People have never liked his eyes.

When he was younger and prone to forgetting his sunglasses, people would stare. Cashiers at grocery stores, at coffee shops, at movie rental places, and even at the one Chinese food takeout joint he went to on Tuesdays, would stammer and look away, or they would stare, gray-faced, with their mouths hanging open until he politely coughed and asked for the total. From the time he was very young, people- his parents included- hated his eyes, and never looked into them for long. When he was in school- elementary, middle, and high- both students and teachers avoided him. He was never picked on, but neither did he have friends. His eyes drove them away.

He doesn't understand what's wrong with his eyes. When he looks in the mirror, they look like perfectly normal eyes. They are wide, but not unusually so. They have sclera, they have pupils, and they have irises. The irises are both blue.

Now he keeps his head down. His bosses at work permit him to wear the sunglasses, though no one else is allowed to. He works at an office building for a large corporation. He has no idea what the company does, really. Nor did he apply for the job. A black van had pulled up against the side of the road as he was heading home, and a man had stepped out. The man had worn a suit and approached him, asking to see his eyes. He had no idea how the man knew about him or his eyes, but he obliged anyway without asking for details. The man looked for almost a minute- the longest anyone had ever voluntarily looked at them before- and then, apparently satisfied, gave him a folder filled with the appropriate employment paperwork. He'd started the Monday after. That was almost a year ago.

His job consists mostly of sitting quietly in the cubicle assigned to him, in a room in the back, away from other cubicles. Sometimes they forget to turn the lights on in his back room, or someone will forget he's there and will turn the lights off, and he will be left in the dark. He doesn't mind that, and uses the time to catch up on sleep. When he sleeps at home, he has terrible nightmares about shadowed figures in a black, dead world, but in the office he doesn't dream at all. When he first started, he felt guilty about sleeping on the job until the man who'd hired him- his supervisor, now- told him it was alright. He was, and is, very grateful.

Occasionally, someone in a suit from the Top Floor will come into the room, and ask him to come upstairs. The person, the obviously Important Person, will usually be accompanied by two large men he takes to be bodyguards. Sometimes the Important Person is his supervisor. A lot of the time, it is not. And they don't go all the way upstairs; only executives and other such important people are allowed up there, but they go a few floors up and into a blank, white room.

The only furniture in the room is a table and two chairs seated on either side of the table. They will sit him down on one side and sit another person, a person whose loyalty to the company is in question, down across from him. Then, the Important Person will ask him to remove his sunglasses. He always does.

Reactions from the potentially disloyal employees vary. Sometimes their eyes will widen and the blood will drain from their face. Sometimes they scream, or squeal, or make stifled choking noises. Often times they curse, or shout out the names of religious figures. If they look away, the Important Person will have the men with large muscles force the employee's head still, so that they are forced to look at his eyes.

He is usually embarrassed by this point, and would gladly close his eyes, or put his glasses back on, or even better, leave, but this is what the company is paying him to do, and it's hard for him to find work. He does not want to lose this job, so he continues staring levelly at the employee, and will continue to do so until they faint, or start to scream, or attack the men holding them. Often, they cry before that point.

He hates seeing people cry.

Eventually, they'll confess to whatever crime, real or imaginary, that the company has accused them of, and they are led, weeping, away. Sometimes they have to be carried out by the muscled men. The Important Person will follow them out.

Nobody looks at him, even after he's put his glasses back on. Nobody escorts him out, but that's alright; he knows how to get back downstairs. He'll returns to his cubicle and sleep. He never dreams in his cubicle, and for that, he is very thankful.

There was a somewhat decent transition period where the sea of piss was being turned into more structured lakes, like sort of lagoon shaped pools that still had mud at the bottom from 2008-2010.

Then wikileaks happened and the shadow government organizations of the world that secretly work with each other occasionally for mutual benefits decided it was about time to found the cyberpolice and kick 1984 into overdrive. Of course there was a vast pool of useful idiots available called liberals so they decided to disguise their plan for a controlled internet as some sort of liberal crusade against "mean old baka cyber-bullies who only want to bully celebrities and shitlord stuff! >:C", hence tumblr.

