Joyful Sound Unto the Overlord [Noise] (207)

It's quiet...too quiet.

Let's fill the space. Contribute sounds that you have taken the time to create or capture. It can be a song, a sample, a thought, a poem, a field recording, the sound of your breath while you sleep, anything. It does not have to be good quality. It does not have to make sense. It does not have to be brief. It does not have to have an apparent reason. Just post it.

Then, take it easy and lend an ear to what your fellows have to share.

After months, possibly over a year, of playing directly into my amp outside of some minor fiddling with an octave pedal, I decided to replace the dead battery in my Big Muff. After making this decision, I no longer remember why I thought that I should stop using it. Unfortunately, my rig has better tone than I have technique. This was recorded from the next room. Fender US HSS Strat > Big Muff Pi > 64 Fender Bassman (AA864 Fuck Yeah).

Pic related, although ancient. I wore that Crybaby out a long time ago, makes me sad.

Here's my poor attempt at blues improvisation on the guitar. Some messing around on the Gary Moore track "Parisienne Walkways". I kinda ran out of ideas at the 3:50 mark so it's quite bad after that

Played on my budget Ibanez guitar tuned EADGCF

>>2 again.

This was played with no effects, and recorded from within the room this time. Strat > Amp. For what it's worth, it was recorded with a Dell Mini. First portion is played through the neck pickup at almost full tone. The second (better) portion is played through all pickups, neck with tone down bridge with tone up.

http://tindeck.com/listen/kuco

I've found that these recordings don't just sound bad, they sound atrocious without pretty warm headphones. ヽ(;´Д`)ノ

I doesn't help that my skill isn't a selling point. I've only recently started practicing with any seriousness, even though I've played for quite a while (years). I semi-recently bought a metronome, but it confuses and angers me. Sorry, I'm sure that last statement upset someone. I'll be friends with it eventually.

>>3

That's pretty chill. What DAW and synth(s) were used, if you don't mind me asking?

>>4

I enjoyed this. I'll risk being painfully typical, and suggest some Santana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0uHRl-Q8Fo) or some Led Zep (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgICVL0J6uA) for future backing tracks.

Just a note, because I realized it may not be apparent, the project here is COMMUNITY BUILDING. The intended method of contribution to this project is SHARING. Everyone, including those who may not normally record anything in the course of their daily life, is highly encouraged to participate.

>>5

Do you listen to much sludge/stoner metal? I swear the first riff sounds like it's straight out of a track by Sleep. The second part is nice, very chilled and I like the drone note tying it together

And now for something completely different...

http://tindeck.com/listen/gqii

I tried out some looping using "Ambiloop" software, first time I've done anything like this but it was very fun to build up the loops.

Unfortunately some horribly offensive pops and clicks found their way into the recording, so I just cut all the high frequencies out in REAPER to try and muffle them a little. Now the track sound like it's being played through a pillow but oh well, I'll try again sometime.

Gear: Ibanez guitar (standard tuning), Fender bass (standard tuning) -> POD -> "Ambiloop"

As usual, the DAW is FL Studio 9 (actually, you can also see that in the ID3v2 tag).
The two main synths are DSK Odiseas, which is where the track got its name from. A Sawer is also used from a certain point in the track. The percussion comes from DSK Indian DreamZ.
If you're interested in the FLP file, http://www.mediafire.com/?zldlzceme1u

It almost helps the overall hypnotic effect. The pops and the fact that it's kind of muffled, that is. I've always kind of wanted to overdub my playing, but...well I don't know why I haven't.

As far as my tastes go, I definitely do listen to some stoner/drone/sludge metal, but not alot and it's kind of been a recent thing. I have almost always played with a drone note when I'm screwing around, though. Feels good (resonation), helps me screw around with key changes, and makes up for my lack of a bass slave. All of those riffs are off the top of my head or phrases that I've messed with for a while.

>>7

I appreciate the offered file, but I don't use FL. You can consider the synth acquired, though. Thanks.

