I, for one, is really looking forward to Rhythm Thief, the trailer had me grinning like an idiot all the way through. Seems like the 3DS finally is getting some games worth grabbing.

I've also been playing Little King's Story lately, I never finished it for some reason, and there's something about the names of the citizens that puzzle me. Okay, so I guess Marisa and Alice are somewhat common names, but Mokou and Tewi? Merlin wouldn't be so strange alone, but there also two in my country named Lunasa and Lyrica... That can't be a coincidence, right? Was there a Touhou fan in the dev/localization team?
The game is excellent by the way, even though Pikmin had better controls, there's just so much more to do in Little King's Story. Or at least it feels like that.

I'm looking forward to New Love Plus, and will probably end up importing a 3DS for it. It sucks though because I know I will probably play for 5 hours and then forget about it again. Hopefully they made the game more grabbing this time.

Nothing really looked good for the Vita. I never finished Persona 4 on the PS2 so I guess I can play the Vita version but yea. Kinda glad there is nothing good coming for the PSV though, I was going to import it, which woulda cost me an arm and a leg with the exchange rate.

I've been playing some Grand Knights History lately, and it's great! Being Vanilla Ware, the presentation is of course top-notch, especially the music. A little more character customization would have been cool, but I'm not really complaining. The combat system is really nice too, it similar to Radiant Historia's, but with less focus on moving people around the grid.
There's only one issue I have with the game, and it's a rather big one too: the fat-cat dunkasses over the pond decided to restrict online play to Japan, so I have to use slow-as-hell proxies. I even bought it fair and square!

Playing Deus Ex, and just did the mission for the bartender in China. I can't believe there was an option to say that Chinese people all look the same. This is definitely a great game. Shame I suck so hard at it. I really need to learn to resist the temptation of stungunning all the enemies I see, as I risk being detected.

The first boss fight was also complete bollocks, as I had no chance of beating him, other than throwing gas canisters at him, running across the room, then throwing explosive barrels at him[/spoilers]. Took me ages.
Who else has played it? How did you play, and what did you think?

I was frustrated with the first boss too until I remembered that I stole the rocket launcher from those gangbangers, then I just shat on the first boss.
For the two bosses after I just used my heaby rifle. Didn't carry any ammo for it either, just the gun fully loaded. By the third boss my heaby rifle was fully upgraded and I had no recoil/movement penalty so I shat on him hard.

I forgot to pick that up, and I focus on stealth, so I don't have any weapon skills. I do have a machine pistol, but I just use bumrush, stun gun and tranq rifle. Are all the bosses like the first?

The second seems doable with stealth, the third was over so fast since I just kept left mouse clicked with the cursor over his head and he was dead before I spent 75 ammo (read: 4 or 5 seconds of firing, 200 in a full load once you upgrade the heaby rifle) that I have no idea how the third one fares.

Haven't played too far in Disgaea 4 (about 12 hours so far), but I share the sentiment of >>36807; it's quite fun. Easily better than D2 and D3.

I like the Cam-pain HQ system, and a re-tweaked Magichange, monster fusion, and 3 Evilities per monster-type make monster units considerably more useful and worthwhile in this game compared to the previous ones.

But man, EVERYTHING runs on mana now. Want to learn a new skill? Mana. Boost a skill? Mana. Learn a generic Evilitiy? Mana. And of course, Mana is still needed for proposing bills in the various Assemblies. Gotta subdue Managers to make life easier.

Dark Conflict (Days of Ruin if you're filthy American pig) is much better in my opinion. Of course it's just an opinion, but you can't argue against the fact that Dual Strike is broken as fuck and Dark Conflict is not. I thought the story and characters in DC were much better as well.

>Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
You might want to skip this one as Shu Takumi (series creator) didn't work on it. If you're really jonesing for some lawyer action you could check out Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice instead. Sure, it shits all over the series continuity, but it's arguably a good standalone game and much better than Investigations in my opinion.

If you're really into Strategy RPG's like me, you may want to check out Final Fantasy Tactics A2. The story is shittier than ever, but the gameplay shines. It also has really nice sprite graphics, but I don't know if you care about that.

If you live in Europe, you should get Last Window. It's the sequel to Hotel Dusk. Both games have excellent atmosphere and they're totally great! They also use rotoscoping for their sprites, which is totally awesome to the max.

Have you always dreamt of taking care of a kawaii little bear-girl? Then Kumatanchi must be the game of your dreams! It's like a tamagotchi clone, you feed the bear, teach it tricks, socialize with the other animals in the zoo and not much else. It's a really cute little game and it has the fucking most sweet ass graphics I've ever seen on the DS. But I guess that isn't such a surprise when it's made by VANILLA WARE and it has character designs by that one dude who made Habanero-tan.

