This is a thread where we record things from our day-to-day lives. Please take the opportunity to upload a photo or a video, it doesn't have to be funny, interesting, or entertaining, it just has to be made by you.

For videos, I've made a youtube channel for /bun/.

I tried to make a video on my bike, but I got the camera angle wrong and just ended up shooting a half hour of out-of-focus handlebars and road. OTL

Well, I uploaded it anyway. I'm going to buy a mini camera on ebay and duct tape that to my helmet next time, we'll see how that turns out.

Some guy on a forum did something similar for a music video of one of his songs, but he affixed the camera to a bike helmet somehow. I couldn't find the video, regrettably, as it was a few years ago. Still, I feel like something like that might be a bit more suitable? Probably advisable to use multiple forms and points of restraint. There are some instructional videos about it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-Hfs1PiZfI -- this doesn't seem terribly useful, though, wobbly and a bit dangerous for rapid movement.

Eh, I'll try looking a bit more later, I guess.

I played around with a fixed-gear bike today.

Everything on it is so different from my usual bike - the handlebars are narrow and tiny, I can't freewheel, the pedals are old-style cages that are hard to get used to.

But it's really fun to ride fixed
>> No.16388

>But it's really fun to ride fixed

dont say that . i dont now what is the ratio of those gear sizes but it might be impossible to ride such a bike on an country road where you will encounter hills and wind coming at you
>> No.16396
>>16388

The gearing is 48/16, so not too spinny but not as tough as full outer on a road bike.

It's perfectly possible to climb hills and ride into the wind, you just have to pedal harder!
>> No.16403
>>16396

that device that switches gears are broken on my bike so its just like a fixed gear bike. with a smaller gear at the back of the bike.
i went to my country house where my graqndpa lives some 20 to 25 km away. the way to there was fine as wind was blowing in my back and helping me a bit and i pedaled into hills too but when i went back the same day the wind was blowing in my face and maybe spent third of the distance on the bike.

i parted my home at half past 10 arrived at my grandpa maybe at 14 parted again at half past 15 and arrived back home somewhere at 20 00
>> No.16413
>>16403

Oh, this bike I was using is a fixie rather than a singlespeed. You can't freewheel so it's a lot more punishing on the flat and downhill because you're forced to keep pedalling.

I'm not a very fast cyclist but I reckon that if you ride a fixed gear bike every day you'd get fit really quickly

I noticed. My hair looks and feels greasy right now, even though I spent a while on it in the shower. Thankfully, summer break is getting closer, so I won't have to deal with going outside and sweating more than necessary. How short is your hair?

Also, how can you tell you're odourless? People are used to their own scent so they can't really tell just how strong they smell. Have you asked someone else about it to confirm it?

Today I decided to brush my hair after it had dried, because I read somewhere that you had to spread the sebum from the roots to the res of your hair. I spent some time doing so, and when I finished I saw all the grease that got stuck in it.

I don't really mind the greasy hair, I don't touch it anyway, but I never thought this would happen, and it makes me doubt if I can keep up with it. I've always hated seeing things get stuck in my hairbrush. It makes me frustrated and disgusted.

I talked to a friend about my experiment. She has dreadlocks, and told me that when she was going to get the hairstyle, someone suggested her to stop washing her hair before getting the hairstyle. She started by doing it every three days, then it went up to every week, and so on. Right now she only washes her hair every three months. While other dreadlock-sporting individual's hair smells bad, hers doesn't, supposedly because of the washing transition she went through.

I was thinking of trying this process instead. Water-only washing (WO) communities seem to be against the idea of doing even this, but I guess it wouldn't be so bad, even if it takes longer to get used to it.

So I guess I'll wash my hair on Thursday.

I might be wrong, but I'm almost positive you're supposed to use natural boar bristle brushes for this kind of thing -- they distribute the oil in the hair a bit more evenly. They can make some beastly knots, though, so it's worthwhile to get a wide tooth comb to detangle with, first. I don't know if you live in America or if wherever you live organizes their wares like America, but if you go into the hair section for black people (sometimes they dub it "Ethnic haircare") they have them by the dozen. They're generally pretty inexpensive, too, both the comb and the brushes. They probably wouldn't be too much over $5, if they were at all.

Also, I looked Water Only Washing up after you mentioned it earlier, and some people wean themselves off of product rather than doing it all at once? Some do conditioner only, and some wash only once a week, or every few days (I ascribe to the latter just as a general rule).

I don't wash with water only, but I do put (grapeseed) oil in my hair preceding a wash, usually just so it's more uniformly greasy, I guess.

I read about the boar bristle brush, but I couldn't find any at local stores. Maybe I have to ask at specialized stores.

I've given up on the hardcore method and decided to start slowly, one day water-only and one day using shampoo.

