I am incredibly uninterested in this season. Is there almost nothing cool?

Most boring season I've seen in a while. I'll probably check out SAO to see what all the hype is about, but that's about it.

I think I might check out the original season of Yuru Yuri now, maybe. I guess this season will be a nice chance to catch up with some older series in my backlog...
I'm looking forward to the Milky OVA and that wolf kids movie by Madhouse though.

>8 fucking fantasy-type harems.
Sure, a large chunk of them are S2's of previous successful fantasy-type harems, but jesus christ. Everything is either a straight up drama, a fantasy harem, or a nichijou/yuruyuri comedy. I understand the economy and the earthquake and anime as a business hasn't been doing very well, but this season especially looks like every production company playing things safe and sorely lacking in originality. not that I mind the fantasy harems, they are somewhat of a guilty pleasure and I plan to keep up with every fucking one of them, even if it kills me

My body is ready for Signum in HD.

So far I'm only interested in Lagrange S2, Hakuouki S3, and Moyashimon Returns. Maybe Total Eclipse and SAO depending on how bearable the adaptations are.

What a depressingly bad season. Moyashimon should be nice but other than that...

Tastes obviously vary widely, but I really enjoyed Yuru Yuri. Started out thinking it would be a trainwreck, then just kept watching episode after episode... Be aware going in that there is little to no plot. Pretty much the whole show is about the characters and the comedy, both of which I found quite enjoyable.

Just realized that I had only posted the charts...

Definitely Watching
MLA-TE: I hope the level of fanservice in the anime doesn't go beyond the amount present in the manga. Then, it could be pretty nice. In reality, I just want to see the TSFs and Yui
Lagrange 2
Horizon 2
Tari Tari: Music anime are always welcome. Hopefully we get another P.A.Works anime with top notch production quality (and without the drama-- who am I kidding)
Yuru Yuri 2: ゆりゆららららゆるゆり, ゆりゆららら...

Might watch
Uta Koi: Might watch this and re-watch Chihayafuru.
Koichoco: The VN seems to be decent.
Kononakani Hitori Imoutoga Iru!: I really like the character design.
Moyashimon Returns: If I finish the first series in time.
Natsuyuki Rendezvous
Sword Art Online
Binbou Gamiga!: Synopsis sounds interesting.
Kokoro Connect
Arve Rezzle: Now, this genuinely seems interesting. Cautiously optimistic, because of the studio and the staffs.

Seems like an alright season, but as always, the beginning of new seasons excite me.

I never understood why TSF pilots were allowed to keep ridiculous lengths of hair in a cockpit full of machinery that looks designed to entangle on the damn things.

You don't want high fanservice in TE but you watch Horizon?
>> No.41227
For Horizon, I don't really care about the source material. I watch it as I think the setting is pretty cool and I really like some of the character designs (Futayo, nmmm). The fan service is a bonus.
For TE, I'm hoping to get an experience that will not stray too far from the original material: I would read the LN were my Japanese reading skills adequate.

Kingdom: Which already started, rendering any kind of prediction useless. But I'm going by this list of cartoons and nothing is stopping me. Quite the weird project: gruesome historical manga adapted into anime, airing at 7pm. If that makes sense to you, please explain me what's happening.
Utsunomiya worked on the first episode... doing cheapass CG. Sakuga fans rioted.

The show is airing, why would you want a PV.

Rinne no Lagrange S2: The first season had everything a successful mecha show could ever need: a crazy protagonist, good production values and an excellent soundtrack. Unfortunately, it went out of its way to be about anything but robots. The inane fillers hurt the show incredibly, since they didn't only keep Madoka away from her mecha but also gave the spotlight to absolutely dreadful side characters. This wouldn't be that important of an issue if it were just a couple episodes, but when over half the show is absolutely pointless crap you start wondering what the focus was to begin with.
But fear not as there is still hope. The show ended on a high note and now we're facing a brighter future. A future with robots. As long as the more serious tone it's supposed to have doesn't drown the fun the best parts of S1 had, we're in for a vastly superior sequel.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7_zKZMwCq8

Tari Tari: One would expect the Iroha staff to return for what looks like its spiritual successor, but apparently they're too busy with the movie - and the recently announced Zetsuen no Tempest in Ando's case. This means we'll have a director debuting for TV anime, but more importantly... Mari Okada is NOT writing it! As far as I'm concerned, this alone makes it better than Iroha already. Being a genuinely good show, though, will take more than that.
P.A. appears to specialize in shows that look quite pretty despite not having specially good animation, but the PV looks like a bit of a step back in that regard. I'd be glad to be proved wrong by the show.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmTKphUxHi8

Arcana Famiglia: I'd never mock otome fans, but I'd stare in disgust at any Chiaki Kon fan. If such people even exist. In all seriousness, don't hate this show for being gay. Despise it because the most untalented person to ever work in anime is directing it.

