It's funny. Back when I first read JoJo's, all the people I knew absolutely hated Vento Aureo and Stone Ocean, but I rather liked them. It was DUWANG I didn't like at first, until I finally saw the charm, not a minute too late. Stardust Crusaders is actually one of my least favourite parts, along with Phantom Blood. I don't think this looks so good on Phantom Blood, but PB had a very different artsyle compared to later arcs, so I guess it's a matter of choosing a design that won't look so different from the rest.

It's hard to say how much of an appeal an anime like this has. On one hand it's based off a long-running series with a large fan base, but on the other, these fans aren't your regular anime-watchers. Adapting Phantom Blood might just be a way of checking the appeal of a longer JoJo's anime. The first part is also the shortest, combine that with hiring a new, cheap studio, and they won't lose that much money in case it bombs. It makes perfect sense, really.

They would be fools not to include Danny. Seeing him burned, in glorious full-color animation, hearing his yelps and howls as he's roasted alive, with the sad violin music playing in the background, and the sound of Jonathan's sobs and tears, has the potential to be even more devastating than it was in the manga.

That was one of the few times I can remember ever getting really angry at a fictional character. Emotional involvement with the audience is always a plus; as there's bound to be some people watching the anime who have never read the manga. Danny's death should at least get them invested enough in wanting to see Dio's fall. They'd be crazy to cut it. As for Danny's absence from the promotional art, I think it's due to marketing wanting to focus on the two leads of the story. At least, I hope that's the case.

The trailer really has me pumped. Not the glorious sakuga animation I was fantasizing about, but then again, I wasn't really expecting to get that. The art is looking good, and though I dislike the changes made to some of the character designs (especially Speedwagon's), it's not that big of a deal.

The animation is looking to be about mid-budget. Hopefully the animation will kick it up a notch for the bigger battles. Am especially looking forward to Dio's tranformation / the mansion burning down. The direction is looking good from the tailer, as it looks like they're adhering very closely to the manga. Of course the manga is so full of life it could practically be used as a storyboard itself.

I was a bit wary of Jonathan's voice at first, but I really liked his 「エリナに何をしたー！」. Nice and hot blooded. And I thought Dio's voice was just perfect.

The quote at the begining that reads "二人の囚人が鉄格子の窓から外を眺めたとさ。一人は泥を見た。一人は星を見た。" is actually a Japanese translation of a line of poetry by English writer Fredrick Langbridge. The original reads:

Two men look out through the same bars:
One sees the mud, and one the stars.

It does seem like the trailer is focusing on the rivalry between Jojo and Dio, which is a good thing I think. But the cynical part of my can't help thinking that this is just an attempt to get fujoshi interested in the show.

But it's looking good so far and at this point I'm too stoked to really be objective about it. Just seeing a proper Jojo TV anime, the first in the 25 years since the manga debuted, is enough to get me delusional with joy.

The scene in the anime was nowhere near as rage inducing as it was in the manga because they left that out.

I did feel the episode was very well done otherwise. Good direction and competent animators made the most of the budget. Though they did compress some stuff here I was kind of expecting that they wouldn't spend more than one episode with Jonathan and Dio as kids. They at least established Jonathan and Dio's characters, that there is more to the stone mask than meets the eye, and that we should really fucking hate Dio.

All in all I'm happy with it an look forward to the next episode.

I think the cutting out Danny burning had more to do with time than anything. David Production obviously wanted to spend only one episode on Jojo and Dio as kids, and so a lot of stuff was cut. Even the scenes where Jojo gets Danny, and all that stuff. Whereas Danny's death scene in the manga seemed uniquely outrageous, in the anime it was just the latest outrage in the long line of shit Dio was doing to make Jojo miserable. Reading the comments of people who've only seen the anime, most of them really hate Dio, but don't seem that outraged by Danny's death , at least nowhere near to the extent that manga fans were.