So now, not only are we living in a post-facebook internet, but also a post-tumblr internet as well. It seems like the chans are the last true bastion of freedom, a remnant of the sea of piss that was the internet in the 90s and early 2000s, which is why the NSA, CIA and maybe even what ever the KGB turned into are desperate to shut it down.

Am I a fucking genius or what, /jp/?

Lucky Star is the story of the lonely otaku girl Konata. She is abused at both school and home and what we see as the show/manga is actually her dreams of a more normal life. Everyone at school picks on her all the time because she is an otaku and because of fear, she’s unable to stand up to everyone or ask for help All the characters in the story are modified versions of who she knows in real life so that she can be friends with them. In this thread I will reveal Konata’s true world.

Let’s start with Kagami. Kagami is a popular girl from another class, normal in most aspects. Earlier on after Konata had been through a round of bullying where she had been covered in paint and Kagami saw Konata and helped her. Being in another class, Kagami didn’t know of Konata being an otaku and thought she had just gotten into some accident where she had spilled paint on herself. Konata however saw Kagami as a savior and developed a crush on her. However when Kagami finds out about Konata’s status in class Kagami distances herself from Konata because she wants to keep her popularity and is very harsh towards Konata, which manifests in the delusions as Kagami being Tsundere to Konata.

Tsukasa is not actually Kagami’s sister in real life. She’s pretty much the same Kuroko from Index or Liang from Canaan; she treats Kagami as an onee-sama worship figure and even changed her hair color to match Kagami. She always sticks with Kagami and keeps away people she doesn’t like. After Konata gets a crush on Kagami, Tsukasa becomes one of the main bullies in Konata’s class in order to keep Konata away from her onee-sama. In the delusions Konata reverses Tsukasa’s personality to make her timid and makes her Kagami’s actual sister.

Miyuki is the usual rich, beautiful, intelligent, sadist, bitch, bully that you see in anime/manga. She sees Konata as a filthy otaku and is one of the main bullies. She often humiliates Konata and her actually personality is akin to Kyoka Nanjou in Yume Miru Kusuri. She seems nice, but she is always looking for opportunities to humiliate Konata and always has a bunch of suck-up followers that she uses to carry out her will. In the delusions Konata makes her be her outward appearance, always nice to others and behaves like a proper young lady.

Patricia Martin was an American weeaboo. She came to Japan to attend a university in the city the story takes place in so she could fulfill her naïve dream of becoming Japanese. She works at the same café Konata does, which is how Konata knows her. Of course that’s just her legitimate job. At night she sells her body using her appeal as a blonde American as she needs the money in order to keep going. Konata includes her in her fantasies because Patricia is an otaku like Konata and Konata feels a link with her although they don’t really have much of a relationship beyond that of co-workers in real life. Also, both Konata and Patricia get sexually harassed at their job by the customers.

Now for another major source of Konata’s problems, her father Soujirou. When he was younger he was a mild otaku and he fell in love with and married Konata’s mother Kanata. She was also a mild otaku and so therefore was a perfect companion for Soujirou. She died when Konata was young and of course this caused Soujirou a huge amount of despair. He became more and more of an otaku in order to escape from reality and in reality is a NEET that lives on welfare and the salary Konata gets from her job. As time goes on he saw Konata more and more as his dead wife come back to her and that’s when Konata’s life started to go bad. She made Konata become an otaku like her dead mother and made sure she became like Kanata. Eventually he can’t stand it and sexually assaults Konata, calling her Kanata the entire time and crying while doing it. Konata didn’t do anything about it because she saw the pain her dad was in and just let it happen, hoping her dad would get better over time. Over time though the sexual assaults just got worse and he fully sees Konata as Kanata and spends all his time in either a drunken stupor or raping Konata. For her delusions, Konata removed all the really negative aspects of her father while still keeping him mostly the same.