No PV yet. Who cares.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita: Everyone's favourite Kishi is back, this time accompanied by Tanaka Romeo's prose. This could have caused an uproar a while ago, but nowadays those are names that arise as much doubt as hype. Kishi has long since stopped being the hero behind SetoHana/Sunred and is now more known for uninspired series like Kamisama Dolls or even the disaster by the name of Angel Beats. And of course, Romeo's crazy works have quite a lot of haters now that there's plenty of them available in English.
We'll see how it turns out, for now I can only say for sure the show is quite good looking. And it has a Nakahara lead. That's important.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwP3A9ARW4E

Chitose get you!: Boring 4koma about a little girl who wants to get in someone's pants being made into yet another 5-minutes-show. Mildly interested about whether Oonuma really isn't involved in a SILVER LINK show or if they don't bother listing him anymore.

No PV because it would be longer than one episode.

Muvluv Alternative Total Eclipse: Oh boy. I, as many Muvluv fans, want to like this show. Actively. But the show is spending as much energy, if not more, on being unlikable. It takes a lot to ignore the terrible staff working on this. Not so much the fact that the mecha will be CGi, which is sadly becoming a given in anime. But after seeing the trailer, how is one supposed to be optimistic? Panning abuse, mouthflapping, hideous character designs, terrible palette... CGi stops being an issue when you have 2D animation that manages to look worse.
Even leaving the visuals aside I'm having trouble finding any reason to get excited about it. As a Muvluv fan I'm not going to be the one complaining about TE being a TSF plastic kit ad, but relying so much on that certainly won't help newcomers. The fact that the story is unfinished, though, worries me. Especially knowing the staff doesn't know what to do with the ending yet. Having Kouki actively working on the show reassures me ever so slightly, but he can't magically fix everything. He wants to make a good, standalone anime to be able to fund a Muvluv trilogy adaptation. Will he manage it? Probably not.
Then again, with such stellar voice cast you can just listen to the audio and pretend it's a Drama CD.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLfDKNcouBA

Uta Koi: Josei by the Nodame S1 team? Sold.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-wbpmDjDpY

Yuru Yuri♪♪: S1 was a rather well produced show that used the same jokes over and over. It would be dumb to expect anything but that from its sequel.
By the way, the girls trying to figure out how to pronounce the show's title in the PV was funnier than most jokes in the series.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47jCEQ7cJUo

Binbougami Ga!: Uninteresting manga being adapted by average staff. Check it if you're a diehard Gintama fan, ignore otherwise. I'm not willing to read more than one chapter to find out if it gets better.

PV "comming soon" http://www.binbogamiga.net/movie/

Moyashimon Returns: Dude it's fucking Moyashimon what am I even supposed to say. If you haven't watched the first season you're quite bad at this anime thing.

File: N2ced.jpg -(101.1 KB, 327x480) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Natsuyuki Rendezvous: A truly noitaminA-esque but ultimately uninteresting show. Unless the characters are more interesting than they look, this will just be an average josei with nice visuals. Sakuga fans should be on the lookout, Junichiro Taniguchi (Ayashi, Madoka, Azazel-san) will be the Chief AD.
In any case, I'd rather have an ordinary anime that stays true to what noitaminA is supposed to be than stuff like BRS and GC.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4FqXupHa58

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate: AIC Build's third show. While I can't speak for OreImo, I can tell you most of Haganai's issues could be blamed on the adaptation. What was supposed to be a fast paced comedy with plenty of energy felt lifeless and uninspired because of the poor direction and bad comedic timing. Don't trust them to turn some random moege into a decent show.
The PV looks pretty at least. Don't expect good animation but it should be aesthetically pleasing.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRNvRDzpJmk

NakaImo: More LN trash directed by the man behind Nogizaka Haruka/KissxSis. Why should I make this sound interesting when it's not?

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKW1zcGLA5I

Joshiraku: More Kumeta goodness for everyone. The banter is not as fun this time around because the characters are surprisingly normal, but you can clearly feel his style either way - which is sort of a double edged sword, since many can't stand his silly ramblings about anything and everything.
Can his stuff work without the involvement of SHAFT? I have my doubts. Not much as far as visuals go, since Joshiraku wasn't drawn by Kumeta but Toradora's Yasu; one of the reasons the usual SHAFT visual trickery worked so well on SZS was his simple designs, so it might have felt off in Joshiraku. I'll certainly miss Shinbo's directing, but we're not getting a bad replacement. Genshiken itself is more than enough to prove Tsutomu Mizushima can do a fairly good job at comedy. Ika Musume took quite a hit when he left after S1. Hell, sometimes you even get him accidentally turning shows like Another and Blood-C into comedy! He's good at making people laugh!