More guitars. The other two in my humble collection.

My first guitar, a gift from someone who could no longer play. A Japanese classical from the lawsuit era http://tindeck.com/listen/iygo [quiet]. It sounds great, but I don't play it as much as I used to. I've become a bit too harsh in my playing style to deal with nylon strings One broke a couple days ago.

Then, my go-everywhere guitar, a somewhat abused Ovation Celebrity http://tindeck.com/listen/fzey. For being the least remarkable guitar I own, I think it might record the best on this laptop. It is also the best guitar I have for Richie Havens moments http://tindeck.com/listen/yuem.

Sorry it was so sloppily played, captain. There was quite a lot of stretching going on there, and there wasn't much prep time. I didn't have any confidence in keeping the key you originally had the lead part in, so I didn't try and just ended up devolving into my normal nonsense. I figured I'd share, despite it all.

So I said I'd be back in two months. When I said that, I didn't really expect to have not done anything since then. I was busy or discouraged for various reasons, but felt bad once I realized how long it had been. Sorry there's been no improvement.

That said, I do have a question. Any recommended synths/VSTs? Preferably ones that don't require expert tweaking, but have some room to mess around so I can practice.

I like it. I like it a lot better than the other two tracks on your Tindeck.
As for VSTs, DSK offers a lot of good free VSTs: http://dskmusic.wordpress.com/vsti/
But for more specific recommendations, we'll need to know what kind of VSTs you're looking for. For example, I like Philharmonik Orchestra a lot, but that's a VST with classical instruments, so I doubt it's the kind of VST you're looking for.

I like the drum beat in this. Is it panning that's used, or something else? Sorry to leave you posting by yourself, I've been busy. I'm sure everyone missed me! Have 10 minutes of wankery to make up for it.

Don't get fooled into turning up the volume before around a minute in.
http://www.tindeck.com/listen/blmb

This was played through my Big Muff again. Quite a lot of feedback in this one. Also, I forgot to mention that my bad second post in >>11 was without any effects.

I think this is the best sounding of my high gain recordings. That's not saying anything for playing, it just recorded the best. I've been experimenting with putting this damn laptop in various places without much satisfaction. I finally got the bright idea to put it right on top of the cab, and turn the mic down as far as I could. Seems like it works alright to me. Still lo-fi for sure, but it's probably as good as can be expected.

I'm sorry I haven't been going out of my way to make anything with much intent, but that was kind of the point of the thread. This has been an exercise in recording more than anything, and I've just decided to share. I have a low attention span when playing an instrument (if it's not apparent), so this way I can keep track of something if it sounds good to me.

Production! Production!

http://tindeck.com/listen/bxgc

I am trying to take it easy creating music, starting from a simple foundation and building onto it. All criticism is more than welcome. Specifically, I have absolutely no feel for mixing. Hopefully, one day I can make some dope beats! Melody! Rhythm! Let's go!

>>14
I forced those out of myself as contributions to the lolicore thread. I quickly got frustrated trying to make something suitable, and ragequit. Getting back on the horse, I figured I'd take a different approach. Thanks for the praise. To answer your question, I'm mostly looking for good/heavy bass synths. Free is nice, but not necessary.

>>13
Synth1 had already been acquired, but SuperWave P8 seems promising from a bit of fiddling. Thanks!

>>19
I thought it was good, and pretty relaxing. A simple but effective song based mostly on the bassline. I liked the use of the of the different sounds during the mid part.

Not very remember-able, but that's not what that sort of style is really suited for.

I should probably stick to a simple concept like this myself, I've been rage quitting on and off while creating music for weeks.

21 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-26 22:09 [Del]

>>19
Well, if money is not an issue here's some high quality softsynths:I only speak as a bystander for most of them at the moment as I'm poor and refuse to pirate instruments. Have still had the opportunity to fiddle around with most of them.