Not yet. This was pretty much a spur of the moment purchase, as it suddenly came to mind that they should be getting even cheaper with all the revisions. I went on ebay, flipped through the listings for a day, and grabbed one with a broken power switch (I can use a pen to turn it on). So, I haven't decided which flashcard I'll be getting yet.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I'll probably start out with:
-Chrono Trigger: Heard a lot about it
-Zelda: Usually a solid choice
-Tactics: I loved the original, though I haven't played Advance yet. Playing both shouldn't be a problem, I've been itching to play this type of game recently.

Problems include:
-constant random crashes
-options menu is greyed out (I shit you not)
-sound/music randomly disappears
-distinct lack of in-game information. Few tooltips, encyclopedia lacking, no tutorial or helptips, manual doesn't explain anything.
-problems with battle AI
-all AI combat is auto-resolved real time. In other words, if 5 AIvAI battles take place it'll be about 20 mintues before your turn
-very clunky UI

An obvious beta. Wouldn't be so much of a problem if they admitted the game wouldn't be finished by release, but instead they deceived the consumers into believing what they'd be getting is a proper finished product.

That said they the base for a great game, and they have (repeatedly) apologised and are working to fix things with patches. Best off waiting a few months before checking it out to see how things have turned out.

Yeah, I'll agree that Dual Strike is way more unbalanced if you play with CO powers on and/or force ranks. But the story mode is fun, and playing against other people is okay if everyone implicitly agrees to avoid using overpowered COs combinations.

The thing that drove me crazy about Days of Ruin were changes to long-established parts of the Advance Wars formula, e.g. raising the Infantry unit cost from 1000 to 1500. Completely changed meatshield strategies since for 3000 you could only buy two instead of the usual three. And then there's the Anti-Tank unit, what the heck.

But I guess it's ultimately a knee-jerk reaction to how DoR was a huge shift in the series. It's really not that bad and I should have mentioned it earlier.

It just threw conventional balance out the window, that's all. For example, 7000 in funds used to be able to buy 1 Tank or 1 Artillery (6000) plus 1 Infantry (1000), and they were about dynamically equivalent.

But like I said, it's not necessarily a bad thing. It just forces you to clear all conceptions from the previous games in series and approach DoR with a fresh mindset.

Dual Strike just felt really bloated to me. There were too many unnecessary units, commanders and even game modes.
Dark Conflict took everything back to square one, it felt really fresh and it also had this nice grimdark setting. Not that the original's setting was bad or anything, but the whole "WAR IS FUN WITH FRIENDS"-thing always creeped me a little out. I mean, look at Jake, it looks like he came straight out of a mall or something.
The anti-tank is dumb though, I'll give you that.

Oh damn, Advance Wars discussion?! I used to play the first and second ones alot. I played them so much that I had to buy another GameboySP because the batteries from the first one died.

I unfortunately do not own a DS though I completed Dualstrike and DoR on an emulator. I loved dualstrike even if it was unbalanced while DoR was an absolute atrocity to me. My biggest gripe with this game is the atmosphere of everything. Too grim for my tastes. The music was all metal and most of it sounded the same to me.

I hope a 3ds Advance Wars gets announced soon. I'm thinking they may just call it 3ds Wars.

I don't know about best in the series. Everything from Seaside Hill and beyond has some pretty shoddy level designs. The Classic Sonic stages don't hold much of a candle to Sonic 1 through 3&K and Sonic CD. And as far as 3D Sonics go, I'd say Colors is definitely the best. Generations is still a good game, though, and Sega's proven the Sonic Cycle is dead and buried.

Microphone input works with No$Zoomer, so you don't need a DS to get nearly everything out of Love Plus!

http://forum.romulation.net/index.php?topic=55707.0
I followed this to set up the emulator, and hit "Enable Microphone" under "Options" which puts a checkmark beside the option. I restarted the emulator one last time, and although the checkmark has disappeared, when I go to Love Plus' sound option, and do a mic test, it shows that my mic is functioning correctly. Hooray!

I haven't progressed that far yet, but I've read that you need mic inputs later on in the game.
Here's an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjx3_NndXis&t=36s

Another case where you need a mic is when you turn the DS off without saving (resetting the emulator without saving), the girl you have the most points/flags with shows up and chides you not to do that, and you have to say "ごめんなさい (Insert name of the girl here)"

I played the game some time ago, and there's (provided you're on the Rinko route) a dream sequence with Rinko where she won't let you leave the house until you say "I love you" one million times. Basically one of my favourite moments in gaming.

You can also chat with your girlfriend, the game recognizes a couple of simple phrases like "hello," "how are you doing," et cetera. I thought it was pretty cool. This isn't really mandatory or anything though.

Neither of those guys, but the main thing it had going for it was a great atmosphere. I felt a real sense of solitude while trampling around desolate underground malls and dilapidated hotel rooms. One of my favorite aspects were the optional memory items that had nothing to do with completing the game, but had interesting side stories that helped flesh out the world.