I think "the Danny problem" was more of a time thing, then. They just wanted to emphasize Dio's evil and Jonathan's victimization over all. It would be nice if the blu-ray version would have an extended first episode, including all the stuff they cut (you'd think for the price of the blu-ray that they could at least afford to include it). It's not going to happen, though ;_;

I was cautiously optimistic after the first episode, but #2 sealed the deal for me. The adaption is everything I could have hoped for and more. Direction and use of music is wonderful, Dio is even more deliciously evil than he was in the manga, Jonaさん is still a supergentleman, it's great. I can hardly wait a week in between episodes, and I already know that Part 2 is going to be even more amazing.

part 2 is looking to be much more exciting than part 1....and part 1 was damn exciting.

Ahhh, so much to say. I can't remember the last time I watched an episode of anime and had a big grin on my face the entire time. Everything about this episode was perfect. Sugita is such an ideal choice for Joseph, he just nails every line. The BGM was unique and a nice change of pace from PB, now that we're getting into a more comedic arc. The direction remains top notch, I'm super impressed at how cool this show looks with a tiny budget (pic related).

Joseph's antics are better than I could have imagined animated, and seeing him really lose it at the end of the episode was beautiful. I'm highly looking forward to NAZI SCIENCE which seems to have gotten another great VA. This should be fun.

The OP doesn't make much emphasis in the headband, and to say it's obvious it's Caesar's is a little bold considering the art direction both show and OP have that makes the particular zig zag pattern blend with the rest of the elements present in the animation. It takes a couple of watches to make the connection I think. I didn't notice the blood bubble until after I watched the OP several times, and really, if you didn't know ANYTHING about Battle Tendency, would you look at that red sphere floating among many other colorful things and link it to blood or death?

The last scene is the strongest implication to Caesar's death, but it can just be excused as the obligatory lone MC shot showing him struggle, headband aside. People not familiar with the source material would probably take some episodes after meeting Caesar to make a connection, assuming they only watch the OP when they watch the episode, and not over and over like we are.

Considering the amount of characters part six and part seven have, I don't think it's enough. Anasui is supposedly going to be DLC, but that still makes Pucci the only Stone Ocean villain available. I feel like this is wishful thinking but I hope FF makes it in too. It's just strange to have Jolyne and Hermes and not have her.

SBR stands can be a little tricky but you'd think they'd at least include Diego, being Dio and all. Phantom Blood is short so the limited amount of characters isn't really that surprising, and JoJolion is still really young so it can't be helped, but SBR and SO are both finished and have a lot of characters to choose from.

If they're willing to add characters like Akira or Shigekiyo it seems strange that so far they've overlooked those two parts like that.

Well with Stone Ocean there really aren't that many memorable villains that could work in a fighting game. That one meteor guy might work but other than that they all had really strange abilities. Speaking of Purple Haze Feedback, have any of you read any of the other JoJo's novels? I saw the one about George (or is it actually Jorge?) Joestar at my then-local Japanese bookstore, and I started to wonder how they fare, considering Araki didn't write them.

I've heard Jorge Joestar, written by Outarou Majiou, is very nonsensical and not really a story about Jorge and Elizabeth. Things get really... bizarre (thanks to Made in Heaven I think?), Morioh grows legs and runs off, there are multiple Cars and Queen ditches Kira to become Car's stand in the end, or something. It has a connection to Over Heaven, where it apparently confirms that Over Heaven is written by a fake Dio, which is really the only reasoning (or excuse, rather) there can be for the very out of character crap Nisio Isin tries to pass off as Dio's own words and thoughts. I don't know the specifics for this novel, having read the only available translated chapter, but it seems to be about Dio explaining how to reach heaven. I don't know much about these two but considering reviews I've stumbled upon and summaries posted on 4chan, I don't think they're very good, or rather, don't fit JoJo well. They are, along with Purple Haze Feedback (from Kouhei Kadono of Boogiepop Phantom fame), the most recent JoJo novels.

I'm much more interested in a translation for The Book, by Otsuichi. It's a murder mystery set in Morioh after the events of part 4, and tells different stories that I can only assume are connected to a murder scenario Rohan and Koichi encounter after trying to find the owner of a blood-stained cat they find outside a conbini.

Someone in nico adapted this novel into a series of animated comic videos of sorts, which I think is pretty cool. If you can read moon or just want to take a look at it, here's the link:
