Someone at Trigger was tweeting last week about the studio and ended joking about how he was surprised that they were managing to stick to schedules. It was after the SAO episode outsourced to Trigger and they haven't announced anything else, so it must have been this.

So yeah, they're a bunch of lazy asses. That said, I'm really looking forward to this. Especially since it's Yoshinari You's directorial debut, that episode of PanSuto aside.

Not exactly news, but I haven't seen anyone talking about Sasami-san here.

>The story follows a hikikomori (shut-in) named Sasami who is unmotivated about even changing clothes or eating. Her brother Kamiomi takes care of her, even though she despises his slave-like nature. Sasami spends her days viewing the outside world via a "Brother Surveillance Tool" on her computer. In the outside world, the three beautiful Yagami sisters and Sasami's brother are in the middle of relationships worthy of a romantic comedy.

- Written by the Soredemo/Koi Senkyo guy, adapted from the novels written by the KKN guy.

It's pretty much been confirmed that the rumored 2013 Hayao Miyazaki film will be 'Kaze Tachinu'. The film is an adaptation of Miyazaki's recent manga about the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the chief designer behind the Zero fighter. Lotsa plane porn is expected.
Takahata's feature, 'Kaguya-hime no Monogatari', will probably be released around the same time, i.e., summer 2013. Prepare to cry your eyes out.

It's going to be interesting to see where Ghibli goes after this, as Takahata and Miyazaki probably are going to retire for real this time. It doesn't look like there's any director there who's good enough to keep the studio together, unless Goro mans up or something.
Hopefully Ghibli won't collapse, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

What's wrong with 24 frames?
>> No.43729
File: r883.png -(19.8 KB, 1396x433) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
30 fps video is noticeably smoother when watched from a computer monitor.

The real difference comes from the fact that (most) computer screens run at 60hz, which allows for even delays between frames. Currently monitors have to show 24fps videos' frames every 2-3-2-3-2 monitor refreshes, which makes slow camera pans etc look slightly jerky.

To the actual animation quality this has little effect because the way animating works.
>> No.43732
In that case, wouldn't it make more sense to go down to 20 FPS? In anime you'd hardly notice the 4-frame difference, it's less work to make (16% less in-between frames) and it solves that issue. Going from 24 to 30 would require 20% more in-between frames, which would significantly raise the budget required to make it.
>> No.43746
Ah, I didn't realize that.

30 fps just means that there's room for 30 frames in one second. You don't have to use all of them.

I dunno if anyone didn't catch Trigger's recent announcement during all the holiday mess and apocalypse whatever (understandable, as it came outta fucking nowhere), but their newest anime, titled 'Infernocop', will premiere on the net on Christmas day, that is, today.

PV here: http://youtu.be/Ky0WPP0ZHF8
“The story deals with those in this world who dwell in the dark, invisible to the naked eye. From time to time, these figures bare their fangs and attack people. Inferno Cop is a messenger of justice who came from the depths of hell to protect people from them.”

So, uh, P&S all over again?

It wasn't "just" an ad, and anyone saying so has no idea what he's talking about. Or rather the project wasn't just this CM, since we've known Animation Do's been working on it for about two years. And that can't possibly be this video, since this isn't even a Do production; it's silly to consider KyoAni and Do as separate entities, but considering this was featured exclusively in Do's site you'd think that they'd go mostly with Do staff, yet the CM staff is full of main!KyoAni big names like Kigami, Ishidate and Nishiya. So yeah, much like Kyoukai no Kanata's CM, this is a tease of a future project that will most likely come to fruition but can't and shouldn't be treated as an announcement trailer.

But hey, you got something right at least. It was very dumb of you.

I want to think so as well, the show was lovely when it had a strong focus on comedy and even the early romance episode (5 I think it was?) was very nice, but it went down the gutter with the last arc. I'd comment what to expect based on what I read from the second novel but I have the feeling they won't stick to it at all, just like with the first season. Even as someone who enjoyed part of the series I fond the LNs to be all sorts of terrible so I can't blame them from making up everything.

If I had to guess I'd say this will air in fall and the second season of Chuu2Koi next winter. Once again they're only working with one novel's worth of material so it's likely they'll only loosely base it on the novels.

It's probably because no one cares about animated shorts though.

>tuka_trg (Otsuka): We want to expand it in some form. But first we need to make sure more people know about the work!