But there's a lot working against the game too. Namely the controls and combat system, plus the last third of the game felt rushed and lazy (basically, everything after the dam). Also, I didn't like the direction that the story went (the reason provided for why the world went to ruin was weak. It honestly would have been better left unexplained, in my opinion).

So with that said, I find Fragile Dreams hard to recommend, even though overall I enjoyed the game and found it quite memorable.

I was prepared to hate it but it gives me a sense of adventure that I can't help but enjoy even if it isn't the game to end all games people expect of it. I like Sword Girls so far. The artworks are all nice and gameplay is pretty fun. Collecting a deck is (from my brief 2 hour play) pretty addicting as well. Music is nice, but it gets repetitive. Also, the involvement of luck as the above anon says: damn, in one of the dungeon battles, the enemy won the coin toss 6 times in a row. (Which fortunately didn't matter since my cards were mostly high DEF, STA cards.) In the first boss battle, the damn bastard of a lion kept bringing out his maids while decreasing their SIZE. Because he kept on winning the coin toss, I couldn't finish his maids off fast enough and they kept on buffing eachother while their size constantly decreased: that round, obviously, ended up in a terribad loss. Another con is how tiny the game's resolution is: I want to be able to look at the gorgeous artwork in larger resolution!

I have not tried PVP yet since my deck probably sucks compared to other players', so I plan on getting a better deck first.

BTW: which factions' starter deck did you people get? I went with Darklore because I liked the Darklore Character to be the drawn most nicely. In retrospect, though, I should have gone with Crux since their buff seems to be better.

I started with the vita deck because you know, vita. Layna card though since it's not really deck dependent and is only 1 size. There was another darklore card I got that destroys the card in slot 2 that seems pretty good too. I really can't see myself playing this game anymore so if anyone wants to try them out on my account I can get the login info. It also looks like you can use the same invite key to join the beta so if anyone needs one mine was SWORD1337. I know, cool right?

>> No.38181

Cards are categorized by SIZE, ATK, DEF and STA. You can place 10 SIZE worth of cards on your field. During battle spells activate first, in random order. Then followers attack random targets, in random order. An attacked follower takes damage to their STA equal to the ATK of the attacker minus the DEF of the attackee. When a follower's STA reaches 0, they are removed from the field and your character loses LIFE equal to that follower's SIZE. When your character's LIFE reaches 0, you lose. Special cards effects do what they say, and the key to strategy is utilizing effects and spells that aren't random.

Speaking of hipster indie games, I bought and beat Limbo from Steam yesterday. Can't say I'm pleased though, the whole game felt very underwhelming. When it comes to platformers, there's a fine line between maintaining a well thought out gameplay core and being too artistic. Catherine was ok. The only problems I had were that it was too short, and the game was very linear.

Given the length of the game and the choices you can make, I would've liked to see actual routes/see the story evolve based on the choices you make. In reality though, it's just the same game with several different endings.

Nothing like it. You're a ball rolling over a cylindrical line. Steering is done by rotating around the cylinder, but the more you rotate, the slower you go. The challenge is to dodge all obstacles with minimal rotation.

Proun used to be free, but apparently the game is now 1 dollar. If you pay more (not sure how much nowadays) you get an extra track. The game unfortunately only features four tracks (of which one must be unlocked) plus the extra track for paying a certain amount of money. The idea is interesting, but my experience is that the singleplayer doesn't remain fun for very long. Playing it multiplayer is fun, though. (Don't know how long that remains fun as I barely ever play it with other people, there's no online multiplayer or anything like that.)

Ever wondered what it's like to be a cleaning lady?
Dust Force might be the game for you.

...But seriously, I started playing this today, and it's great. You should definitely check it out if you're into challenging platformers similar to Super Meat Boy, or just really like cleaning stuff.
I have three minor gripes with it though:
1. The controls feel a little too convoluted. Are two different attacks really necessary? The default keyboard setup feels very, very awkward as well. You can change it, but gamepads are a requirement anyway; if you're trying to get anything over a B-rank that is.
2. Although the game is colourful compared to a brown shooter, the palette could use some extra oomph. It can be hard to discern background from foreground at times.
3. The soundtrack is good, but I can't decide if it fits the game or not. It's pretty ambient, which contrasts a lot with the on-screen action. Some might find it jarring.

It's 10% off on Steam for four days from now on, or something. Get it while it's cheap.

Well, after playing about 4 hours, I would say, it's interesting.

It's not very plot heavy or character driven. I'm not sure how much you know of the game, but the characters are essentially you, the 3 other people in your party, and the girl. So far at least. And the only character you see or who has a voice is the girl.

The game starts off like this. You enter your name (4 characters) choose your difficulty (Normal, Hard, Super Hard, Ultra Hard, Hyper Hard) and then proceed to play. You are playing a game within a game. It's some online dungeon crawling game. The visuals are like, 8-bit too, which might surprise you at first. As you proceed through this dungeon, 3 other people join your party. Because you are the first one playing, you control the party, that's how the game works.

