I just downloaded the BD Raw for Macross F Sayonara no Tsubasa, and watched the first 15 minutes of it. I managed to understand about half of the dialogue and narration, but I'm going to hold out and wait for fansubs. Concert scene at beginning looks great for most part, but I liked Universal Bunny scene from the first movie as this Kindan no Elixir scene uses way too much CGI IMHO.

I don't think I can wait much longer for someone to sub it though, so I may just go ahead and watch the RAW if no subs show up in the next couple of weeks or so.
Also, I'm planning to order the limited edition BD of the movie, and I'm probably going be ordering it from CDJapan, but has anyone heard of and had experience with this web store called Nippon-Yasan? (http://www.nippon-yasan.com/) They claim to insure products AND to declare them as gift and at a lower price so I don't have to worry about getting dinged at customs (Canadian customs, in my case). I don't know how insurance is going to work with a lower declared value though, and if they are even a legit store to begin with.

I wouldn't go with this. You can get in trouble if they check it out. And either way, I never get dinged by customs when importing. I've made 30,000 yen purchases and had no customs to deal with. If you order with something like FedEX though, you will have to pay at the door.

I've downloaded Texhnolyze and watched half of the first episode. I'm a little put off by by its presentation, but I'm gonna try it a little longer to see if either it changes or I can get used to its style.

the first ep is nothing like the rest of the series. I'd even go so far as to recommend skipping ep 1 entirely. It's about as helpful as watching the first ep of Haruhi (broadcast order) to get an accurate sense of what the series is about.

Watched Endless Eight recently for the first time.
Certainly not something I'd watch again, but at the same time it wasn't the soul-shattering, life-destroying event people have made it out to be, either.

On a related note, where is my animated Kyonko, KyoAni? Get on it.

You're missing out on the actual trauma inducing part of it when you're catching up with it. We had to wait, week after week, only to get the same episode. And with new animation and different designs to boot. They had the budget and resources, it wasn't cheap or easy. What the hell?

At least it was good for making you feel extra bad for Yuki in time for the Disappearance movie.

>At least it was good for making you feel extra bad for Yuki in time for the Disappearance movie

During which I felt even sorrier for Yuki after Kyon turned down her alternate reality offer in favour of returning with Haruhi. What the fuck was he thinking? Goddamn.

Though if I didn't know better, I'd say Yuki didn't bother helping to right the whole E8 situation because she liked hanging around with Kyon, even if it was practically the same thing repeating itself fifteen thousand-odd times.
I realize she states several times that her purpose is only to observe, but she did strike me as being oddly passive, considering what was happening.

Er did you think Kyon wouldn't turn down Yuki, and then they'd just live happily ever after the end? There would be no more Haruhi in that case so the ending should be obvious regardless of whether you watched it. And if you really cared you would have seen it already, not complain about spoilers 1 year + after.

I've already watched it. The spoiler isn't Kyon's decision (that was pretty obvious) but the fact that Yuki caused the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. You're left wondering what caused it until near the end of the movie.

I think it was very thoughtless of Kaiji to say what he did to Ichijou, even if he said it with the best of his intentions.

I didn't really like this season as much as the first one, it felt like watching glorified gambling for delusional addicts. Whether they admitted it or not, everyone was a scumbag, stealing was fine as long as it was used for good (to gamble, lol), the bad guys were hard-working Teiai employees, and the pacing was kind of odd. I think the only moments where I actually felt on the edge were towards the end of chinchirorin arc and midway through the last Bog battle.

Still I liked S2 a lot. I feel sorry for Ichijou and wish he'd appear again. Maybe in his own little spin-off? Fukumoto seems to be into that so yeah. He was surprisingly endearing, more than just a pretty face. I dislike Daisuke Namikawa, but I must admit he did a good job voicing the fabulous manager. The last episode was incredibly heart-warming, betrayals aside, and suddenly hearing the GOOD opening song play during such a nice scene brought me to tears.

I love Kaiji.

It took a while (started in the summer), but I finally finished watching Katanagatari. It was very good like everyone said, but my gosh was the conclusion depressing. Togame's death scene was beautiful, but why did that have to happen? 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。 Poor Maniwani folks as well. In retrospect, the body count for the show was crazy high.

The show might as well be a magic/fantasy harem fanservice series without the full harem and without enough fanservice to be really justify watching it(though the majority of the fanservice is the loli's crotch)

Watched some of this. It's pretty good. Basically an R-rated SZS, though unlike Shafts TV-series, this one has consistently good animation. I like how they don't focus on a specific character or anything for each episode, just do some good comedy. It's not like: "Okay, this guy is a cyborg, here's a bunch of cyborg jokes" or "Here's science girl doing a lot of science shit". That often felt like a problem in SZS, it got bogged down in the amount of characters which led to a bunch of really stale jokes.

Well, this is understandable, I don't think ARIA has very much widespread appeal. It's a manga about nothing, after all.