I'm not so sure what I think about this. Although competently executed, the story and setting in LWA were fairly standard. And they'll obviously not manage to keep the animation on the same level for a TV-show...
>> No.45440
>We want to expand it in some form.
Hopefully this implies a movie or more OVAs. Apart from the art and animation, LWA is a bit more generic than people give it credit for. I seriously doubt that the story and setting (as we know it, anyway) could sustain a good TV-series.

>-The title is KILL-LA-KILL

>-Director is Imaishi; series composition is by Kazuki Nakashima (he is writing the entire show himself). Sushio is doing the character designs.

>-The theme is “ruthless sword-fighting action in an all-girls high school” but focused on CHARACTER DRAMA

>-A transfer student wielding a weird sword that looks like half-scissors arrives at a school ruled by power and starts causing trouble.

>-The main characters are heroine Ryuuko and rival Satsuki. Ryuuko’s theme is “UNIFORM X REVENGE”, Satsuki’s theme is “UNIFORM X DOMINATION”. The heart of the show is their relationship and rivalry.

>-They were very specific in saying that both Ryuuko and Satsuki are the “protagonists” and that “their rivalry is what drives the entire series”.

>-Satsuki rules the school with the power of her uniform and Ryuuko opposes her. The main drama is created betwen these two characters.

>-The show has two sides to it: BATTLE MANGA and CHARACTER DRAMA. It is set to run for 2-cours (24-26 episodes).

>-Release date unannounced.

Matoi Ryuuko
“Whatever, I accept your challenge. Come and fight me!”
17 year old girl who transfers into Second Year, Class Kabuto at Honnouji Academy. Has a huge single-bladed scissor and is searching for the lost half. In an Academy ruled by power and authority, she has a fated encounter. (Imaishi and Nakashima described her as lively and cheerful, in direct contrast with Satsuki’s attitude.)

Kiryuuin Satsuki
“You’re just pigs wearing clothes, I’ll force you to surrender to that truth.”
18 year old girl and the Student Council President of Honnouji Academy. Rules the school with an iron fist. She assesses the students’ abilities, and holds the position/authority to draw out power surpassing that of humans. What does she see with those eyes? (Imaishi and Nakashima describe her as “very cool and as hard as ice”.)

Isn't it sad, Azaka?

My half-assed attempt at meme-rehashing aside, does making a 13 episode TV series out of KnK seem kinda pointless to anyone else, or is it just me?

At 13 episodes, it'll be about the same length running time-wise as the OVA's, if not slightly shorter, so they (presumably) won't be able to really do anything new with it, apart from whatever they do to fill in the space left by some of the non-Shiki/Mikiya stuff they leave out.
Animation quality (presumably) won't be on par with the OVA's either, by virtue of the fact it'll be a TV series on a deadline and not a bunch of OVA's with months between releases.

I'm just going from memory here, but the OVA's & epilogue pretty well covered most of the source material, so why create a second adaptation that'll be inferior to the first? Seems like a step backwards to me.
Personally, I think they'd be better off taking a stab DOHOHOHOHO at another adaptation of Tsukihime, which is in more need of love than TYPE-MOON's other franchises.

They were actually movies, so the gap in animation quality is even bigger. Then again, considering Fate/Zero, I can't really complain about ufotable's animation quality.

it was either the scat, the guro, the bestiality, or some combination of those.
>> No.50023
The correct answer is 'all three'. I'm personally not interested in Starless, but removing the extreme content from a game of which the main appeal is extreme content does feel like a questionable move to me.

>The problem we faced in localizing Starless was ensuring we do not endanger our fans (or visual novels as a whole) with material that could be problematic if released in their entirety, since they're not legal everywhere. In some games there's some leeway with the content since it only represents one or two images, and no one cares. But Starless is defined by its most extreme (and awesome) fetishes, and we knew that not all of them could remain in a general English release.
>Our English release will have completely uncensored CGs with no mosaics. Nothing from the main storyline has been cut or changed, and the game experience is nearly the same as the original. If you're familiar with the Starless anime (which also removed content from the game), the experience will be similar.
>The visual elements that will be removed in the English version of Starless will be:
>- CGs related to scatology (usually 2-3 images in a series at the end of a sex scene, occasionally a bit more)
>- CGs related to beastiality
>- CGs related to cutting a certain body part with a guillotine that should not be cut
>Many will agree that these themes are outside the "comfort zone" of most fans. What we want to do is create an awesome experience that fans can enjoy without the most extreme elements causing potential problems for the future of visual novels. The entire story, including the vast majority of the more than 3000 game CGs, and all ten endings, will remain.