So as you are playing this 8-bit online game with these 3 other random people, you hear the voice of a girl, and eventually the game changes to the real one with the proper visuals, and this girl. You are supposed to have entered some other world, where this girl is. This other world follows the same rules of the game you were just playing, so combat, dungeon crawling, etc. This girl is all alone, so you and the 3 people you are playing with decide to help her.

Why I say the game is interesting, is because you and the other characters (aside from the girl) are just 'players'. You have no form, no voice, etc. You are not in the world with the girl. You are playing on your computers or whatever. You guys just communicate with each other via text chat that appears on the screen. So while you're moving through the dungeon the other people in your party will talk about the girl or combat or whatever. The girl in the game cannot see your chat, so you can't communicate with her. She just kind of follows you around, talks to you and herself, as you help her climb this tower.

So the only character that is really a character, is the girl. After 4 hours I still don't know anything about the other 3 characters in my party aside from their handle names and the way they talk. For all I know this is a 40 hour game, and their stories could develop, you could find out you have some common connection, etc I don't know. But at the same time this could be a 12 hour game and I'm already a third the way through.

The gameplay leaves a bit to be desired. To describe it simply, battles are rock paper scissors. There are three types of enemies and your party can be in 3 types. Rock beats scissors beats paper beats rock. You heal this way too. There is obviously more to it than that but I don't feel like going into details. You are also essentially just climbing this tower, so it feels pretty repetitive to me. But the girl is pretty cute, which makes it tolerable. The graphics are rather nice too.

Overall it's fun so far. Better than Senran Kagura at least...

Oh, I realized that Elin mod was just a mask, that's why it was so small.

The original Shojo mod came maybe one and a half year after Fallout 3 was released. I'm guessing we have to wait a little while, even though if they'd just have to port it somehow. I have absolutely no idea how modding works though.

Besides, most of the western Skyrim gamers have some sort of weird irrational hate towards anything Japanese or "weeaboo." Apparently some Japanese mods have been deleted off the Nexus for no reason other than that, even standard stuff like F/SN weaponry and what have you. So mods like that might not even make it to the Nexus, if you were hanging around there waiting for something. Just sayin'.

Today I beat Shadows of the Damned. I really urge anyone to buy it. It's very funny, it has lots of charm, and there's not every day you find a comedy duo that's actually as witty as Garcia and Johnson. The game is very short (I think I beat it in about 10 hours), but it never felt too short, except maybe for the end, and it's very good at showing you new stuff. About every hour you get a weapon upgrade that changes how that weapon works. Not only that, but the game then gives you challenges that require you to use these new abilities. I was also pleasantly suprised by the amount of puzzles included. Since I don't play many "adventure games", and therefore don't get to play many puzzles, one in particular was very irritating, but I soon got the hang of it, and it was a nice break from shooting demons with my Hot Boner.

If you like Suda51 games, you should get it. If you like funny games that don't take themselves too seriously, you should get it. It's only $20 in the US and about £13 on Amazon, so it's not exactly a huge risk.

I'm using the Bretonx117 and Nordx117 custom races. They don't give you dat loli bod, but they mod the head-to-body proportions loli. You're playing first-person or staring at your character's back most of the time in Skyrim, so it works alright.
Besides, the mod combination that guy used in this screenshot http://i.imgur.com/oMmxM.jpg breaks the game.

I'm pretty disappointed with game by the way. It's not bad, but I kinda expected more, what with all the hype. The combat system is complete shit and empathizing with any character is impossible. The exploration is fun though, and there are a lot of cool quests to do.

They must think that the game is in development until release day.

As for me, I'm not really excited. I liked Mass Effect 2 a lot, but it had a lot of problems:

Everything that is wrong with the combat in ME2 is highlighted in Insanity; specifically, the finicky nature of cover. The most frustrating thing is when I try and sprint past a piece of cover and instead suddenly latch on to it and promptly die because my soft, vulnerable body is exposed to the enemies I was trying to run away from. Actually, thinking about it: everything about the cover in this game is terrible. I can't tell you the number of times I've tried to sidle along a piece of cover and instead just randomly stood up and got killed in two seconds.

I don't know why people would choose to play Insanity outside of trying to get the trophy. It's not 'fun difficult', it's 'dumb difficult' where the difficulty is derived from exploiting the gameplay's flaws to fuck over the player. To shoot at an enemy you need to expose yourself, but exposing yourself for longer than a few seconds will leave you dead - so every encounter is a complete slog of peeking out from cover to chip away at a mook's health before returning to cover to recharge your shields because the short time you were in the open put you in the red.

Don't get me started on the fact that some enemies can can severely wound you in the time it takes for you to lean out from cover, meaning you're already on death's door by the time you can start shooting. Uncharted on Crushing has the same problem: the optimal way to fight is to stand behind a tall piece of cover and shoot through the corner of it, rather than actually playing the game the way it's supposed to be played.

