=core', lolicore is far more raw than that.

15 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-04 23:24 [Del]

>>13
After the weekend, make sure you post up whatever poop you made so we can make suggestions!

16 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-05 14:05 [Del]

> lolicore
> j-core

Cool made up genres, bros.

17 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-05 14:50 [Del]

>>16
Feeding the troll here, but every genre name was made up at some point.

18 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-05 15:00 [Del]

>>17
Sure, but these aren't genres. They're titles used by weeaboos and faggots to feel self-important.

19 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-05 15:07 [Del]

>>18
Amendment, j-core also can be used as shorthand to refer to the Japanese hardcore scene, which is not a genre.

20 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-06 06:13 [Del]

Going though a bunch it doesn't even seemed to be that set in stone what "lolicore" actually.. Either some really high bpm that seem close to gabber and breakcore. But I found some tracks that are closer to HappyHardcore with loli/cute lyrics.

If you really wanted to colab an album, maybe something loli-THEMED be more fitting, instead of the genre.

21 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-06 16:42 [Del]

>>20
Yeah, like I said, it doesn't matter so long as it sounds good. Whether or not their song is lolicore is up to the composer to decide.

22 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-08 13:26 [Del]

>>18
Most people I've encountered who are into this sort of music are the complete opposite of self-important. Faggots, definitely, but not self-important.

23 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-11 12:17 [Del]

>>13
So.. Anything?

24 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-11 14:32 [Del]

Hey, hey, not a single track has been posted in this thread yet.

You know, you should try making an estimate of the amount of musicians that visit /jp/ and /bun/.

Then, try to estimate how many of those musicians are both willing and able to produce 'lolicore' (or any other extremely specific style).

Have fun with your one-man project. If you truly want to have even the slightest chance of getting something done, DON'T specificy such an extremely narrow scope. Maybe you could have somewhat of a chance with something like 'VN rearrangements' or 'Touhou remixes'.

25 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-11 23:47 [Del]

>>24
No worries mate! I was sort of expecting people to have a red-hot crack at this, without having any sort of previous experience, and we'll all laugh at the poop that we just created. No, I never expected anything approximating DQN ELECTRONICS in the first place.

26 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-13 06:36 [Del]

>>23

Work raped me, I ended up sleeping though the whole weekend. I hope to mess around tonight.

Are you going to try anything? Should at least participate in a project you suggested

Also, I love this track

It's not nice to post like that, Ira.

31 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-14 11:28 [Del]

I'm very interested in this and if I come up with something that doesn't suck I'll definitely post it.

Post even if it does suck. It's a learning process.

You have good taste.

37 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-23 22:54 [Del]

What do people use to make this kind of music?

38 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-23 23:04 [Del]

>>37
DAWs, VSTs, synthesizers, etc.

39 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-26 01:20 [Del]

Since people still aren't posting shit, here's something I'm working on (not hardcore however) http://www.tindeck.com/listen/xhss (Tindeck is cool now?)

I don't really know that much about music, so yeah! That said, for the most part, I liked it. Wasn't too fond of the ding ding ding that comes later though. Perhaps if you used a different 'instrument'.

43 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-03 01:55 [Del]

>>40
The mood is nice, but if we want to do lolicore, there should be NOISES. Try a fatter kick and some distorsion.

44 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-03 03:12 [Del]

>>43
Well, yeah. Like I said it's not hardcore.

>>42
Hmm, I guess I'll fuck around with the patch I'm using for the arp then (assuming that's what you're talking about.) It's not very good.

N'bad

46 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-04 19:40 [Del]

I'd always vaguely wanted to start producing chiptunes/breakcore, but the steep learning curve (no prior experience) and my lack of adequate hardware discouraged me. Partially due to a desire to contribute here, I have finally purchased a new computer. See you in a couple months, hopefully...

I like the feeling here. Suggestions following. I take no offense if I am of no value or if you completely disregard them, seeing as musical is a personal endeavor.

Although I really like the intro, it feels like it starts mid-thought. I can't decide if I really think it's a bad thing, honestly. You could play with working the treble portion of the first piano phrases (before the transition) in a few measures later.

Also, fill that bottom end. I'm on pretty bass-heavy headphones, but the kicks seemed very lacking. Not that you have to OONST OONST OONST or anything if that's not your deal.

I'd like to hear it again once it's fleshed out.