...but he's not Shinbo.

Campione: Why is Nanoha's director working on this? Has he left Seven Arcs? While he now and then works for other studios, it's bizarre he'd do it this season instead of working on the Dog Days sequel which he obviously was bound to direct.

Oh yeah, :Complaint about LNs:

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cv2hOw9jkQ

Dog Days': The first season could have been good if it focused on the right things instead of being a directionless mess. How will it fare under new hands? Probably worse, seeing how the premise of S2 is "NOW WITH MORE GIRLS!". The fights were rather interesting and even good looking, but it all drowned in uninteresting scenes with boring characters. Here's a tip: if you're going to make the cute girls a main point of your show, don't make it so that they can be described with one word.
That said, all it needs is more Yoshinari cuts and Nana songs than the first season did to win me over. Turning something like Dog Days into an enjoyable experience should be quite easy, shouldn't it? Right? Okay.

Sword Art Online: Am I supposed to convince people who were subjected to Accel World that this is a potentially fun show? Because that seems far beyond my ability. What if I say it's what .hack always wanted to be? It even has Kajiura there, so the example couldn't work any better. While cliched as hell, it simply deals with those topics we've seen in many other shows better. Unfortunately, the characters are quite weak but let's not ask that much of a fantasy LN.
And you, animation nerds, just enjoy the treat. Part of the IM@S crew is teaming up with equally talented people for a really promising staff. I'm sure names like Atsushi Saito, Shingo Adachi, Ryuuta Yanagi and Tetsuya Kawakami are enough to get you excited about this show.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSstf7_I20k

Kokoro Connect: Every body swapping show needs an excellent voice cast so you get fantastic seiyuu all the time. SILVER LINK and highschool crap can stay away from anime for all I care, though. I seem to recall being weirded out by the first couple characters and even sensing some hints of a plot, but I wouldn't expect too much. Or anything at all.
Also, Toshifumi Akai better be working on stuff other than the character designs or I'll be pissed.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfmunTxdQ4Y

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II: Kyoukaisen is fundamentally wrong. Not because it's the worst light novel to become an anime but because it's the last one that should have been adapted. Despite taking about 5 episodes of pure introduction the first season didn't quite make sense out of the setting, which is an absolute and intricate mess. Forcing the viewers to read up on the series if they want to have a minimal grasp of the story is a terrible idea that only worked relying on an existing fanbase. And by worked I mean it made money. It's still a bad show.
Just like the first season, this will lure in naive viewers with delicious candy. The already ridiculous voice cast goes even further by adding names like Yuko Goto and Toyoguchi. Music and animation will once again be well above average. Good enough to justify the show's existence? Fuck no.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0laxsGWaWqQ

Oda Nobuna no Yabou: We've gotten to the point where we get two genderbent Sengoku shows airing at the same time. I give up.

PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXQ9c74hxDU

More Hakuoki: This one is a prequel but I'm sure they were gay back then too.

Muvluv Alternative Total Eclipse: The updated trailer has about one minute of new footage, which looks rather nice compared to the rest of the trailer. Completely lacking in that thing called "animation", though. Now that's it's been confirmed that Kuribayashi is doing the ED, it's quite likely that the OP will go to GRANRODEO - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQDaJyvnZ2M

Uta Koi: Now with an actually animated PV. Not sure if I dig that thick outlining, but I never expected this show to look any good so it's a minor issue - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyqTv2y6PVA

Binbougami Ga!: To the surprise of no one, Sunrise shows look good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GUa7o22U8w

Joshiraku: New CM with actual footage, in which we can appreciate that a) They did a great job with Yasu's original designs b) Pretty much every scene will feature girls sitting around in one room - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMmKWTZeho4

Sword Art Online: Not that there was any need for it, but the new trailer looks even better. Sakuga show in the making - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYWpX81TjRc

Kokoro Connect: Not a trailer per se, but the first half of ep.1 was streamed. It was more than enough to prove no one but KyoAni should work with Horiguchi's designs, because we've gotten too used to their quality and anything else will look like a hilarious downgrade. I'm not even a Horiguchi fan but the oversimplification of her designs was pretty painful to watch.

A few more new PVs out there, but they don't really add much so I'll allow myself to be lazy.

What SAO gets right and many instances of .hack didn't is having a fair share of action. You'd think that would be the obvious focus of a series with an MMO setting but for some reason that's not the case.

Nothing bad about enjoying terrible stuff as long as you're aware of its flaws. Unfortunately, Kyoukaisen's fetish parade doesn't really appeal to me (due to the character designs, mostly) so I get to be especially harsh with an easy target.