Also, I know someone who has playtested Mass Effect 3, and while he says it's better, I had one (though obvious) plot point spoiled for me, and I lost even more interest in the game after that.

You guys, DLC needs to go through the same processes (development - testing - debugging - preparing release - publishing) as the game itself; just like you can't release a buggy game you can't just release buggy DLC, and you also have to do all kinds of stuff to publish it. In order to have DLC available on Day 1 you either need to have made the DLC at the same time as the game itself (the oft-criticized 'would otherwise be in the game itself' DLC) or have a separate team developing the DLC while the main team is developing the main game. DLC two weeks after release is understandable, but there is no justification for day 1 DLC, it would've been just as easy (but less profitable) to get it into the game itself.

A day 1 bugfix patch is acceptable (although still a bad practice - debugging should be done BEFORE the final copy is given to the publisher), day 1 DLC is not.

It doesn't need to be justified.

>it would've been just as easy (but less profitable) to get it into the game itself.
They get extra budget for making things like DLC, because it sells separately from the game. If there was no DLC, it's not like this content would instead be in the game. It likely wouldn't exist at all.

And really, what bloody difference does it make if the content is day 1 or 2 weeks? Time has nothing to do with it. If they made day 1 content, but just decided release it 2 weeks after the game launched, you would never know the difference.

You're spewing some /v/ level logic my friend.

More than two years after I first tried SMT Devil Survivor, I finally finished one playthrough today (was at day 2 when I picked it up again about a week and half ago).

Very fun game, but also darn challenging. A Demon/Persona Compendium a la Persona 3/4 would have been helpful (I heard that Devil Survivor Overclocked had that feature included, but well, no 3DS). It also would have been nice if characters moved a bit faster.

So anyway, I ended up picking the Yuzu path (truth be told, I was hoping for a Haru path, but I guess there wasn't one). That ending--talk about a slap to the face. I knew I should have gone with my head and chosen Naoya's path instead!

Looks like I finished the game just in time for SMT Devil Survivor 2; good timing.

Oh yeah, that was my intention--in fact, I'm up to the 7th day again already (it certainly helped that my demons were strong enough to one-shot most enemies on the second playthrough) and I picked Gin's path this time since it seems to be the pseudo-Haru path as well.

It's just that my video game backlog is obnoxiously long, and I feel less guilty about devoting time to other games when I've sort-of finished Devil Survivor.

Say it ain't so! I even bought the Premium Edition, even though the goodies were kind of lame.

So I tried Nanashi no Game (apparently some people had translated it into English a while ago, but I wasn't aware until recently) and oh man, this game is pretty creepy. It doesn't help that the controls feel way too awkward for running away if something pops out, although so far nothing has.

Nevertheless it does a good job of putting me on edge, and I think I better not try playing this at 2 a.m. anymore.

I finished playing Rhythm Thief last week, there's seems to be some interest in it so I might as well write down my final thoughts:
My main gripe with the game at the time I wrote down my first impression was the difficulty of the rhythm games. They were too easy. I was maybe five-six chapters into the game so I didn't say anything about it in the event that they got harder, and damn, they did. While the games connected to the main story tended to be manageable, the optional games got really brutal towards the end, the games which used gyro-controls especially so.
The gyro games are very forgiving on timing, so they work well on lower difficulties, but they felt unresponsive when you had to do consecutive moves really fast. It might just be me, but it seems almost impossible to get an A-grade on the last (optional) gyro rhythm game. It's particularly annoying as acing all games will unlock a bonus chapter. Maybe I just need more practice...
The other control methods work fine, and there's a lot of variation between the games, from dancing to (fun) cover-based shooting. No really! I also liked how they don't force you to do a tutorial before playing (like Rhythm Heaven) but just let tips scroll on the bottom of the screen. There was also some references to Space Channel 5, which I totally did not expect. It was awesome, which is what the music is too. The game features music from a bunch of different genres, and it all sounds great. The first print of the game even came with a bonus soundtrack CD, which was a nice touch.
Everything else was mostly good. Some people might not like the focus on story though. The game starts of really slow, you're mostly just walking around and talking to people in a faithfully recreated Paris. Later on there's more stuff to do during the story segments, like collecting pieces of a notation, collecting sounds and doing non-story rhythm games. There's also some puzzles, but they're all way too easy. It's a shame, since some the ideas are really cool, and could easily been made into something more fun with a little effort.
I personally enjoyed the story a lot, it stayed ridiculous from beginning to end, in a good way. The characters didn't have much depth to them (not that I expected it either) but they were likeable and it was fun to watch how they interacted with each other. Maria, the female lead, was an exception. She felt really generic and her seiyuu was just plain terrible. It sounded like she hadn't practiced at all and was reading all her lines from a script she had never seen before. I think she's some sort of celebrity in Japan, but who gives a shit. Anyway, the ending left many questions unanswered, hopefully that means Sega's planning a sequel.
It'll take around seven hours getting through the main story, but acing the rhythm games and collecting all the secrets could easily double that. Great game, definitely worth getting. I'd say Rhythm Thief is my second favourite exclusive on 3DS right now, after Super Mario 3D Land. Hopefully the localization will be good...