I just watched the first episode of Madoka, and Kyubei's voice is already annoying me. I sort of wish I hadn't known stuff about it before, like the twist in episode 3 (I think), but it was pretty cool. I hope it stays good, and that Homerun gets some cool scenes, which I've heard hinting at.

Ok, so I have been watching Madoka and Milky Holmes (the first season) at the same time, and it's very strange. Milky Holmes is light hearted, hilarious comedy with practically no interconnecting story, dakimakura and JoJo posing. It moves along snappily, and doesn't try that hard at all. That said, I really like it.

Madoka, on the other hand is very slow. I'm only at episode four, but this could all have taken an episode and a half. The music is excellent, and a lot of the bizarre stuff looks cool. The fights are also very good, but I don't really like any of the characters that much. Mami came across as sort of an asshole to Homerun, and Madoka and Sayaka are just boring. Actually, I think Homerun is the only character I like, and, she is more cool. They tried a little too hard to make this cool, and it just becomes too dragged out and pretentious. Also, knowing the spoiler in episode three (damn /a/) really ruined it for me, even though I probably would have seen it coming. I heard that it gets better around episode ten, so I'm holding out for that. One last thing is that I know that Kyuubey is evil, but they haven't really made him threatening enough. Knowing that he is a right bastard probably makes me see him as more evil than you would if you went into it with no knowledge of it whatsoever. And why didn't Homerun kill him at the end of episode three?
>> No.39375
>>39373
Milky Holmes is very well done, and in my opinion, much better than Madoka. Most of the fandom and love for Madoka came from the whole, "Oh my god, it's mahou shoujo, but dark and edgy! This has never been done before!"

It was painfully obvious that Urobuchi hadn't written for television before, the whole show could've been condensed into a six episode OVA, should've been actually. They really should've fleshed out Kyubey's backstory too. I didn't really feel any animousity or sympathy for him throughout the show, and that's basically the defining trait of a really bad villain.

Milky Holmes is great though. It felt like the staff didn't know what kind of show they wanted to make in the first couple of episodes. Mystery? Moe~moe slice-of-life? Comedy? Crazy insane comedy? In the end they decided on the last option, and it was glorious. Season two is shaping up to be even better, so you're definitely in for a real treat!

>>39375
It's the same as the Bakemonogatari-phenomenon. Everybody was claiming that it was "revolutionary" and "deep." But look beyond the Shinbou-bullshit and all you have is an ecchi-harem show with both comedic and supernatural elements, which is, like, exactly the same as 50% of anime being released today. The only thing that separates it from the other garbage is that it's a relatively strong show.

Yeah, for a 12 episode show the pacing was pretty bad. The whole Sayaka ark was really lame, and she was a boring and relatively obnoxious character who was really hard to empathise with.

Fuck, I hate accidentally hitting CTRL+R instead of CTRL+T. There goes ~200 words. Here's a slightly shorter version.

I Finished Amagami SS (season 1) this morning. After finding out how the anime was going to handle the routes, I thought I'd skip some of the arcs, but I'm glad I sat through all of them. Even the girls whom I didn't really care for, I warmed up to them by the end of their respective routes.

Haruka: Them faux-drills and blue eyes. I think her VA did a great job, and the little bits of English topped the voice acting nicely. Such a fun character.

Kaoru: SEX HAIR, and she's such a "bro".

Sae: "教官~" is pretty cute.

Ai: I really like her voice. My ideal kouhai type. Her ED is my favourite ED.

Rihoko: Tea Ceremony club-end. I hear she gets a proper ending in SS+, hooray!

Tsukasa: Image sums it up. Favourite heroine.

Risa: D'aww, 2nd favourite heroine.

Extras: They are all great. Hibiki route/arc, where?

Verdict - I should've watched this sooner.

Sounds like you want War in the Pocket. It's a 6 episode OVA that a decent portion of Gundam fans consider the best thing in the franchise.
If you want something a little longer try 08th MS Team. It's a 12 episode OVA about a unit fighting a guerilla war on the frontlines of some totally-not-Vietnam country.

I'd definitely recommend you watch both, you can't really go wrong with them.

This isn't too bad. The visuals are much better than I expected and I like most of the characters. It's like everyone in the show is a rampant lesbian except for あっかりーん, which I like, but it's never even explained. Are they enrolled in a lesbian only school? Does Yuru Yuri take place on Reverse Earth where everyone is homosexual? Is half of the show's cast actually traps, a fact which was explained off-screen? Why are there so many girls at Comiket? And why does Yui live alone? Isn't she, like, 13? The show gives rise to too many questions and not enough answers.
The comedy is alright, but it's starting to repeat itself even though I'm only five episodes in. If they do another 'meganekko-lewd-fantasy' joke I'm going to lose it, those were only marginally funny the first two times and has descended into rampant fanservice. Fanservice which is by the way, surprisingly prevalent in this show, I'm okay with lolis, but I find myself frequently pausing and looking over my back to make sure no one is around when I watch it...