49 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-05 16:44 [Del]

>>48
Frankly, all the drums kind of suck (though, the kick is better now that it's compressed) and I'll probably end up reworking them before I'm through.

50 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-10 09:49 [Del]

Bored, so playing around with some shitty kicks.
Ohmicide is so nice~

Also, lets talk tools for production:
  • Hardware:
    • Synth: Access Virus C (which I haven't been using enough because my interface is hooked up to my desktop which is not working properly right now...)
    • Interface: TASCAM US-144
    • Controller: Axiom 49
    • Keyboard: Casio PX-330
  • Software:
    • DAW: REAPER (Cheap, works very nicely)
    • Synths: TruePianos, Drumaxx (sucks, got it for $13 though), various free VSTis (Superwave P8, Synth1, etc.)
    • Effects: Various free stuff.

For those who don't know where to start when it comes to this shit, here isn't a bad place to start. Also, wikipedia.

Where are my loli samples?! Without it, the song is just obnoxious techno jizz.

No samples for you.

54 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-10 22:00 [Del]

Installed Renoise and REAPER today, and messed around. What I came up with is certainly not lolicore, although I did begin to try to throw in a/some appropriate sample(s). It also, as could be expected, is not great. I have to give up for the night though, and figured I'd share the fruits of my first efforts. Sorry if the track is too quiet or too loud, I wasn't really sure while mixing it.

55 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-10 23:07 [Del]

I would serious give this a shot if I had some opportune samples to use. Anyone have links to those CD's full of various cliche'd on-liners from anime/VNs?

56 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-11 20:19 [Del]

>>55
You should try the Kokuhaku CD. Having confessions partnered with untz untz untz might be nice.

I'm back again to share what I worked on today. It's a bit more suited to the thread theme. Unfortunately, as could still be expected, it's not very good. Choosing samples would be a lot easier if I understood moon. Also, I don't know how to properly manipulate the samples once I get them. It will come with time, I hope. I would very much appreciate any [critical] feedback or suggestions, especially on mixing.

A recommendation for >55: I've been using Audacity and just record Stereo Mix to make samples. Link below if you're not familiar with the process.

Haha, I just looked up the original track after asking that. Interesting hobby. It reminded me of a flash from a while back. Not really /bun/ related, but the fucking song got stuck in my head forever. Linked to below.

Funny thing is, the source song doesn't get me at all. I find it pretty boring, actually.

Another shitty mix (but it's a real mix):
http://www.mediafire.com/?3lbnmnkl2in

Volume changes some at the beginning, had to fuck with the levels of my audio out. Also some fuck ups, the usual.

01. Alabaster - Looming Enemy [ALiCE'S EMOTiON:紅ノ樹海II -forest of crimson 2-]
02. RaverRose & Thermal Force - Eternal Cannon (DJ Rx remix) [FINRG]
03. Betwixt & Between - Hidden Radiance [ALiCE'S EMOTiON:Lycoris]
04. Pain on Creation - Ironworks [FINRG]
05. 〆G - frieren [Druggy's Acid RacK:Psychedelic Sensation]
06. Alek Száhala - Iron Squid [FINRG]
07. 源屋 - Judah's Pain [Monochrome & Colored Rec.:Future Sight]
08. Alabaster - Void [HARDCORE TANO*C:HARDCORE SYNDROME 2]
09. REDALiCE - Warp Attacker (Betwixt & Between Remix) [HARDCORE TANO*C:CRIMSON HARDCORE]
10. Alabaster - Forgotten Ancient (Remix) [Monochrome & Colored Rec.:Rust World]

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not because I usually make it pretty blatant that I like him. If I had to choose a favorite Japanese artist he'd be the one.

67 Name: Anonymous : 2010-05-02 01:31 [Del]

This was made by someone on /mu/ (Radioface). He asked for random sound samples, and threw them together to create a track. Nothing else was used (even the Amen break was provided). Because the thread was slow at first, I contributed multiple samples. Of them, two were breathing from Dennou Coil and the daily dose clip from Taishou Yakyuu Musume, so while it is not lolicore it turned out somewhat related. Overall, from the time he made the original post, 3 hours were used to produce the Mediafire link below. Inspired me a bit, since it turned out pretty well in my opinion.

I actually participated in a little contest that had bunch of user submitted samples lately, seem to be along the same line. Here are the resulting songs: http://iiichan.net/boards/music/res/10420.html

Not very weeaboo-ish, but there was at least one Japanese sample in the mix.
