A couple days left until the new season. Nothing on the chart seems particularly interesting to me at a glance except for the continuations of Durarara and Gate, but I've stopped trusting my chart-based first impressions long ago.
That mahou shoujo show looks alright.
>>51282which one?
Dagashi Kashi, because of Aoi Manabu's doujins.Queen's Blade Grimoire and Schwarzesmarken for the girls.Gundam Thunderbolt is awesome.
One has to wonder how somebody could be so retarded to find themselves starved half to death in a crate filled with food.
>>51283The one with the bathing suits obviously.
>>51285This was completely and utterly retarded. Why did I watch this?
>>51290You watched it for Immelman and for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR0PiMTIQ6c
I'm watching like 10 things, but I'm too lazy to type them all out. I'm looking forward to the new Durarara and Dagashi Kashi the most.
>>51291
Phantom World didn't feel very interesting to me. The directing was somehow both boring and too chaotic (which is weird considering the director), and the characters didn't feel interesting or likeable at all. At least it looked nice, being KyoAni and all. So is it just me, or does it feel underwhelming to you guys too?
>>51293https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7ej0h14jj3vlnwe/AABzBEOldbJsDFiSMncVO6wEa/%E3%83%AF%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A5%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AC/%E3%81%84%E3%81%91%E3%81%AA%E3%81%84%E3%83%9C%E3%83%BC%E3%83%80%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%B3?dl=0
KyoAni's new thing was pretty fun, like a more lighthearted KnK. I'll watch to enjoy KyoAni brand fanservice. That PA Works thing about the gay love triangle thing was really shit though, 90% of the episode was some lame riddle they tried to solve and then the romance was shoehorned in out of nowhere right at the end. The show looks pretty ugly too.Prince of Stride is some otome game adaptation so no, thank you.
I will probably only watch durarara. Might just catch up with a few series I meant to watch but never got around to, to fill the gap.
I went into Active Raid without any expectations, not being into either mecha or police stories, but ep1 was surprisingly quite fun.
>>51296Pandora was so budget it impacted the visual comedy too much. Plus it was hellagay.Dagashi was lacking in jokes but I want to fuck the cafe girl.Gyaruko-chan was pretty dull.
I heard some good things about Boku Dake ga Inai Machi before it aired, though it didn't convince me back then. But they were right; ep1 was really, really good. The character interactions were great, and though the plot didn't look very interesting on paper, it was executed in a really exciting manner.Don't re-read the description on the chart. It contains a spoiler for episode 1 (which I completely forgot about, and it probably made the episode more interesting).
Dagashi Kashi's super-exaggerated style really isn't my thing, but there are probably people who will love this show.
I quite liked Koukaku no Pandora's first episode, it was a lot of fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously, yet it's just serious enough to have me wonder what the plot is all about.
Divine Gate was mediocre in every way.
Every second Pandora in the Crimson Shell was on, I could feel my skin writhing around on my bones, begging for me to turn it off. But I stuck it out to the end because I love you, and my only reward was a perpetually increasing sense of bafflement that this thing got made in 2016.
>>51311-some dumb ANN reviewer who hates fun
>>51312Phew. I almost thought that was one of our buns.
3DCG nationalist military organization goes around blowing up foreign sushi shops that don't meet superior Nippon standards. Is this satire?Agree with >>51304 on Dagashi Kashi, seems like typical harem with goofy eyes.
That gay love triangle show's second episode was so horrendously written that it deserves an award. Faggot just busts into someone's house and smugly tells her to stop crying over her dead brother then proceeds to break her mentally in the most condescending way possible, just so he can get her to join the club and further his plans to gayfuck his retarded sensei. None of the other characters even call him on it, I think we were supposed to like him.PA cmon I just want cute Chika shit, you ain't making Hyouka here.
>>51316That's what you get for watching homo shit
Character designs by Carnelian, but they seem kind of muted in the animation. Maybe they spent all their budget on the mecha fights or something. The stills in the ED look more like what I'd expected.
>>51317They baited with a cute girl.
Fanservice has become pretty daring nowadays, hasn't it?
Ao No Kanata seems like it'll be a nice, cute show. Other than that, just GATE for being GATE and PW for being KyoAni. Pretty underwhelming season.