Those chicks aren't there because of fanservice. They're there to fill in for some awful original content. I get it that they want to somehow emulate the Extra -> Unlimited mood whiplash, but 10 minutes of happy school life followed by an awful ripoff of Marimo's Atonement is not the way to do it. Especially considering the episode started with Moon Wars. It wasn't just painfully uninteresting, but they also managed to pull stuff that would make any Muvluv fan cringe. Flying TSF in front of Laser Class? Really?
Won't even mention the abysmal visuals because they come as no surprise.

Jintai was rather good at least. No idea why they started with the fourth novel but it worked well. Only real complain I could go with was the abuse of narration, but fun text voiced by Nakahara is a not an issue as I'm concerned.

I was more meaning the way they are designed. It's fine that they exist, but they were obviously designed the way they were aesthetically for fanservice purposes. I mean, look at Extra. The girls aren't exactly all endowed with bombshell bodies.

But anyway, yea. I don't think TE is that great. I would much rather they do Muv-Luv. They could have like, 2 26 episodes season. The first season is Extra for the first 12 episodes, then it genre shifts into Unlimited for the last 12. I'm sure it would be more successful than TE.

After rewatching Total Eclipse with CR encode this time, my opinion of it has improved a bit. It still looks low-budget quadrupling the pixel counts, but there are some details that I missed with the live stream. Too bad the OP sucks regardless of the sound quality.

The first episode of TariTari was harmless, albeit uninteresting. To get the mandatory Iroha comparison out of the way: character interactions were nowhere as fun, but the show might fare better if it has something else going for it. Being half as long it only needs a tiny bit of plot to be less tedious than Iroha became at the end.

And then there's Yuru Yuri, which keeps recycling jokes it deems more fun than they are. Worst offender being the 10 minutes long boring Akari intro. At least the show still has sweet animation.

Why does it need to prove anything? You asked "WTF HAPPENED?": a vague question, probably about the change in the character design. It shouldn't take much to figure out what I had meant by "half a decade passed". I have neither watched the series, nor have I looked at the staff list, nor have I dug around for statements from the staff regarding the character design, but I can hazard a guess that the reason for the change is probably the combination of, or one of the following. The overall trend in anime character design changing, the production company hoping that a new style might appeal to more people, and/or the animation staff wanting to take another artistic direction.

>They are objectively worse.
Your opinion is not the objective standard in anime character design.

Judging purely based on the image posted, the character designs that appeal to me in top to bottom order are current, both, previous, previous, current designs.

Well, Binbougami Ep. 3 kinda sucked. The appeal of the show so far(to me at least) is that Sakura is a bitch, she knows it, plays up to it, and has it out with Momiji every five minutes because of it. All that business with what'shisface + family and saving that kid moved too far into shitty generic drama, try-to-make-Sakura-look-a-good-person territory for my liking, and I really hope it doesn't continue.
Kind of a shame Sakura didn't stick to her guns when Momiji pressed her about the kid. Just once it'd be nice to see someone not give in & backpedal on an issue simply because some asshole threw their weight around.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like Yuru-Yuri S2 is noticeably a lot worse than S1?

I think it's partly due to them trying to give the worst girls so much screen time. The first half of ep4 was almost unbearable, but the second half was pretty enjoyable and the ending scene was good. The girls in the first half (still can't remember their names) just have such bland personalities and roles.

Aside from the 4 MC's, the only other girls I want to see is Mari and Mute-chan.

Mid-season rant

Rinne no Lagrange 2: Once I got over the fact that this show just won't have any meaningful amount of mecha, the second season became rather enjoyable. Sure, the production values have plummeted. However, the show is still rather good looking because of the wonderful palette and gorgeous backgrounds. I don't even approve of the direction the plot is heading to, but seeing the show go somewhere is reason enough for me to overlook that. As long as it stays within its boundary of silliness I can forgive the clumsy attempts to turn this into a more serious story. Marudoka is too good of a protag to waste on a show that couldn't get its own mood right, come on.

Tari Tari: Just stop, PA. Everything about this show is mediocre. It's their worst looking show since AB. It's their most uninspired show since AB. Hell, the only bit of praise I can give it is not being AB. It has room for improvement, the show would be much better just by dropping Wakana's bland drama and giving the spotlight to more interesting characters like the crazy mexican band. But that won't happen. At this point I'm just praying the other main characters don't have equally terrible stories attached to them because the show's shaping up to be a real chore to watch.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita: I really dig the dark humour. Despite the poor animation, visuals are great and contribute to the disparity between the cute appearance and the sinister, post-apocalyptic future. Consistency is the only real complaint I have, and even that ceases to be important when the show's simply fluctuating between "great" and "pretty good". There's some minor stuff like the abuse of monologues, but that's a non-issue considering how well written those are. Plus it's Nakahara voicing them. Can't go wrong with her.
This show's just really good and there's no reason to pass on it.