Armored Core 5 is definatly pretty cool. It's much slower paced then AC4/FA without being stodgy. Story mode missions are now sodding huge things with multiple objectives and rank is now no longer determined solely by how quickly you can complete the mission. There are also 'Order' missions, which are essentially just skirmish/challenge maps. I haven't played multiplayer yet due to server problems, but I'm muchly impressed with what I have played so far.

Ouch, that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Well, I finished "Again", CING's second-last game before they went bankrupt. Hotel Dusk this is not, but I really didn't think it was THAT bad. Sure, I correctly guessed who the culprit was quite early on, but there were still a few surprises in the story.

Only thing that really bugged me was that the controls felt off, which was most notable during a 'sliding block' puzzle (move tables out of the way so you can retrieve someone's desk) and a subsequent jigsaw-puzzle section.

The major gameplay mechanic, in which the main character sees the crime scene in the present on the right screen and a vision of the past on the left, has been criticized as little more than a game of 'spot-the-difference', but I thought it was alright.

Anyway, I'd say Again is not nearly as bad as most game reviewers have made it out to be, but it's nowhere near as good as Trace Memory, much less Hotel Dusk. Finished it in about 7~8 hours; it's fairly short.

I recently got a decent computer, so I've been playing through some PC games I never got to try.
I finished Bioshock today. Overall, I'd say it was great. It let you shoot bees out of your hands, it had an amazing setting, amazing art direction and FPS gameplay that was actually interesting and fun. The story was mostly good, though it really fell apart after Ryan's speech and subsequent death. I actually wish the game would just have ended there. The twist with Fountaine being the mastermind was cool and all, but he wasn't even close to being as good of a villain as Ryan was, he was just some angry doped up muscle head. And his radio chatter became hella boring quickly as well. I mean, he was just going "BUNCO MOTHER GOOSE SPLICE SPLICE ADAM YOU BUSTO KIDDO" over and over again.
I know the endings got a lot of flak before, but I'll say it anyway.
They were complete bullshit.
It felt like they just had to put in some ham-fisted moral choices just because it was the cool thing to do at the time, or whatever. 2K could've actually moved the industry forward by killing off the main character and letting the bad guy win. It would've hammered the whole Anti-Ayn Randism even harder into the players' heads, and created a fucking media hurricane. But they didn't, and it was bad.

It's sort of sad since the other two thirds of the game was so good, but eh, what am I doing complaining about a five year old game's story anyway.
I'm really excited about Bioshock: Infinite now though. It looks so colourful and exciting! It even has a cute girl! I'm thinking of playing Bioshock 2 while I'm waiting, but I don't know, I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about it. What do you /bun/buns think about it?

Even if the story of Bioshock 2 was not as exciting as the first game, I found that the gameplay was much more fun, and the weapon and plasmid selection was much improved from Bioshock 1. Although it's been a while since I played the first game, from what I remember the only things really worth a damn in the later stages of the game were telekinesis and the crossbow. Bioshock 2 kinda addresses some of these imbalances.

Has anyone played the Record of Agarest War games? They seem like they might be kinda fun and I was wondering if they were worth the dosh.

I really liked Bioshock 2, even more than the first. Being a Big Daddy is cool. Wandering around protecting Little Sisters, punching things to death with your drill, dual-weilding plasmids and a weapon. Good fun. Although it sill has the whole moral thing you disliked it does it a bit better than the first game, and the whole final battle/ending sequence was pretty damn awesome in my opinion. It can be a little glitchy, unfortunately. They didn't support it that much.

The chemical thrower was pretty broken as well. If you had more than 100 electrical gel no big daddy could touch you, and getting that is no problem if you hack U-invents.

>>40366
It's not moral choices that bug me, it's poorly implemented moral choices. Bioshock's made you end up as either Mother Teresa or Lucifer. That's no good. As long as Bioshock 2 does it better, I'm cool.

Anyway, I'll pick it up sometime soon then. Not right away though, shooters tend to leave me pretty exhausted.

Any of you /bun/s going to get Skullgirls? It's out now, and I'm on the fence. I'm not big on fighters at all, but the vibrant designs and JoJo's references make me want it. >> No.40496

It's nothing more than a mediocre fighter being overhyped on 4chan and reddit by the devs. Saying it will be "revolutionary" and that it will "revitalize the fighting genre". It obviously did neither of these things. Didn't even bother adding a gimmick or something. Only boasting point it still uses is "we're not as bad as capcom", which is also questionable with their planned DLC and such. It's just another fighter with fanservice instead of a proper roster. It's western and inferior version of Arcana Heart 3, and just like AH3, it's going to have maybe a dozen or two steady players after a month passess, because there's absolutely nothing that can hold a player to it.
Then again, if you're not into fighters, maybe you don't care about that. And it does cost only 15$ IIRC. Tell you what, if you think IaMP was worth 15$, give it a try. Worst case scenario you'll clear arcade mode once or twice, have 2-3 hours of fun and leave it at that.