>>51323I'm of the opposite opinion. Besides Durarara and Gate, I'm thoroughly enjoying Koukaku no Pandora, Boku Dake ga Inai Machi and Hai to Gensou to Grimgar. I also liked the first two episodes of Dimension W, but I'll probably drop it due to already watching too many shows. There's also some other shows I enjoyed, but with a season this good I have better things to watch.
Is no one watching Bubuki Buranki? It's the hidden gem of the season.Aside from BBKBRNK, I'm enjoying Erased, Rakugo the Animation, and the 2nd season of Shirayukihime.
>>51326I just can't get past the CGI characters. I don't know if it's the world setting or cheaper animation, but even Sidonia looked better than this despite being from several years ago.
>>51327>>51326I also couldn't stand how soulless the characters looked. I think combining 3D animation with anime style (by which I mean the exact anime look, not the general anime/manga/game/etc design style) just doesn't work. I'm normally not bothered by 3D animation, but when I see the anime style my brain goes into anime mode and expects them to be much more expressive in every way.The only series where I wasn't bothered by 3D was Etotama (at least the 1.5 episodes I watched of it), probably due to how they switched between full 2D and full 3D (as in, character models not even trying to resemble the 2D counterparts), instead of awkwardly trying to fit the 3D animation into a style designed for 2D.
>>51328Etotama 3D was exceptionally good though.
>>51324I really want to like Grimgar, it's the show I've been wanting for years, but goddamn it's been so underwhelming so far. They didn't explain that the cleric guy was consecrating the goblin corpse to stop it raising as a zombie, but we have time for a 5m montage song of girls shopping. Plus that dude is raising more death flags than the Chinese dude in Geass.
>>51328Arc System Works really nailed it with that style of 3D. I hope when anime studios decide to go for 3D, the could at least try to imitate those shaders. Tough luck though that happenning...
>>51334Yeah, I was going to mention Xrd too. It looks so good for a 3D anime game.
Just in case anyone didn't realize who this girl is based on.
>>51338I don't recognize the manga or the character at the bottom.
>>51339Excel from Excel Saga. Koukaku no Pandora was drawn and partially written by the same mangaka.
>>51339Do you have to be 18+ to post on bun?
>>51341No, you don't.
>>51342Go read Excel Saga anyway.
>>51345Looks like my old Excel scans are still on mediafire, so if any new buns want to get into it, here you go. Although it's only 10 volumes out of 27.https://www.mediafire.com/?88s8x9uwbq1ki
>>51345I've never bothered with it because I can't find all 27 volumes anywhere.
>>51347Yeah, I'm surprised no one else has done this, even after all these years.I guess I can continue scanning it, since I have a lot of free time at work (and a scanner). Will make a new thread for it later.
>>51348That would be awesome!
>>51345I don't really read manga, but I'm really enjoying Koukaku no Pandora. Is the Excel Saga anime adaptation worth watching?
>>51356It's hard to say. Koukaku no Pandora has a few small Excel Saga references and some similar sci-fi elements like artificial intelligence/androids/cyborgs, but overall it's pretty different, and it's even more different from the Excel Saga anime. The Excel Saga anime was basically just a silly experimental comedy that stayed away from the manga's main plot. It tried to parody a different genre in every episode, the characters' personalities were changed, the 4th wall was shattered, and the director even added an anime version of himself and gave himself dbz-like super powers. If that sounds like something you'd like, then I guess give an episode a try, but I would personally recommend reading at least 4 or 5 volumes of the manga first.
=GOOD SHIT=Konosuba (sleeper hit, each episode gets better)Dimension W (did not expect to enjoy this as much as I am)Boku Dake (potentially)=SEASONAL FORGETTABLE=Phantom WorldShoujotachiGrimgar (unfortunately)=SHIT=Haruchika (just why)Dagashi (unfunny doujinbait)Bahamut (when you manage to make IS look GOOD nigga you fucked up)I can't even remember what else I'm watching, this season is really bland and uninteresting. Such is Winter.
>>51361Wait move Shoujotachi to SHIT I just saw the new episodes.Fuck anime.
>>51361Thanks for the input, but I disagree.
>>51365On which count?
>>51361...
>>51367 >>51365Only the most verbose and constructive of dissenters on /bun/.
>>51361What about Koukaku no Pandora?
>>51373I have less idea what that show is about than apparently the director.