Muvluv Alternative Total Eclipse: I could rant for hours about this but no one other than Muvluv fans would care and they're already aware of how much this sucks.

Yuru Yuri ♪♪: It doesn't come as a surprise that a show that recycled jokes like crazy wouldn't change much for the second season, I guess. It's had its moments, especially whenever one of the few dynamic characters like Yui or Sakurako were on screen. Random splurts of sakuga and yuri are still things I can get behind. Shitty comedic timing, bad/lacking punchlines and slow pacing aren't.
I'd be more harsh but ep.6 was honestly enjoyable. Still mad that Akari's pedo sister voiced by Horie is never going to appear though.

Binbougami ga: This show's as good at slapstick comedy as it sucks doing anything else. Sunrise seem to be aware of it so they're trying to get all the stupid drama out of the way in the least painful way possible. I hope they don't go overboard with Ichiko's character development, because half of the fun comes from the protagonist being a cunt just because. The other half is the great chemistry she has with Momiji, which could be ruined by Ichiko becoming a decent human being as well. So yeah, don't do it.
Expected a mediocre show and got a bizarre Looney Tunes cartoon. Expected another shitty typecasted KanaHana voice and got one of her best roles ever. Really pleased.

Moyashimon Returns: Yes, the designs are worse. Yes, the opening is a blasphemy. Yes, this show works better on a more episodic structure. But it's fucking Moyashimon. The festival episode convinced me that this can be as good as the first season. If worse comes to worst, it'll just be a nice anime with cute bacteria.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate: Little did I expect that this would turn out to be a decent show. I was wrong about everything - not only it's a lively comedy but also has impressive production values, well above average even animation-wise. I've always felt that the proper way to tackle highschool setting was to write an over the top story. Mental characters, absurd election hijinks and frantic pacing make a good combination. If the panty-stealing bullying is anything to go by the show's going to take a nosedive whenever character drama kicks in, but so far so good.

Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru: While it started off just bland, it's gradually been getting worse to the point of becoming amazing. I can't believe this show is a real thing. You're doing yourself a disservice by not watching this with friends.

Joshiraku: Kumeta's usually hard to approach and the extremely Japanese setting only makes it worse. I like puns, pointless talking and cute girls so I'm extremely biased toward this. It even has a momoclo ending. It's me, I'm this show's target audience.
>> No.42189
File: 1WjpX.jpg -(592.8 KB, 869x1103) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Hagure Yuusha no Estetica: The protag is amusing for 5 minutes until he isn't anymore. Not dumb enough to be worthwile.

Dakara boku wa, H ga Dekinai: If you can stomach terrible shows this isn't a bad pick. I tend to find shamelessly horrible shows refreshing and this is no exception.

Campione: Fuck me.

Dog Days': Slow start, but the show's back on track. It might deviate a bit from the S1 formula because the new characters allow a less Cinque-centric approach. Which, based on ep.5, is a great thing. The fights are still great looking and fun whenever they don't resort to beam spam. The characters are, albeit shallow and archetypical, cute and likable. Still one of the rare instances of average shows I enjoy.
Oh yeah, Yoshinari's cut in the second episode is pretty much the best looking scene in TV anime. Not sure why there's some sort of tentacle rape thing going on, though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaaYNAtubRU

Sword Art Online: I think everyone has already noticed its painful lack of cohesion. The author definitely has, which is why he's been filling the gaps with extra stories about Aincrad. In spite of his effort, though, SAO is still a mess of random timeskips that fuck over Kirito's character development and make it hard to care about him. As if the cheesy MMO story wasn't enough. That said, the anime's better than the novels in every possible regard. The Kirino-Asuna relationship feels more natural than in the original (kind of important, considering it's the main point of this series), the action is more engaging due to the amazing visuals and even the storytelling is slightly better thanks to the chronological order.
SAO has blatant issues of all kind, from out of place harem mechanics to absurd pacing. And yet I find it alright. It might be my overexposure to much worse fantasy LNs, but if it makes me enjoy this thing it's not all that bad.

Kokoro Connect: I can't recommend this to people other than crazy shippers and cheap drama fans, sadly. Every female has her mandatory mental issue, ranging from attempted rape PTSD to paranoia, which the show "solves" in 5 minutes because it doesn't know what to do with them. It could have worked out if the show was more ambitious and tackled those themes for real, but instead we have the protagonist curing them through sheer MC cock. The love triangle isn't especially interesting either. The show looks bad. Don't bother.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon 2: The first episode made me believe it would be non-stop stupid action but we're back to boring explanations about stuff that won't make much sense either way. I wish they just didn't bother. The only thing that I feel has changed is the nature of the magic powers, which feels... dumber? It's not like S1 was very serious in that regard, but they sure weren't this silly. I guess it's fine if you like chuu2 stuff, it just throws me off a bit.

Oda Nobuna no Yabou: Excellent production values wasted on a dull series that can't even get its mood right. There was certain potential in using the clash between genderbent Sengoku and an actually serious setting, but the atmosphere just clumsily switches from "serious" to "pants-on-head retarded" in a jarring way. If you just want cute girls it might do the job because the character designs are great, but don't expect anything resembling a compelling story.

And that's it. Everything else I'm too lazy to follow (Natsuyuki Rendezvous) or doesn't even deserve a mention (Chitose get you).

Jesus Christ, this is the worst post expressing a legitimate argument I've seen in a long while.

The guy's a complete idiot, but he's right about some stuff. Unlike you, I might add.

Keion's animation is absolutely amazing, that's a fact. Since you probably won't take the word of random sakuga fans on the internet, I'll just remind you that Toshiyuki Inoue called it the pinnacle of TV anime, statement only more recent KyoAni shows managed to prove wrong. The second season's consistently great animation is something only they can manage. Hate the studio all you want, but they're the most talented people around.
I don't find it in me to defend Horiguchi's designs because I honestly don't like her artstyle much, but that doesn't make them any bad. Some people have been shamelessly ripping her off (hi Toshifumi Akai, stop it) but no one managed to pull it right. We even have an ongoing show with Horiguchi-esque designs and I'm pretty sure it doesn't take much of a brain to realize they're a poor man's version of her style.
And no, you fucking idiot, keion isn't an otaku hit. It prints money because it managed to leak into a more mainstream market, especially within young girls. I won't bother bringing up its DVD sales because you have no idea about the industry, but you're kind of WRONG.

There isn't a single decent anime site that would even mention those shows, but then again I have a hard time thinking of a worthwile site that isn't anipages. DVDs sales directly correlate to the demographic, you idiot. A high DVD:BD ratio means that either fujoshi or non-otaku are buying the show. Guess which one is k-on's case? At the moment you even have the k-on movie RE DVD selling more than the LE, which means that there's more normal people buying it than obsessive otaku. Data analysis isn't a myth, you see. God damn, the last episode of Binbougami was brilliant! There was an episode or two around the middle that wasn't quite as good as I would have liked, but this was definitely the cutest, and one of the funniest episodes, just because of that one gag.

So far, Ranmaru is definitely my favourite character. She doesn't just swear a little/say "boku" instead of "atashi"/have small breasts,or any of that shit. She actually has a personality, charisma, is fucking hot as all hell, is an actual man-girl (instead of just half-heartedly tomboyish,) and she is amazing to listen to. I don't know how Horizon manages to do drama so well and comedy so poorly. Despite the obvious attempts at gags, I don't know that the series has ever made me laugh. And so Binbougami is finished. It's a shame when you don't want to see something end, yet you can barely contain yourself in anticipation of what's to come. This was like that. I can only remember being this excited for a new episode when watching shows I love, like Penguindrum, Apollon, Tatami Galaxy.

Movie critic extraordinaire Mark Kermode says that the comedy threshold for movies is six laughs. That's within about 90 minutes. With this show, I feel like less than six laughs during 20 minutes is pretty sub-par. I don't think I have laughed this much whilst watching a comedy show. I quickly fell in love with the three main characters, excellently brought to life by HanaKana, Tomato and (that girl whose name I don't know). Especially Ranmaru. I can feel my beard (and penis) growing every time she opens her mouth, and she is simply put brilliant. Sure, Momiji and Ichiko are great fun, and have had many hilarious moments, but Ranmaru takes the cake. Her entire being is pure manliness, and she is written and performed so well she even managed to tug on the old, rusty heartstrings. How is this the same voice actress that gave us "AIJOU YUUJOU"?

Sure, it wasn't all that production-wise. Not bad, in some parts good, but nothing spectacular. But when you add everything together, and then give me theme music I listen over and over again, you have a package that is not only solid, but pretty darned excellent!

Go download it now! You won't regret it!

the helmets that came with the new game had a recoloring and the LED panel placed on the other side of the head, hence the company was able to sell it off as an entirely new product no relation to the one that trapped 10,000 people using a completely different technology which is 100% safe this time.

also, the 1-year delay between the two MMO's being released, as the media sensationalism around a group of people comatose in a hospital can only keep the masses entertained for so long before they forget about it and look for the next hyped thing.

Not that I'm trying to defend SAO's shitty writing, but you should at least be able to tell what parts are the shitty ones; it's not hard to notice.