Finished a weekend marathon of the Penguindrum BDs, it firmly re-established itself as one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. I can't say much more that hasn't already been said about the show, so instead I'll mention that the BDs manage to look even better than the TV rips, which I remembered as looking amazing in the first place. >>41331
As the other anons and I mentioned earlier, surprisingly good production values and cute girls makes it work alright. What irks me the most about Yuru Yuri is the horrible comedic timing that is, sadly, so prevalent in most anime of its kind. I mean, there was plenty of meat on that bone. They only needed to throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato... Baby they'd have a stew going! But no, they just threw everything into the trash. Maybe it's a culture thing. Is Yuru Yuri generally considered funny among the Japanese otaku?
Anyway, I doubt I'd make it much further than episode two if I'd been watching it while it aired, but when you have the whole season available, it becomes easy to just put on a couple of episodes when you're bored or want to wind down a little.

Marathonned Sengoku Basara yesterday as my first full marathon of a TV series (as opposed to an OVA). It was really fun for the first three or four episodes, with great voice acting, really camp script and manly man men, but then I lost interest about halfway through, where Norio Wakamoto provided the most amusement (he is gold in this). Then it sort of picked up near the end, although never reaching previous heights. I was rather disappointed in the fights. I know it's based on a Dynasty Warriors style game series, but there was still little cool about the fights. Still, watching Norio Wakamoto, Kazuya Nakai and that other guy chewing up the scenery was really fun, and in the end I had my £14's worth.

Because I thought Kyoani would be smart enough to realize that cute girls doing jack shit for two hours would eventually bore people to death, and hire a real writer. When Yui is looking for Asuza in the hotel, she gets kidnapped by a gang of chavs in a Mini Cooper instead of the plotline being resolved within the scene. The rest of the band hijacks a double decker bus and gives chase. Except for Mio, who meets David Bowie who is conveniently in dire need of a bassist, and then they play Sufragette City together.
Yui, Mugi and Ritsu chase the chavs into the British Museum. Cue Scooby-doo chase scene. Exactly at the time the Bowie song ends, the chavs get cornered by the band and museum staff.

I don't think Rainbow is as bad as you claim it is, but the pacing seems a bit bad. I don't really feel compelled to keep watching the show but for one character, Sakuragi. Help me out here, /bun/! I started watching Record of Lodoss War because a lot of people said it was great, and no one said otherwise, but after the first episode, I'm extremely unimpressed. Well, no, they adapted Hidamari Sketch, important difference. I agree, though, that there's really nothing to indicate Prism Nana being dark and it's silly to assume that just because it's SHAFT. >I agree, though, that there's really nothing to indicate Prism Nana being dark and it's silly to assume that just because it's SHAFT.

Given that SHAFT's last magical girl show was made to look like a normal, happy show in the trailers, and ended up being grim dark, AND ended up making boatloads of money, it's not that farfetched to think they might be trying to use the same formula again, to similar effect.

Not to say that Nana has to be, or will be grimdark. But I don't think it's wrong to suspect that SHAFT might be trying to recreate the success of their other surprise grimdark magical girl show, by making a new surprise grimdark magical girl show.

Whether they take it in that direction or not, I have no idea.

Except that's FUCKING WRONG. Madoka was jokingly called Chidamari Sketch before it started airing because that's what people expected out of the Urobuchi+Ume combination. Urobuchi's statements about making a work with a hopeful message were laughed at. The early trailers and character profiles were full of depressing lines. Hell, it wasn't even the first dark magical girl show directed by Shinbo. No one with half a brain should have expected it to be anything but a grimdark show.
Then you have Prism Nana, which has nothing like that. You'd think the light-hearted trailer would have convinced the skeptical ones (read as: retards who think they're SHAFT experts because they've seen 3 of their shows), but apparently that's not enough either.

I finished Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyoto Hen. I'm not trying to sound like a purist here, or an insufferable fanboy, but it was terribad. I can understand that it's hard to fit the Kyoto arc into two 45 minute episodes, and that some changes were bound to be made, but... if this was inevitable, why not make the project longer? Why even adapt an arc that was perfectly fine in the TV series? Why not adapt the Jinchuu arc? ;_; The pacing was bad, the fights didn't have enough spotlight, I disliked the new character desings. To be fair, at least the animation in the fights was good (sometimes), as expected of an OVA. Too bad all the fights only amount to maybe five minutes, and I feel like I'm being generous claiming they had that much time. So much for it being from Misao's perspective, by the way, seeing how much screentime she got during the second OVA.

Geez, thanks DEEN. At least they could have used Watsuki's recent redesigns to make it fresh, not that I'm particularly fond of them really, but it would have been something interesting to see. Oh yeah, and no Kamatari, not that I should have expected them to keep half the fights in this arc after seeing how the first OVA went.