I have 2 theories about Konata’s “cousin” Yui. The first is that she is a social worker that checks up on Konata every once in a while and treats her kindly. These are the only times that Soujirou pretends to act normally in order to keep his precious Konata with him and seeing that Soujirou appears to treat him normally, she is unable to truly do anything for Konata. The second theory is a tad darker and is more likely the right one. She is Soujirou's sister-in-law through his marriage to Kanata. She was also in love in Soujirou but lost to her sister Kanata. She developed a huge resentment to Kanata that continues after her death. She comes to Konata’s home to try and help Soujirou get better and to seduce him. However since Soujirou sees Konata as Kanata, she isn’t able to make any progress. Because of these reasons, Yui hates Konata and whenever she comes over; she beats Konata and sexually abuses her because of her rage against her sister. In the anime this turns into her coming over to “play” with Konata. Konata changed her into an older cousin to make her coming over to play seem more natural.

Yutaka is actually Konata’s cousin, however she’s Yui’s daughter. She was conceived when Yui got drunk one night in despair after Kanata married Soujirou. However the guy left afterwards and Yui never found out where he went, which explains why he is never shown in Konata’s delusions. The anime says she is sickly but that’s actually just a cover, Yui regular beats her out of resentment of her life and hides the signs using sickness as an excuse.

Now for an explanation of the title of the manga/anime Lucky Star. The anime/manga are dreams and delusions that Konata has. Each night before she goes to sleep she looks up and finds her “Lucky Star”, an especially bright star she can see out her window. She imagines that each night. She imagines a world just like Earth orbiting around that star where her delusions take place. Each night she falls asleep imaging this world and continues in her dreams. The op for the anime is actually the op from her mom’s favorite anime that her mom used to sing to Konata before she died.

Finally, the ending of Lucky Star. Throughout high school, things stay the same for Konata. After she graduates, she isn’t able to go to college and lives with her father trying to support both of them. He gets worse over time and after a few months forces her to move with him to a new city where they fake their names and he forces her to marry him, finally allowing him to fully treat her as Kanata in public and private. During this time she gets pregnant with her dad’s child. But she knows that they could not support their baby and keeps it a secret from Soujirou, eventually getting an abortion from a shady back alley doctor. Every night she still sings the op to herself and falls asleep imagining her high school life at the planet orbiting her Lucky Star. She even starts using sleeping pills so she can go to her Lucky Star faster However even this small equilibrium doesn’t hold, Soujirou gets a liver problem and dies because they are unable to afford the surgery that could help him. On his deathbed he continues to treat Konata as Kanata and dies still treating her as his wife.

Burdened by debt, Konata continues to take sleeping pills to go to the Lucky Star, but even her dreams start to become warped and miserable from her mood in reality. She tries higher and higher doses to try and return to her perfect dream world and spends more and more time asleep or unconscious. Finally one day she takes an entire bottle and dies from overdose. Before going into the sleep of death she sings her mother’s song one last time, crying while doing so, and before closing her tear filled eyes for the last time she utters her last words, “I’m coming to live at your world forever Lucky Star, I hope I haven’t kept Kagamin waiting.”

And what happened to everyone else you ask? Most everyone went on to live happy lives. Kagami, after rejecting Konata’s lesbian feelings so often accepts Tsukasa’s lesbian feelings in college and lives with her, living a modest but happy life together. Miyuki went on to marry a rich businessman and proceeded to never have to lift a finger again as a wealthy trophy wife in a big Western mansion. Patricia got over naive love of Japanese culture and ended up marrying one of her clients as a prostitute that got her pregnant. Their married life was troubled ad first but ultimately settled into a peaceful life together. Yui chased after Soujirou when he moved away and dumped her daughter Yutaka with her parents. After Soujirou died she was depressed for a while but ultimately settled down with another man and lived as a housewife, largely intentionally forgetting her past. Yutaka had heavy emotional and physical scars that she never truly recovered from. She didn’t make any friends but wasn’t bullied like Konata, she was just too afraid of other people to make friends. She died in college from complications from an old injury her mother gave her.

The assumption that you will have the same science yield and number of cities is, perhaps, untenable. The additional growth for the prosperity case might allow you to at least get an additional pop per city, but this is balanced by the knowledge version getting an additional +1 science per city for each 4 pop city. Knowledge can also take +2 science per academy if you go that route. Leaf techs can also be had cheaper

For culture, the case is much more easily made for knowledge as picking up 5 policies in the tree negates the 10% penalty and you get a 40% reduction for the cost per city. Virtues also become 10% cheaper. The two 10% bonuses approximately cancel the 20% difference to the utopian health bonus.