I don't think you'd be able to rebrand the technology and release it immediately after the SAO incident, or for at least several years.
And even if you generously accept the fact that it is back available, why the fuck would his distraught sister of all people so gladly dive in, after everything her family's been through? Common fucking sense would keep you the hell away from immersive MMOs, surely?
>> No.43335
NervGear has been out since before SAO's release (and has therefore likely been used by other games before it), SAO was only the first game to fully utilize its features, so likely it's been proven harmless fun until SAO turned things to shit. Furthermore, AmuSphere was released by a different company that released NervGear (though those responsible for the disaster work for AmuSphere's company, but the public doesn't know that). Combine it with the media hype dying down and realistically you would get a public opinion similar to that towards nuclear reactors post-Chernobyl; many people still find it wrong due to what happened before, but realistically speaking it was a one-time incident and nothing of that scale will happen ever again, so people are somewhat willing to accept it.

(It must be noted that the nuclear power scare is much worse than is realistically justified, showing how much influence the media has on public opinion. If the media showed AmuSphere in a positive enough light, it wouldn't be unreasonable for public opinion to become more positive.)

>I think his complaint is legit, I mean, look at Hindenburg. It basically killed all airships forever.
It killed airships as a method of passenger transport forever. Even post-Hindenburg they remained (and to this day remain) used for other things such as advertising and research.

(By the way, Hindenburg shows how influential media is on public opinion again - hardly anybody batted an eyelid at R101's demise (48 fatalities), being reported as just another aircraft accident, while Hindenburg (36 fatalities) completely changed public opinion because the entire crash was caught on film. Normal airplanes also had accidents pretty often around the time (though with less victims as they held less passengers), but airplanes survived and are now the most popular form of passenger air transport.)

>Did she really go out and buy one of these full immersion helmet MMOs while her beloved onii-chan brother is trapped in a coma still for playing one?

>And even if you generously accept the fact that it is back available, why the fuck would his distraught sister of all people so gladly dive in, after everything her family's been through?

Would you take an airplane a year after your beloved onii-chan brother died in an airplane accident? To us the whole NervGear thing is a completely unique thing to SAO, but if in that society it's become normal enough (and realistically speaking NervGear didn't just pop up out of nowhere but is the evolution of many immersion technologies that have come before) only serious trauma would stop you from doing something like that. Some people refuse to take airplanes a year after a loved one died in an airplane accident, but most get over it.

>Common fucking sense would keep you the hell away from immersive MMOs, surely?
If by 'common fucking sense' you mean 'unrealistic bias' (which is indeed common enough, see popular opinion on nuclear power), then yes. AmuSphere has nothing to do with NervGear except for using a similar technology (likely only one of many products doing so), and is guaranteed safe (by the extra safety measures no doubt set up after the SAO incident).

The only truly unrealistic parts regarding NervGear/AmuSphere are

1. The fact that the NervGear managed to be sold commercially in mainstream outlets despite its dangerous features (you'd get at least a warning label on that, but realistically shops would probably refuse to carry it).
2. The fact that those responsible for what happened with NervGear (who did so out of malice, it was not accidental) managed to get away with it, create another product with similar flaws and manage to easily release it to commercial success. Certainly at least it would've resulted in everybody involved getting fired?
3. The NervGear is never recalled despite being a death trap. Two months after Kirito woke up he somehow still has the NervGear in his home.

Also, it's retarded how Kirito has no qualms using his NervGear (which has trapped him into coma before) to access ALfheim even though he had good hints that the same people may have been involved with it (as opposed to just buying a safe AmuSphere instead).
>> No.43342
>Would you take an airplane a year after your beloved onii-chan brother died in an airplane accident?

I'd have serious reservations about taking a purely recreational flight while my brother lay dying in the hospital still, yes. This thing was a fucking GAMES CONSOLE that is explicitly showed to have fucked her up mentally, I don't even think your comparison is valid; I'd compare it more to an older sibling overdosing on some legal high and being sent into a two year coma. You don't sit there at his bedside worried out of your head for 24 months then rush out to score some herion once he's woken up.

>Also, it's retarded how Kirito has no qualms using his NervGear (which has trapped him into coma before) to access ALfheim even though he had good hints that the same people may have been involved with it (as opposed to just buying a safe AmuSphere instead).

Yeah, this is dumb too, but at least her has some severe motivation to go back in there. His sister has no business using this technology for such a frivolous reason, and it's literally contradictory to her character (no matter how basic and simple) to go out and play one of these MMOs.

>>dual wield doesn't exist in this MMO, as shown by the skill being listed as as an error

His skill showing up as an error has nothing to do with whether or not dual wielding exists in the game.