>> No.50024
>Understood. Though as a guy who stands at conventions and tries to explain to normal fans that no, these aren't DVDs, they're really a cool kind of game experience from Japan, I am pretty sure that the game without those themes will be easier to sell. But you are right.

>I do think that a scat-less Starless will appeal to more people, actually, since if you ask 100 people off the street if they'd like to play a game like this 98 would say no. The main thing is, we want to avoid doing anything that harms Will (all Japanese companies are super nervous about selling erotic products to the West after Rapelay-gate, and some (I'm looking at you, Minori) are so fearful they put restrictions on normal ero of the kind that's been sold for nearly 20 years. (The upcoming ef release is still lightly censored.)
>We do totally want to do more Empress/Sei Shoujo titles, if sales of this game are good.

>Yes we know there's an odd scat route in some games. The number of scenes that end with a tiny bit of scat is more than 50% in this game, so it would be make too tempting a target by any news media wanting to do a hit piece (please don't make me name the game they brought up last time), or by any DA wanting to make himself look good for his electorate, is just too great. We knew this going into the project -- Will is a great company and they frankly needs to access the outside-of-Japan market if they're going to survive as a company.
>(Not sure if it's common knowledge, but Will is behind another game which got greatly edited to make it all ages, which a lot of fans were not okay with. We will not be making any changes to Starless other than those that are expressly banned by most Western countries. Fans who want the complete experience will have that eventually, they just can't have everything (including the really dark stuff) in the release version.
>Do you really want a huge problem to happen, which stops all the progress visual novels have been making lately?

>We won't change any story elements, we just can't show certain things in a game we'll be shipping to places like Australia. Authorities in conservative countries probably hate the idea of amazingly sexually empowered women, but they can't take action against that. If we are too careless and leave that level of banned visual material in the game, it could be very bad for the finally-taking-off visual novel industry. Nothing story-wise will be changed, though, including endings. Some of those scenes will just be trimmed.

Peter Payne should become a politician. It's amazing how people accept this after the outrage about Moenovel's Konosora release and even Sekai's possibly-censored Grisaia release (the 18+ version of which will be released by totally-not-Sekai, as they've been hinting at). I can't believe how many people genuinely eat up this 'potentially illegal in certain countries that can't do anything to us legally' bullshit when it's obviously an (economically justified) business decision to appeal to more buyers than just the ones that can stomach extreme content.
>> No.50025
Substitute "the future of visual novels" with "the future of our brand".

Laws aren't the problem - their reputation is. It doesn't matter how legal your shit is or if shitty lawsuits are thrown out if the mass media carpet bomb your name for publishing a game with extreme pornography. Which is quite likely, given we're in America.

It's a business decision to be sure, but there are real risks to shipping it uncensored besides simply alienating some potential customers.

>>Fans who want the complete experience will have that eventually, they just can't have everything (including the really dark stuff) in the release version.

Oh, so JAST officially approves of fanmade 'fixes' that restore the game to it's original length?
Does this mean the cut scenes will have their uncensored CGs in the game data directory, and just not available through the main story and CG gallery?

and with the way the recent trend is going, does this mean JAST will not file a claim against a kickstarter project to un-JAST Starless?

>It doesn't matter how legal your shit is or if shitty lawsuits are thrown out if the mass media carpet bomb your name for publishing a game with extreme pornography. Which is quite likely, given we're in America.

Is it really now? Because J-List has been selling stuff with scat for ages now. MangaGamer will be selling euphoria uncut, which has even more extreme content.

And why do you assume it's likely? Just because, in precisely one instance, there was a big news story about how outrageous it is that Japan is making games that glorify rape and these games can be bought in the US? Because what made that story big wasn't that the game was extreme (Rapelay is pretty tame, even compared to games that had already been released officially in English), but rather that

1) It was a video game; that

2) glorified a criminal act (blaming video games for violence was also popular shortly before the Rapelay incident (2009); see Manhunt 2 controversy (2007));

3) the glorified act happened to be rape, a topic that was getting an increasing amount of attention (with feminists complaining about 'rape culture' in cultures where it simply doesn't apply and where it is abuse of the term) (note that this also made it a perfect target for tumblr-style feminists to get attention to their cause); and

4) it came from Japan (i.e. a scary foreign culture); clearly it was a cultural attack intended to corrupt wonderful US values and it shows that rape is completely okay in the barbaric country of Not-US.