22 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-27 07:42 [Del]

So I tried recording something quieter with the laptop on the cab, but saw that it wasn't picking up well. I then dropped the laptop directly in front of the cab (mid-recording, you can hear it), and I like how it sounds. There are a couple parts towards the end that still clip badly, though. This was played through the neck pickup.

New day! New track!

http://tindeck.com/listen/cwxn

I'm not sure how much value can be placed into something with a day's work, but I'm really just practicing. I like how it turned out, regardless.

Question about clipping. I have avoided it like the plague, but it seems to me like my tracks end up turning out really quiet. Have they been quiet? Is some clipping generally accepted as ok?

>>24
This was fun, I enjoy it when the kicks are introduced. I wish I had something intelligent sounding to say, but I don't understand half of what was done to make it!

>>21
Thanks for the suggestions. I don't understand how plugins can be priced so steeply. I might be able to afford a couple, but they're such an investment that it's hard to make a decision based on internet research alone. I'm considering Reason, but for that kind of money I could get a bass guitar and amp, which is something I've been wanting for a while. Renoise only cost me $70!

26 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-27 20:39 [Del]

>>25
Well, I actually didn't know Renoise was that cheap, but that kind of pricing is the exception not the rule (along with REAPER in that regard.) Expect to put down 10s to 100s for high quality stuff, that includes things as small as effects plugins, it's a niche market. Most the stuff I listed is, however, higher end. If you dig around you may be able to find stuff in the middle that can satisfy you as well, it just requires more research. Also, demo shit, really, it works. If there's something specific you're looking for out of a synth I might be able to help you.

As for clipping, I'm no mastering engineer (and I doubt you'll find any here) but it depends on who you ask. Modern mastering technique mostly amounts to compressing the fuck out of everything, which does lead to some clipping and does destroy some of the dynamic range (See: loudness war, etc.), but there's still something to be said for a track that's nice and loud. With all that said, it's ultimately your choice as an artist if you're willing to introduce some clipping. Some styles of music go out of their way to overdrive the fuck out of certain elements.

No good chances to play most days, been that way for a while, and I have not been improving at the speed I intended. Oh well.

More wankery, through the muff, all pickups active, then only the bridge pickup from midway on. Typical stuff.

I'd like to propose a mini-collaboration project along the lines of http://www.inbflat.net It seems perfect for the spirit of this thread, and everyone can participate since you don't even need to play an instrument!

Check out the FAQ at http://www.inbflat.net/faq.html

Basically, record 2-3 minutes of ambient-style playing without melody or tempo and with plenty of space in between phrases, and upload it to tindeck.

Sounds, textures, noise, and spoken word are excellent too. Multiple contributions per person are also great.

If you're playing an instrument, please play in the key of C Major. I hope we can get lots of contributions and make an interesting collaboration.

You should start naming your songs. Numbers are okay if you only have a couple songs, but as you make more songs you really want to be able to refer to songs by a name, there's no way you'll remember which number belongs to which song if you have more than a couple songs.

>>46
I had that too, at first (I named my tracks things like 'Thingy', 'Stuff', 'Thatsong', etc), until I just stopped caring and named my songs after the first thing that comes to mind (I still do that - just check the song names on my Tindeck: Dead World, Tension, Rocks, Castle of Tears, Time, Oddysey, Despair, Eternity, Workshop, Illusion, Speed, Mist, Spiral...all just completely random names where I took the first thing that came to mind).
If you absolutely can't think of a name, you can pick a theme and name your unnamed songs according to the theme. I have for example the furniture tracks (Chair, Sofa, Bed, Table) and the animal tracks (Buffalo, Mouse, Eagle, Hyena).

I've recently been playing with LSDJ, but haven't produced a song yet. I will share when I've made something of course, but since it's taking so long I thought I'd post. Free bump for what I'm guessing was an accidentally saged post.