Well, the black switches feel different to a regular keyboard. They're linear switches so they travel straight down with no "bump" to overcome, and the actuation is about halfway down the travel distance rather than at the bottom of the travel distance like a regular keyboard. In the video you can see me struggling not to bottom-out the keys with every stroke. It's explained clearly in this forum post. http://www.overclock.net/keyboards/491752-mechanical-keyboard-guide.html

But to actually answer your question, there's nothing particularly amazing about it. It just feels different and looks cool. It's nice and compact too

Oh that wasn't me, don't worry. It rained again last night while I was out, and by the time I came back home the kitten was gone. I didn't see it when I went out to the backyard for breakfast and morning playtime with Claudia, but I didn't go check the place the neighbour told me had heard kitten-like meowing. There's no dead kitten on the street either so hopefully it's okay.

I can't really tell for sure if the kittens, if they exist, are still there on the empty house my neighbour heard the noise, because the fence won't let me get near the hallway they supposedly were born and live in. I honestly can't even tell if that was my cat's kitten. I just assumed it was hers because I remember her having a large abdomen the first time I saw her, there are only two more outdoors cats (one possibly a stray) that could be the mother, and she didn't act agressively towards the little guy. She even groomed it and kept it close to her.
>> No.19401
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk5LMk2AdXg

I have confirmed the kitten lives in our backyard, but we just never see it most of the time because it will hide and stay very quiet in a hard to reach spot if it hears us getting near. I was able to grab it by surprise to take a closer look before it was able to jump back to its hiding spot.

Claudia grooms and feeds the kitten alright, so I guess it is hers, unless she decided to adopt it for some reason. There are no more kittens hiding in the backyard and she doesn't seem to visit the empty house anymore, so maybe they all died. I'm a bit worried about the kitten's development. Isn't it important for an animal like this one to be able to socialize with the rest of the litter?

I had to take this video from upstairs so they wouldn't notice me.

I went out to feed Claudia and kitten today and I had to smell the worst shit these cats have shat to this day. Claudia had diarrhea a couple of days ago, I don't know if it has anything to do with it. Their feces were solid today, but they were pretty much of the same color the diarrhea was, that sickly mustard yellow tone we're probably all familiar with.

The kitten was being especially annoying today, and I ended up pushing it away rather harshly when it wouldn't stop getting in the way while I was trying to clean up the litter box. I felt bad so I went to check on it after I was done, and then I saw something wriggling on its furcoat. It was an earthworm, but I got so freaked out and started thinking maybe they are really diseased and I can't take them to the vet and pay for a deworming treatment and all the shots pets are supposed to get, and so on. I ran inside, found a lighter and went back out to burn the worm.

I feel bad now because I like earthworms and it's been raining so much so it probably just came out of somewhere, the kitten loves running around everywhere after all. Can earthworms even get inside you and eat you and make you sick and do horrible things to your body?

Keeping outdoor pets is HARD.

First day without the kitten, feels bad man. No scratching and biting at my ankles when I'm walking around watering the plants or while I'm serving the cat food. Claudia didn't look like she missed him much, but I'm no cat body language expert, so... She did do something unusual though. I was doing something at the grill bar, and instead of jumping on to the bar, she jumped into the (conveniently Claudia-sized) hole left in the grill area. That kind of empty area in charcoal grills left there so you can, I don't know, poke the charcoal I guess. Anyway, she jumped in there while I wasn't looking so I got confused when I saw her jumping out of the corner of my eye and then I turned to see her and she wasn't there. She looked adorable in there so I went back inside to get my camera, but by the time I came back she had gotten out of there.

I had my camera out already, so now that there's no photogenic kitten around, I took pictures of my plants instead. I didn't post pictures of them after I repotted them (they're the ones in >>18110), but they're doing fine. They're growing! Look at this one's little sprouts.

I think all the top part with the white needles is how much this one has grown. Something weird's happening to it, I think. You can barely notice in this picture, but the last bit at the top is damaged or separating or something. I don't know if this kind of development is normal for this plant, I don't really know what they all are exactly except for the aloe and the tree-like ones in the background (but I forgot their name).

Aloe had an accident... I don't know what happened but a couple of days ago I found it on the floor. The cats are probably at fault, but it fell too far from where it was on the table, so maybe someone moved it to a spot near the edge and that's why it happened.

I didn't want to throw the broken leaves away so I just left them in the pot.

This one's the one I'm supposed to know the name of but don't. It's still in the crap plastic pot it originally came in, but I don't have the kind of big decent clay pot I'd like to put it in.

...Except for this one. I have no idea what happened to it. I kept it under shade, I kept it in sunlight; I watered it very little weekly and when it didn't look good I tried giving it a little bit of water every other day and freshening its leaves every day. I left it alone after nothing worked and treated it the same as the rest. Eventually it ended up like that.

I don't want to throw it away because it was my favourite, so I just de-potted it and kept it like that.