"JAPANESE RAPE CULTURE IS CORRUPTING OUR YOUTH THROUGH VIDEO GAMES" makes for a better headline than "JAPAN MAKES GAMES WITH SCAT". The former makes people panic (the best kind of headline, business-wise), while the other makes people shrug. I very much doubt any of the cut content will cause an outrage in the US, as (3D) scat and femdom are produced there and having sex with animals isn't even outlawed in all states, let alone banning (3D) bestiality porn. Further reducing the shock factor is that in RapeLay, "you rape people", actively and interactively. In Starless, you don't actually execute the actions, and even for the protagonist "being shat on" and "having your dick cut off" are passive activities, while "girls are getting fucked by animals" is something the protagonist isn't even directly involved in.

All in all, there's no reason for anybody besides random bloggers to report on an uncensored Starless. It's completely lacking the 'reason you should panic' factor. It is far more likely that MangaGamer's euphoria (where the protagonist tortures girls to death) or Shiny Days (where you fuck a clearly underage girl, in the exceedingly unlikely case JAST won't censor it) would cause an outrage (clearly Japan condones torturing girls to death/violence to women and sex with underage girls).

JAST's fears of fans possibly not liking stories where the protagonist is shat on and gets his dick cut off, however, are entirely justified.

>Does this mean the cut scenes will have their uncensored CGs in the game data directory, and just not available through the main story and CG gallery?

They wouldn't be able to do that without keeping up the 'for legal reasons' facade, because they would be responsible for the content of the game's files. (See also the Hot Coffee mod, which enabled access to files that were already in the game and as a result got Rockstar held responsible.)

>and with the way the recent trend is going, does this mean JAST will not file a claim against a kickstarter project to un-JAST Starless?

I don't know if JAST will, but I'm sure Will (the parent company of Empress, the company behind Starless) won't accept people making money off of their work without getting a cut. I hope they will C&D it, because I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of backers that won't realize that most likely the person making the kickstarter will just run with the money (because what will you do, boycott this random person on the internet's next product?).

Real talk: what kind of disgusting person would want to restore scat to a game? Personally, I only care about censorship when it removes things I like e.g. when Peter-kun-sama decided flat chests were illegal.

I wouldn't buy (or pirate) a game with 50% of scenes including dick-shitting-upon unless there was an option to disable it, so I completely understand JAST's totally reasonable business decision. Bestiality and guro are only mildly off-putting by comparison, but I guess they didn't want to have to call the game "horror".
>> No.50034
I feel this is a significant part of the reason why people are so accepting of this censorship. They say they're against any kind of censorship, but hey, this is something I don't actually care about (and am actually more comfortable without) so I guess we can make an exception!

Then watch as the community gets pissed when JAST cuts the protagonist raping a clearly underage girl from Shiny Days, something FAR more likely to cause legal issues.
>> No.50035
>Personally, I only care about censorship when it removes things I like

And that's the problem. When it's something you are against, you are for the censorship, and everybody hates you. When you are neutral on the subject, everybody hates you for condoning it. And then when they get around to censoring something that you wanted to stay in, everybody laughs at you because this is the path that you've allowed and you reap what you sow.

Also, JAST's example was shitty. The Hot Coffee mod wasn't illegal because it was a graphic depiction of sexual intercourse, it was 'AO' content intentionally released as 'R'. That's what the controvesy was over, them lying to the regulatory body, not the content itself.

I get their decision to focus on the Visual Novel image, but their choice of localizing Starless seems very counter to that idea, and censoring the shit out of it just pisses off people from both sides of that fence.

I ended up buying it

It comes with a pretty nice book called "Crusher Joe Creation Note" that's almost entirely settei. Bonus disc has a ~1.5 hour interview/chat thing with Haruka Takachiho, Yasuhiko Yoshikazu, and Alfin and Joe's seiyuu. Bonus disc also has an additional, pointless recording of the movie. I agree with the Japanese amazon reviewers who said it's too expensive and they could have left out the OVAs because no one wants those. I also bought the Crusher Joe Designer's Note, which nicely complements the book that came with the BD, and which has an interview with Gen Satou and Yasuhiko Yoshikazu. This interview was a lot more interesting to me personally than the one that came with the BD, and it cost less. Designer's Note also reveals the secrets of the Special Design credits. All in all much more bang-per-buck than the BD special features.