Also, for anyone who is unaware, LSDJ is a tracker for making chip music with a Gameboy. It's pretty robust for being a ROM, and can be acquired with a $2 dollar donation. There's little excuse not to have it if you're making music on a computer, as it will run with an emulator. It's also simple enough that, even if you have no prior experience and are just curious, it's a worthy investment.

>>52
Do you listen to a lot of soundtracks? Where would you say that you draw your musical influence?

55 Name: VDZ!!lUAPOB0u : 2010-07-27 17:52 [Del]

>>54
Yes, I listen to a lot of soundtracks. My influences are too many to list, but video game soundtracks in general are a large influence. There are a couple of examples where I can point out direct influences ('240 seconds' was directly inspired by The Prodigy's 'Omen', and 'Clouds' was inspired by Magome Togoshi's 'Gensou' (from Clannad) and Orbital's 'The Box [classical mix]' (from one of the alternate Tsukihime soundtracks), for example), but usually it's just influenced by countless things I've listened to. I also listen to any genre as long as the music is good, so I can't even list any specific genres as influences.

(Also, that wasn't an accidental sage post, I just don't think it's worth bumping the thread for a weekly post; those interested will know there's a new post there anyways.)

I play an 11 gauge string, so my normal tone is effected drastically by the added attack. With the strings that loose, my guitar sounded a touch more like a typical strat. I thought it recorded ok (except the second to last portion, where I decided I was done and was just going to hit the guitar), so I figured I'd share. Volume is way down on my guitar, so the tone is clean.

Thread definitely wasn't intended to only be electronic music. Thanks for sharing. I wondered if you might still be around. You contributed to the original music thread, correct? Anyways, quality work. Do you still use a Celebrity? It usually sounds like a steel string, but the way it's recorded almost makes it sound nylon occasionally. What kind of strings do you use? I'd be curious to try them out some time on my own Celebrity.

In fact, it doesn't even have to be music at all. If somebody has some interesting samples or whatever, feel free to post it.

I'll certainly take a shot at it. But no promises just yet, lemme see what i can do with it.

>>58

Haha when ya said it was tuned in B I was expecting some kind of crazy death metal. This is nice though, very bluesy. Yea I still use the Ovation, but also implemented a full body Harmony acoustic now and again. Strings are Elixir brand, Phosphor Bronze. So it is a soft string, but I also tend to play with my fingertips as opposed to nails, so maybe thats why it sounds nylon dominant at times?

And thanks for listenin amigos.

It wasn't horribly offensive or intriguing, interestingly weird and worthless noise are very strong labels. It projects an atmosphere well, but it never really grabs for attention. Maybe the piano was mixed a bit low?

It's interesting enough, especially that detuned piano part in the second half or so. I don't really care for that persisting pad part, though the other instruments are varied enough.

Anyways, played piano for a while, so I decided to record a bit just for fun. Unfortunately, I neglected to record all the good takes, so only this wonky improvisation is left:

I've been considering buying just enough equipment to mic my cab and record it in decent quality. Lo-fi recording can be fun in its own way, I guess, but I really am in love with my amp.

Tuned AADGBE, through the muff into the bass input. Loud, laptop is like 8 feet away from the cab and still got more than it could handle. Poor skill, as usual. Amp kicks ass, as usual. Lowest string is so slack that it effects the playability, but I tried to work with it. Maybe I should go for a higher gauge, but they don't sell many sets in 12.

Things like this make me want to play acoustic more. Nice work.

>>65
Do you normally play jazz, or was this a departure of sorts? The transition and outro(?) is pleasant and was well formed for improv. Thanks for sharing.

I don't, but I do a lot of freeform improv that often has a jazzy feel to it. This one was a more structured improv, which as you've heard is less than good. But sometimes recording the idea is a good way to keep it on mind, I've already managed to develop it quite a bit since then!

Tried some interesting things with it. Composed the entire thing in a 9/4 time signature, and I reused the forgotten trick of checking what an arpeggiator does, placing those notes manually, then rearranging them (haven't used that since...Q2 2008 or so?).