From what I understand, some top 2D fighter player (or several?) was involved in the game development, so if nothing else the game should be pretty balanced... which only matters if you're a hardcore fighting game player. I was really bummed about the gameplay, or more specifically, the difficulty level. The game let's you perform insane and wacky combos, but you're basically punished for it, since the regular enemies can be taken down way faster by spamming regular attacks and ninpo. The dev team said they'd add new characters and more 3D effects, but hopefully they'll include a hard mode too (some more enemy diversity and stage variety wouldn't hurt either). That's all I want.

Don't say that! VC2 might've had the dumbest story ever, but 3 was excellent, definitely one of my favourite PSP games. I've always felt that turn-based strategy RPGs worked best as portable games anyway. The length of the battles in Valkyria Chronicles makes it perfect for playing on the go.
The only shame here is that VC3 never made it to the west, I feel bad for fans of the series who are unable to read moon.

>Don't say that!

I did say that, and I meant it, because they have pissed it away. Instead of having three quality PS3 titles, we've been reduced to one with two dumbed-down PSP releases, one of which hasn't even been released outside of glorious Nippon. I really can't wrap my head around the decision to move to the PSP, it makes no fucking sense at all.
Now, I recall someone from Sega (I forget who exactly) explaining at some point before VC2 was released that the cost of developing for the PS3 had something to do with the platform shift, but how was/is moving to the PSP any better? It's riddled with piracy, for a start, nevermind the fact they've gone and alienated a sizeable portion of the established fanbase in doing so, so any money they could have saved they just lost right there.
I don't know how well VC1 sold, and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm fairly certain it didn't do all that badly. Sure, it got off to a slow start, but it picked up pace once word-of-mouth got around, and then again after the anime aired (which I thought wasn't much chop, for the record). Besides, given that they had a newly created game engine plus a team experienced in using it following the completion of the first game, I really don't see what would have been so difficult or expensive about banging out the sequel for the PS3. I mean, they pretty well had everything they needed, it can't have been that hard to put together the second game in a similar manner to the first.

If memory serves, Sega also said that lack of interest (or something of the like) was a reason for the change.
What the fuck?
There was plenty of interest, and more than few of those interested parties voiced their displeasure at Sega deciding to jump ship.
They've created two more (dumbed down for the PSP) games in the series, an anime for the first game and an OVA for the third, yet nothing more for the PS3? Fucking bullshit.

You'll have to forgive me if I sound a bit annoyed, but the way VC as a franchise has been handled really shits me.
I also disagree with your point about SRPGs being more portable-orientated, but, eh, to each their own.

I'm playing Mass Effect 3 right now, just to see what the fuss about the ending was, but wow, this shit is badly written. I don't remember 1 and 2 being this bad.
...Or, at least 1 wasn't this bad. Bioware really has gone to the dogs, huh? Dragon Age should've tipped me off.
That the game is buggy as hell does not help either.

Still, the gameplay is decent, and I like the setting and the some of characters. I'll probably play it to the end.

>I hope the western video game industry crashes again soon

I've been thinking the same thing lately. A few too many game companies/publishers (EA being a shining example) nowadays have too much control over the market, and are more interested in making money than making decent games; hence constant shit like over-priced DLC and half-assed, rehashed sequels to stuff the casual (I hate that fucking word) masses continue to lap up & shell out cash for because they don't know any better, and the big-name publishers take advantage of it.
It's fair enough that they want to make money, they are running a business after all, and they have to cover their operating costs and so on, but they've really gone too far with it. Ten or fifteen years ago they wouldn't have gotten away with this shit, because gamers knew what was what (some of them, anyway, others I wouldn't trust to tie their own shoelaces), and people actually cared about the games being created, they weren't just in it for shits & giggles.

I'm all for diversification & appealing to different audiences, and I'm not trying to say video games as a whole should be a private club like it was back in the day, but new gamers & companies alike need to either get with the program or fuck off.

Nearly a month after release, I've finally slowpoked it to the home stretch of Super Robot Wars Z2 Saisei-hen with 5 missions remaining. I enjoyed the game for the most part, though it's definitely no SRW Z1. No squad system with over 100 playable units? Throw us a bone, Banpresto.

