Just finished marathoning this. Great series, although it did kind of disappoint during the episodes 'Happy Family Planning', 'ETC' and 'Mellow Maromi', which were practically no more than filler episodes. They were good in their own right (okay, except ETC), but they distract from the awesomeness of the main storyline. Fortunately, the series fully picked up again at episode 12, giving a satisfying conclusion.

One thing I don't understand, though, is the old man's role in the story. Who is he, and why does he know what he knows about Shonen Bat? What is his calculation about, and what does Maniwa realize at the end after making the same calculation?

>Why the change? The old format of local enchantments had proven confusing for a couple of reasons. First, they had words like "creature" and "land" on their type lines, even though they didn't have those types.
-Wizards of the Coast, expressing their confidence in the average player's intelligence.
>> No.16833
In all seriousness, the enchantment -> aura change was a good thing, because otherwise through type modification you could get really fucked up typelines.
For example, is 'enchant artifact creature' an aura that enchants an artifact creature, or an 'enchant artifact' that has been animated? In either case they'd become an 'enchant artifact creature', but with radically different meanings.

Similar oddities have caused other rules changes. For example, it would make no sense to have a creature die just because you changed its creature type to 'Legend'.

Of course, the removal of mana burn proves WOTC really does think players are dumb. But that's not the reason for all of the changes.
>> No.16840
That would be quite the situation. How does something that's simultaneously a creature and a local enchantment work anyways? If it's enchanting another creature, does it have to attack and block in tandem with it?
>> No.16843
>303.4c An Aura can’t enchant itself, and an Aura that's also a creature can't enchant anything. If this occurs somehow, the Aura is put into its owner’s graveyard. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)
Looks like it's similar to Equipment. (When Equipment becomes a creature, it is instantly unattached from whatever it equipped and can't equip a creature anymore.)

>MBS refuses to air Madoka 11 and 12
>Basically, MBS doesn't want to air the final two episodes of Madoka for sensitivity reasons and doesn't care what SHAFT or Gen Urobuchi have to say about it.
>Apparently the delay being MBS's fault is all but officially confirmed
>As we know from a week ago. The episode is done, several staff members have watched it.
>MBS just refuses to air it and refuses to provide an answer why they won't air it besides "it relates to the recent tragedy"
>And if you're wondering why MBS has so much influence in this is because
>1) They sponsored the production of the show
>2) They have an exclusive first airing rights. If they don't get first broadcast of the show, no one else, Internet broadcast including, are allowed to pre-empt them.

Missile Command cannot be fully understood without taking into account its historical context. It is a direct product of its time, a cathartic experience dealing with the fears of the Cold War era. To attenuate its bleak tone, unique in video game history, geographical references to the Californian coast were ultimately dropped from the game.

"It was pretty scary. During the project and for 6 months after the project, I'd wake up in a cold sweat because I'd have these dreams where I'd see the missile streak coming in and I'd see the impact. I would be up on top of a mountain and I'd see the missiles coming in, and I'd know it would be about 30 seconds until the blast hit and fried me to a crisp."
-Dave Theurer, Creator of Missile Command

Just before release, the title of the game was changed to Missile Command. It was originally meant to be titled Armageddon.
>> No.15763
This truly comic aspect of this pasta is - ironically - rarely appreciated by it's reading audience. The pasta itself is a slightly cute attempt to put into words the exceptional level of fear and paranoia average people felt during the cold war's three decades period in which global thermonuclear war could start and end before most of the victims were even aware of it. The irony of the viewers not catching it's drift is that the internet was formed for the purpose of increasing the communication speed between antimissile radar sites, which is to say that this game functions effectively as an early internet simulator, but the internet's denizens never realize it when they read this pasta just as they'll never the true terror of being a human during the cold war.

Hard to believe that people haven't played this game.
I was pretty good at the Mac clone of this ("Patriot Command") when I was a kid. It had a whole bunch more cities, and I'm pretty sure San Francisco was one of them (they weren't the generic cities of the Atari version in the OP).

I should probably be studying for an exam.
Could do something productive, but the exam is more important than other things. It's hard to justify practicing music or writing given the circumstances.
Can't start a video game, otherwise I'll just get wrapped up in it and never get around to the studying. Same thing for books or television.
I'll just sit here and browse the internet for a little bit.
Oh, it's so late already?
I guess I'll go to sleep then.
Not only have I not studied for the exam, I've also accomplished absolutely nothing useful or entertaining today. Maybe it's not quite the same as apathy, but the result is about so.