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, the track being named 'Nine' after I've finished playing 999 is pure coincidence; it was actually a reference to the odd time signature.

97 Name: Anonymous : 2010-12-19 16:07 [Del]

>>96

Was it really necessary to use a 9/4 time signature? Everything in the piece fits just fine into a 4/4 time signature with triplet feel arpeggios; and the bass line subdivides into 4's not 9's anyway

I like the piece, just saying that it's not really in 9/4

>>97
Well, the thing is, I actually don't know a thing about musical theory, so all of my musical "knowledge" comes from just trying stuff until it works and discovering how stuff works that way.

I basically just changed the time signature until it made sense. It would be hell to figure out where all the notes are supposed to go in 4/4 in certain patterns (such as one of the piano patterns presented here), so I switched it to 9/4.

(Would sage this post, but the only thing above this is some stupid 'lolirap')

How did you come up with those note durations? They look really weird (the short notes look to be 4:3 8th notes, no idea about the rest) but it still sounds "normal" despite how it looks. Certainly does have a 4/4 feel for most of the piece, not including parts like the beginning two measures (which you can use 3/4 or 6/4).

Just for the fun of it, I tried transcribing that part to make a "simplified" version that doesn't use weird note durations and transitions into 4/4 time. I had to use a metric modulation to make 16th note = 16th triplet, so it's best to use a starting tempo which yields a whole number when divided by 3/2.

Basically, you submit a track, then it takes a lot of time for the site admin to listen to it, who may choose to instantly accept or reject it, and otherwise passes it on to the judges panel, and the judges will vote whether to accept or reject the track. As stated on the OCRemix Judges Panel FAQ:

>The total acceptance rate of all music sent to OCR's Submissions Inbox ranges between 10-15%. The acceptance rate of music forwarded to the judges panel ranges between 15-20%.
>After initial review, about 45% of all submissions are rejected with no further evaluation, 50% are forwarded to the judges panel for further evaluation, and 5% are accepted with no further evaluation (also known as a 'direct post').

In other words, it'll take a while until there's any news about it. As of December 22, they've handled all of the tracks submitted before November 1st (handled as in, the site admin has listened to it and the judges are judging it).

I think it is a fun remix. Just to make sure we're clear, you understand that's not really a bass synth? It's a highly distorted kick, which is more or less what gabber is about. I am not certain if you're insulting gabber in general, or if you didn't know.

Unrelated to this thread but I wanted to mention it somewhere...I joined Global Game Jam (a yearly event where people create a game in teams in 48 hours) this weekend, and this is what our team made: http://www.stack.nl/photom (requires Unity Web Player). To make it at least a bit related to this thread, the music you hear when playing was originally composed by me, then arranged by the other Sound Engineer (not sure if that's the right term for it. I made a track in FL Studio, then converted it to MIDI, then she used the MIDI to create a very different sounding track that's still the same in a way).

I'm not sure if this is the accepted term for that, but it's what I tend to call "rendering." The process is fairly analogous to the CG usage of the word, as a MIDI file can be considered similar to pre-image before it's rendered.

Interesting piece, by the way, though a bit removed from your usual sound pallete.

While your submission is appreciated, after initial review OverClocked ReMix has decided not to post it or forward it to the judges panel in its present form.

There are several common reasons why submissions might not make it to OCR's next stage of evaluation (bolded & italicized if applicable to this submission):

* the arrangement is merely a MIDI or game music format file assigned new instruments and/or given added effects
* the arrangement is not different enough (e.g. structure, tempo, instrumentation) from the original game music
* <b>the arrangement is too texturally sparse, too underdeveloped and/or too repetitive</b>
* the sound quality (e.g. sample quality, sequencing, mixing, processing, recording) is poor
* the writing or performance quality (e.g. frequent clashing or wrong notes, mismatched key signatures, sloppy timing) is poor

Less common reasons include (bolded if applicable to this submission):

* extensive direct sampling of the original game music audio
* extensive incorporation of non-game music or lyrics (e.g. mainstream, classical, etc.)
* arranging music that was not originally created for a video game
* the arrangement bears little resemblance to the original game music
* creating a track out of sound effects
* creating an entirely original track that in no way arranges game music

For more clarification, please read OCR's Submission Standards, located at http://ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions. To get a better feel for OCR's arrangement and production standards, we recommend listening to what's currently posted on the main page.