I had some minor gripes with the game such as BGM choices. It was disappointing that the ZEUTH cast were still missing Z1 BGMs as well as some Hakai-hen debuts missing BGMs. I'm assuming that was due to UMD space issues. Also, whatever team was in charge of the attack animations for Librasta needs to be fired because they were just awful. You'd think the god damn main character would get better treatment to follow up the amazing animations they gave Gunleon and Virgola Glory in Z1. But that's just a minor setback when they gave us awesome combo attacks like Dancousougaken, Shin Shine Spark(With the proper cast finally, but lacking Getter Emperor), and DYNAMITE EXPLOSION.

The game in general was at least harder than Hakai-hen. I had to give up on a few SR points just because of the difficulty. I wasn't able to transfer my data from Hakai-hen so I'm sure that added on to how hard the beginning was. All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with the game and looking forward to multiple playthroughs.

I'm a bit disappointed by Z2.2, to be honest. Perhaps I was expecting too much. It was an enjoyable experience, but it wasn't as awesome as I thought it would be. Some of the things I had issues with:

>Some of the bgms sounded shoddy. Mazinger's 守護神 and 00's whatever comes to mind, they sounded horrible. Also as you've mentioned, missing bgms.
>The story was a bit lacking. The reals' stories took up too much focus for my liking. The Insalaum bit seemed tacked on at times, alternating between hogging the spotlight and seemingly vanishing from existence. Code Geass being Code Geass and ruining everything, and making everyone retarded (mind you I didn't got to the If route at the end, so maybe it's better there, who knows). SUDDENLY GAIOU OUT OF NOWHERE. Yeah, since we couldn't have saw that coming, right? To their credit, though, some of the twists/surprises were pretty neat, such as Elgan being The Edel and Ayim being alive and trolling the shit out of literally everyone.
>Unit balances. Esther remained useless till the very end. Setsuna also felt a bit weak compared to the others, as he only gets Innovate very late into the game. All of my other real pilots were doing 再攻撃 every single time they attack, even against the final boss, but Setsuna just can't do that without spending retarded PP. Big O was unbelievably strong somehow, being able to dish out as much damage as pilots with 1.x damage bonus. Some of the old ZEUTH units felt weaker.
>I didn't like how they treated the supers. It's like they're doing preferential treatment for the reals. I was sorely disappointed when Getter used Stoner Sunshine for the first time. I was seriously expecting them to, well, use the friggin Stoner Sunshine theme for Stoner Sunshine. I mean, come on, they had the TRANS-AM RAISER music for Raiser Sword! Also, Gurren Lagann. What the hell? Not even Super Galaxy? And Arc is attack only? Although to be fair, from the Getter Emperror scene, I'm now expecting STTGL and Getter Emperror to appear together in Z3, so until Z3 disappoints me again, I'm just going to wait giddily.
>Wrong Tetsujin.

>The game in general was at least harder than Hakai-hen.
This I can't agree with. I pretty much did a full SR point run on my first playthrough (also no save import) without hassle. There was only one SR point that was hard, and that was the one where you had to gain 35000G with the Shuttle of all things. The rest were pretty easy, especially towards the end, where it's generally just defeat all enemies in x turns. With 24 units deployed most of the times I could get the SR points a few turns faster. Basically just stick 連続行動 and ダッシュ on everyone and you're golden. It gets even more ridiculous with Wing Zero's P MAP attack, and generally the number of strong units with MAP. Getting 20000000G for the medal was harder, I think. Also a lot of the bosses are wimps. Cool and awesome-looking wimps, but still wimps.

Beat the final mission today, and yes, Supers definitely did get shafted story-wise. I think it's a bit ridiculous that Code Geass got an entire route split dedicated to fixing its plot and yet they didn't do a thing to fix Shin Mazinger Z's ending at all. You know, that one poster child series for SRW since its creation. The majority of the "Super route" missions seemed pretty rehashed in general since many of the stories were already wrapped up in Hakai-hen. Doesn't help that a majority of the common route missions focused on the Reals. And yeah, I was highly annoyed at the final mission too because boy, grinding through Gaiou's army of 5000 DAMONs to get to him was so fun the first time, right?

As for the difficulty of the game, it just felt like a couple of the mid-game SR points would have been hard to get if none of your pilots had Continuous Action. But yeah, end game was too easy by the end just because of sheer brokenness of some of the units. Having aced Ryouma doing 16k damage to grunts with only Black Getter's Tomahawk, on my first playthrough, was just disgusting. Though I prefer that to something like SRW A Portable's difficulty.

Anyone else excited about Lollipop Chainsaw? After I found out that you can unlock all the costumes but three by just playing the game I decided to get it as quickly as possible. However, I hope it's going to be sold at a lower price than usual ($100), because I really don't want to spend all that money on it. I almost never buy games new nowadays.

Put in my £5 deposit for Lollipop today, and the cute girl behind the counter told me that I will get stuff for free. Hurray for Gaystop?

Also, they had a used Vita for £200 with (probably) no games. I want it. But I shouldn't. I really shouldn't. But I want it. But I have a PSP. And so many games yet to play.