To compare it with how real games work, generally skills (as well as items, plus some other things) have identifiers. These can be and are often numbers (item.id = 203) but they may also be or contain text (item.id = "CS001"). When saving the game data, it makes no sense to save all properties of an item (the fact that it's a weapon, what kind of weapon it is, how much damage it deals) as those properties are shared between the same types of item (one Golden Longsword is the exact same as another Golden Longsword, generally). Instead, just the identifiers are saved: player.inventory = list { "WOS043", "UPH002" }. (In games where items can have special properties, generally only the exceptions are saved and the rest is derived from the identifier.) For skills this is even more so the case, as games that have any variation whatsoever between the same types of skill are very rare.

What happened is that Kirito's Sword Art Online save was somehow imported into ALfheim Online. Let's say Kirito's save looks like this:
>Strength - 45345
>Defense - 45436
>Speed - 543646
>One-Handed Weapons - Level 43256243643
>Two-Handed Weapons - Level 342534264
>Dual-wielding - Level 344758435
>Retarded Powerful Sword of Flames
>Extreme Hyperbolic Chuuni Name Sword
>Soul Gem { content.type = CTYPE.HELPER; content.helper = "yui"; }
>Gold Coin { quantity = 5; }

The game would parse all of the data it can read (importing his status and any skills and items shared between the games with the same ID) while ignoring all of the unrecognized skills and displaying them as "????????".

It's entirely possible that dual wielding does not require a skill in ALfheim (requiring physical skill rather than an in-game skill and just being hard to do, as >>43615 implies), and Kirito is just able to do it due to his dual-wielding experience from SAO. Perhaps it exists in the game as a different skill and he just unlocked it again.

(The real issue with the convenient save data is that A) It was transferred over in the first place (how the hell do you get the save data mixed up?), and B) The fact that Kirito still had to create a character while he evidently already had a character file.)

Regarding the equipped item theft, a variety of explanations is possible. Maybe ALfheim uses a system where any physical object in sight can be manipulated regardless of owner, or perhaps Kirito has a high enough pickpocketing skill to pull it off, or perhaps they were temporarily sharing inventory due to being in a party. There are plenty of possible explanations for this.

Or, if you want a meta-explanation, it's a fucking shounen-style action series. Did you really expect anything else than the protagonist breaking the rules of his reality by his sheer protagonistness?

It's gone that way long ago, though back then I never heard it in anime communities and have only heard it used to describe VNs. 'Chuuni' is often used to describe a story with shounen-like action such as Fate/stay night or in this case SAO.
>> No.43980
Fate is chuuni as fuck though, it's almost the very definition of the word.
>> No.43981
Well in this case it was used to refer to a scene that was more or less just an action scene. I'm not a chuuni expert but I don't see how it was chuuni. A little over the top, yeah, but I don't think that alone makes for chuuni. Could be wrong.
>> No.43986

I've never heard it used like that until Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai came out.

[x] 'Nobody could ever do that' kind of situation
[x] Protagonist is determined to fight for his friends (in this case his girlfriend)
[x] Protagonist is initially defeated
[x] Protagonist doesn't give up no matter what
[x] Protagonist gets support from his friends during the action
[x] Protagonist manages to win due to doing something impossible or suddenly gaining a new ability (double bonus - he suddenly used a new dual-wielding skill in a game without a dual wield system)

You even had a close-up of Leafa's concerned face to complete the 'only destined hero that can do impossible things' image.

It's definitely seen a lot more use since the anime came out, but I can find examples of its use as far back as 2009 in the /jp/ archive.

But so does, for example, OniAi, yet you don't see people complaining repeatedly about that show. There's something about a show's popularity that makes people feel the need to assert that the show is bad.

>I'm more surprised that he actually stuck with the show until the end.

It's because of Yui. She's an absolutely amazing character.
If I wasn't spoiled on her rejoining the cast for ALO, I would've dropped the show after watching the appropriate episode of the first season and never looked back.
>> No.44070
But why?
Her intro arc was terrible, and she doesn't really do anything.
>> No.44071
OniAi was always going to be a total piece of shit, by a no name studio with zero budget. People had zero expectations and it met them.
SAO was hyped the fuck up because A-1, huge LN sales and subsequent fanbase, and having a pretty decent budget. People's expectations were way higher for this show, of course more people are complaining.
Also SAO still thinks it's actually good unironically, so do a lot of the fans. It's easy trolling.

In case you haven't noticed, The terrible writing surrounding a character doesn't make that character itself any less amazing or cute. Why do any of those have anything to do with how much I would like the character itself?

Besides, she's the centerpiece. Everything else is simply tacked on around her. Even the writers know who the best character is in the series.
You can kindly go fuck yourself with a cactus. gently and slowly.
>> No.44137
What? She didn't even originally exist in the SAO arc. The author retconned her in later once he decided that he would add more shit to the story.