Provided that your submission is a genuinely interpretive arrangement, if you would like to work on this ReMix to improve it, we recommend that you post it in the Post Your Game ReMixes forum at http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16 for further community feedback. Getting feedback there may help you should you decide to resubmit your track in the future.

You can also check out our Music Composition & Production forum at http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12 for technical advice. Judges panel decisions, which are often helpful in seeing the criteria used for the next stage of evaluation, can also be viewed at http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15.

The important thing is not to be discouraged. Whether it be a revised version of this submission or a brand new submission, we look forward to hearing your work in the future.

Thanks,

OverClocked ReMix

Most likely not for quite a while. Considering Ruined World was rejected without even a vote from the Judges Panel, I'll need to have seriously improved before sending in a track to have any chance of even reaching the Judges Panel. I also haven't been making a lot of rearrangements lately (as in: only one quick crappy rearrangement in the past year), so I likely won't even have much to send in.

Nah. I just thought "Circle" (as in, the shape) was a good name for the first song, then I created two more songs that share a lot of elements with it, so I decided to call them Square and Triangle. I took the pictures from a single picture from an article about the Playstation button layout, so that's why they look like Playstation buttons.

It develops nicely.

My netbook's mic developed a problem quite a while back, I think it finally gave up after being abused with high SPL. I recently got a new phone which is allowing me to record again. Since I've last posted something, I purchased a loop pedal and also had some work done on my amp. I've had it for over 4 years, and decided it was time to get it checked up on even though there weren't really any issues. It ended up being quite a headache and involved much travel, but the end result was beyond what I had hoped for. The guy told me all the caps and tubes appeared to be original, making them at least 47 years old. Although I sometimes miss the rougher sound, the bass response has tightened and it has much more headroom. This is a track utilizing the loop pedal, an Akai E2. I'm still experimenting with recording distance, and this one came out very quiet.

Now we're finally having some actual discussion rather than endless posts of only links...

What do you guys use to make music? (Instruments, software, etc)

I use FL Studio 9, compose everything with mouse and keyboard. I have a MIDI Keyboard, cheap acoustic guitar and broken bass guitar, but I never use them. The broken bass guitar is a new addition the the collection, I was thinking of plugging it into my PC to see what kind of noise that produces, but I don't have the right cables.

179 Name: Anonymous : 2011-09-27 22:01 [Del]

All of my gear is documented, but I'll reiterate.

Strat/Sometimes Ovation > Reverb/Delay > Loop/Delay/Tape Delay > Amp

As far as software goes, I have the Ableton Suite which I never mentioned because I've unfortunately never really use it. Only significant changes I can think of is that I did not really play my Ovation through my amp until I got my amp serviced, but it now sounds OK at lower volumes due to the increased headroom.

On my wish list are a mahogany bodied guitar with two humbuckers (currently considering a Schecter C-1 Classic over the typical LP/SG/Flying V), an additional loop pedal, a new cab, a fuzz pedal with more mids and maybe eventually a new amp and cab for the bass. Despite being very happy with my own, I'm always drooling over amps, most of them which would be much too loud. A Matamp GT1, an Orange OR120, a Marshall Plexi, the occasional Sunn Model T although I don't think it would quite be my thing, I even thought about giving Dwarfcraft or Electric Amps a holler back when I had some discretionary funds. I've recently had some things come up that may require money, but I have also declined opportunities to spend in various areas. Depending on how things balance out I may have something new to play with in the near future.