How would you handle this situation?
Maybe it's because I expected it to be terrible, but the Komugi-chan reboot is surprisingly decent. Minus the CG idol dance scenes, which are just as bad as you'd expect. They did a good job of keeping the spirit of the show with new characters and a different setting, and even though it's different people in charge of the animation they kept a similar style. I'm not quite sure how this even relates to the original show. Is the new Komugi the old Komugi's daughter? The mother is voiced by Momoi Haruko after all, but her name isn't Komugi...Something about the new Komugi feels really down to earth. Especially her relationship with her family, it's so normal. You almost never see anime protagonists sitting around with their family having a normal dinner. I like what they did with episode 4, where Komugi is in the middle of this Ninja Warrior style challenge and is actually winning, but then of course a monster appears and the magical rabbit dude tells her she needs to go fight it. But she doesn't, because "I never win anything, I'm in the lead in this competition, I'm not going to fight your stupid monster until after it's over". It's nice seeing a character act in her own self-interest when it's something really important to her, while still being a nice person who helps others most of the time.Anyways, it's no more than a silly slice-of-life/parody show, but I've enjoyed watching it so far.
Tyuka is never going to recover from this. (Of course she will, but only due to plot magic magically making the problem go away once the dragon is dead.) GATE's take on psychology with Tyuka's PTSD has been horrible the entire time, but this time it really was hilariously bad.To recap: After having Itami affirm that he is her father, she is put to sleep to wake up in a distant land, where she is immediately placed on a battlefield with weaponry she is not familiar with (I'm not sure she's even seen a gun in action throughout the series), is forced to face the monster that killed everybody she knew, and has a heavy weapon she does not understand pushed in her hands, all while a guy she trusts deeply and thinks to be her father shouts in her ear that he is not her father and that her father is dead.I'm not one to condone 'trigger warnings' and such bullshit, but I really don't think this is helping her situation.
>>51390On the other hand, it is quite sadistically amusing that the writer's idea of character development for PTSD elf is to give her more mental trauma.
>>51381this show is heavy hitting to say the least; I'll be damned if I don't have PTSD by the end of it.It's certainly a departure from the "protag saves the day, gets another notch in his belt, on the way to the final episode where he will ultimately triumph" sorts of plotlines.
>>51390I wouldn't worry too much about it. I can't really remember an instance in GATE where the writing was good.
>>51381>>51395What is it?
>>51396>>51381 is Boku Dake ga Inai Machi.>>51395 is about GATE.
>>51397Thank you and thank you for not laughing at my mistake.
>>51401I'll laugh at you in his stead!
Boku Dake might be a few steps short of a masterpiece, but goddamn if it doesn't nail cliffhangers.
I'm really like Boku Dake. Damn, why isn't it more popular in Japan. Also, my last post was years ago.
Thank you, Arthur, for this incredible moment of insight.(why the hell am I still watching Divine Gate what is wrong with me)
>>51422I disagree; most cliffhangers in Boku Dake ga Inai Machi feel really cheap. A proper cliffhanger is the logical result of already running story elements which are not resolved by the end of the episode, but Boku Dake ga Inai Machi frequently introduces elements right at the end of the episode specifically to make a cliffhanger. And let's not forget the extremely cheap cliffhanger at the end of episode 3, where a normal conversation is made to feel ominous by overly dramatic music and a dramatic zoom-in.A proper cliffhanger makes you want to watch how the story continues. But in Boku Dake ga Inai Machi I always know the cliffhanger has little to do with what the next episode is really about; the cliffhanger is quickly resolved (if that's even necessary) and the story continues. And as it's not the culmination of earlier elements, I have little reason to care once I realize of how little consequence they are.
So, final counts:Dropped Shoujo-Tachi, KonoSuba, and Haruchika.Fought my way through Divine Gate.Watched pretty much everything else.Thoroughly enjoyed Boku Dake ga Inai Machi, Ooyasan wa Shishunki, and Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.
Konosuba was great fun though and actually got better as it went on, why would you drop it?
>>51591Eh, the first episode killed any expectations I had. The pacing and tone and everything in general hit me weirdly and I stopped at like the 18 minute mark. Maybe I'll revisit it later if I have time.
>>51591Did it end or do you have to read the LN?
>>51657It's getting a second season.