Holy shit why do we need all of these? I thought our cutlery drawer was a bit cluttered so I opened it the full way and found this mess. Including ones off screen in the wash and still in the drawer that I hadn't excavated yet, we have TWENTY SIX KNIVES. Either everyone who was in the house before us came along with a full set of IKEA's "buy these blunt pieces of shit for your student son/daughter so they won't cut themselves by accident or anything at all intentionally" or this is about four generations of leftover knives. There are four people living in this house, two of whom actually cook things more advanced than super noodles or George Foreman'd pork chops with oven chips.

We don't need that many knives.

Much to the dismay of my super noodling housemate (who never uses the knife drawer but likes knives a lot) we agreed (I decided) to move all but six of these to the corner of a cupboard in the corner of the room. Our knife drawer now has space in it so you can just grab the knife you want instead of digging for it :3

It's the same way at my house. I recently moved them all into their own drawer so they'd stop getting in the way of the other utensils. In addition to these, we've also got a a full set of knives in a knife block (including 8 steak knives) plus a couple decent chef's knives and a paring knife. No one ever even uses that drawer full of old knives unless the good ones are all dirty, which happens at best like once a month. I'm sure someone would complain if I threw them out though, so they're just sitting in their drawer for now.

When I first moved in, we only had 4 or 5 butter knives, most of which were the super bargain ones that get bent when you try to spread peanut butter, so I did use the steak knives for butter knife purposes for a while. We've since gotten some actual butter knives though, and that took the usefulness out of the dull steak knives.

My pipe, in video form. To explain what's going on in stages:

-Lighting the pipe initially: I light up, but this only burns the top layer and as it's exposed to the air, it burns out quickly. This is normal.
-Tamping the tobacco: the tobacco at the top loosens up as it burns, so I'm pushing it down. This gives me a layer of ash over the top of the bowl, so what burns below it will burn slowly and stay alight longer.
-Relighting the pipe: Now I've got a good start to the bowl, I can light it up again and puff away happily.

Since I made the first post, but the pain only lasted that day, afterwards she behaved normally. I noticed the parts she had complained about felt a bit hard, but I can't tell if it had always been like that. I also can't remember if it was just one side that hurt. She licks herself, but like she always has; no extra licking in any particular zones, as far as I can tell. No vaccines, I've had her since summer.

She's back to eating normally but I don't know if her urine changed. I don't really look when she goes to the bathroom but there are no odd colors in the litterbox.

The red dot indicates the place where she had abscess if it matters. The skin has gotten slightly darker around the area over the past couple of days which is weird I think. I might take her to the vet later today.

Got more bites yesterday before I could take her to the vet. They put these tubes there so the infection drains through them and the wounds above heal faster. I've seen him a couple of times this week but I'm always too tired to try chasing him. I don't think I can kill the cat, even though sometimes I really feel like doing so. After all, if I didn't leave Claudia alone outside for so long none of this would have happened.

Today we took her to the vet and they removed the tubes. The vet said it's looking good. All the wounds have closed and all that's left is for the tube openings to close. A couple of days ago someone came to put wire on the backyard's door and spikes on top so no cat can climb in or out, we haven't tested it yet but it'll hopefully keep the damn tomcats at bay.

I should have taken a video of the tube removing. It was quick and gross, but kind of cool.

Yeah, it's the road running up to main character's cafe. The fact that this is the iconic symbol of YKK and not the cafe itself speaks rather nicely about the nature of the series, I feel. It has depth in a non-asshole way, in that you can appreciate it at any level you want and it's still great. My uncle gave me his EOS 750 and he included his 35-105mm f3.5-4.5 lens and a some 28mm lens. I'd imagine these are the stock kit lens and they are trash right? They are also really old. Because of these lenses I was thinking of just grabbing the canon since I can use these ones.

Ah, if you already have two lenses than I'd go with the Canon and save a couple hundred dollars/quids/yuros/etc. I don't know much about Canon lenses though. Do they work on the mount on the APS-C DSLR cameras?

The old lenses work. Hope they aren't bad but I'm thinking they are.

I might be joining the SGS3 bandwagon as well. Just waiting for the seller to make a confirmation of something before I send my payment. I won the auction for $335 as the phone has a minor crack on the corner of the screen.
I really wish the international version with the Exynos processor had pentaband radio. I would have preferred that to the nerfed S4.

"Sorry i m new to this ebay selling thing so i am not
Familier with it as some one who would use it everyday.
And i sold my phone for more than ur auction so
I prefered selling it to that person."

Maybe I should just wait for the eventual 32GB Nexus 4.

Photograph taken at YYZ Artist Outlet in Toronto. "Wood Songs" (2002) by Elisa Strinna and Eva Cenghiaro.
I asked the staff if I could listen to it. Sounded like ambient noise. Cool stuff.

My eBay SGS3 adventure sure is atypical to my previous experience.
On top of (>>31101), my next I9300 purchase turned out to be an I747 instead. At least it came unlocked, so I'm keeping it.

First food photography with it. I didn't realize until I had devoured the food that the photo came out blurry. Other than that, it seems to be an upgrade from my HTC Amaze's camera.