My gear has also been mentioned in this thread, but I made a couple of changes so I'll restate too.

My main guitar is a strat with humbucker pickups. I've also recently replaced the neck for one with a scalloped fingerboard, 22 med-jumbo frets and a satin finish. It's a great guitar.

My bass is just a regular old J-bass. I love it though. I string it with Rotosound SS roundwounds.

I don't use any pedals or an amplifier anymore, I just use software amp and effect simulators and intend to do so for the forseeable future, I really like this method.

I have a midi keyboard too. Since I've been playing a lot more keys lately in the hopes of learning how Geddy Lee does his magic, I'm thinking of flipping it on ebay and purchasing a much nicer one with a couple more octaves and keys that are not shitty. It would be nice to get a Nord or something but they're a little pricey.

Gear wish list:
A new J-bass with some features more to my liking (hotter pickups in the 70's position rather than 60s, VOL/TONE/BLEND electronics, maple board with block inlay). I'd probably build it up from Warmoth parts. Perhaps a project for next summer. A nice Aguilar DI box and a crate of Roto strings and I'll be happy.

Of course. Unless you're going to scream loudly into the microphone or make similar horrible noise, anything is fine as music in the background, even if it's not the best performance ever. In the first place, the original use for this thread was to

So don't ask, just post it.

You realize those samples are from when /projects/ was new, right? Nowadays there's like only ten people still around at /projects/ from which half of them at most contribute, and the rest rarely ever comments. I lost faith in /projects/ ages ago.

I'm serious. I just went through the past 6 months of /projects/ and wrote down how much activity there is.

In total, there have been 11 contributors in the past six months. Of those 11, only 4 have made more than one contribution.

In those six months, aside from contributions, a total of 45 comments have been posted. That's 0.25 comment per day, 1.73 per week. If you don't count the sound thread (which almost exclusively had half-forced discussion because I wanted to break the silence) and the 'Society for the Archival of Modern Original Content' threads (where 99% of comments are 'when will the next thread be archived'), that's a total of 18 comments. That's 0.1 comment per day, 0.7 comment per week.

Basically...a single /jp/ OC thread gets more OC and many more comments than a whole year of /projects/. Call me pessimistic, but when aside from the archive guy and me barely anybody ever posts, I just can't say I have faith in /projects/.

(Threads that received comments in the past 6 months with amount of comments:)
16 comments in sound thread
7 comments in Society for Archival etc 3
4 comments in Society for Archival etc 4
4 comments in VN project thread
3 comments in Bar Eastern
3 comments in Lolicore thread
3 comments in Weeaboo Mashup Album
2 comments in 'translating the dark horse'
1 comment in fucking VDZ
1 comment in Valkyria Chronicles mod
1 comment in writing thread

I had the urge to mess around, but I didn't really have any real inspiration. I ended up throwing a sample of a single note and a kick on two separate tracks each and then made a project of fiddling with EQ, reverb, delay and a bit crusher. I'd like to think that the resulting 17 second clip "sounds" OK (albeit quiet), but I'm not sure I like the beat stagger. Either it feels awkward or I really am only comfortable with a four on the floor approach. Also not sure about the kick, maybe too much reverb or I need to find something that sounds better. All done with Renoise, no extra plugins due to being on a new computer. This was obviously nothing complicated, but opinions on mixing/mastering are welcome.

I want to try contributing something too, but I think I'm too intimidated by VDZ's gigantic e-peen. Wat do?

Just post it. The reason there's so many VDZ posts is simply because NOBODY ELSE IS POSTING ANYTHING. The OP specifies it doesn't even have to be music. Just post it, or else the thread will be nothing but VDZ/General.

Hi VDZ.

Hm. What's the point, though? It's not like anyone visits /projects/ anyway, and discussions are pretty much non-existent nowadays.

There are people visiting /projects/, they just don't say anything because they all figure nobody else visits /projects/.