The 20% reduction in production is, however, significant (assuming you can get 10 health). One also shouldn't forget the +1 production per basic resource. It is somewhat offset by needing to plop down health buildings, but this certainly doesn't account for 20% of your total production.

Energy is, however, curiously unaffected by health. Seeing that I buy most colonists rather than hard-building them, the production penalty shouldn't affect growth much.

Overall, we can conclude that the knowledge build ignoring health is better at culture but worse at production than the prosperity build. Science-wise they seem rather balanced, so right now I would say both builds are quite viable.

The twist in the third episode was determined during the project proposal stage and involved the death of Mami, a main character figure. This decision was controversial, and Urobuchi told of production staff members continually approaching him and asking him to reconsider due to their own fondness of the character. However, he refused and the plot remained unchanged during production. Nevertheless, Urobuchi realized that this progression could be very hard for viewers to accept and might hurt the overall series' success with some audiences, commenting: "I always thought this is an age where entertainment basically is about soothing and healing, like adopting a style where unchanging day-to-day life is to continue forever."[7]

In an interview with Ultra Jump Egg, Urobuchi gave insight into his writing philosophy, stating that he believed the overarching plot of a story was more important than the characters within it. The Mops-Orden, or Order of the Pug was a para-Masonic society founded by Roman Catholics. It is believed that it was founded in 1740 by Klemens August of Bavaria to bypass the papal bull Eminenti Apostolatus Specula of 1738. I recently thought up this kind of definition: If the present state can conveniently be presented as a game tree, it's not a game. On lap 22, Zorzi pulled off to the left side of the main straight, just after the brow of a hill and a bridge over the track. The car left the track to the right, scraping the metal barriers, hitting an entrance for emergency vehicles, and veering back onto the track. The true meaning of sage means that YOUR POST isn't worthy enough to bump the thread. It's ironic, because you think that you're insulting others while you're just, in fact, insulting yourself. Yes, sage can be used when posting a derogatory comment in a thread that you don't want to bump, but posting with just the word "sage" accomplishes nothing but contribute to spamming the board. The trend of replying with the name of a tripfag and sage is even worse, as it accomplishes nothing and only serves to increase the e-penis of whoever you're "attacking".

The sage feature was never meant to serve as an implied insult or general disagreement! Why people started using it that way is beyond me. There are plenty of reasons why one would choose not to bump a thread with his reply. The same thing was done for the N700系 formations, with all 16 car formations (N and Z formations) using TD drives for the green cars (775形, 776形 and 777形) while the ordinary cars still use the WN drive.

However, the most interesting thing about her is she was originally a creature that knew nothing of love. She came with the sole goal of propagating her species but learned about the human concept of love and accepted it. Her instinct was halted in favor of the desire to be loved. Saya’s single desire to be loved results in a very twisted, yet strangely romantic, situation. Rather than just ignorant, Saya’s sinful actions stem from a very understandable and basic desire. In a way, she is the most pure character of the story; in contrast to the humans who act out of fear, greed, lust, or anger, she acts only out of honest, innocent love. While her actions remain inexcusable, it is difficult to be disgusted by a character with such pure motivations. I think this is a rather revealing characteristic about how we view sin. Not only for others but especially in regards to ourselves, we change how severe the sin seems by attaching different motivations or excuses behind it. Maybe they are realistic excuses but that doesn’t change that sin is sin, and we are in desperate need of forgiveness of sins we try to justify. For Saya, even if she had pure motivations and even if she was ignorant, she is still a sinner.

Despite, or rather, because of the content, Saya no Uta depicts human sinful nature for what it really is: something that should make us sick to our stomachs but also something every person possesses. When you speak of sin, how seriously do you take that word? It’s easy to read the latest news and be disgusted at the most inhumane crime, wondering how anyone can do such a thing, but then go to church and discuss how everyone is a sinner. I think it is a matter of how our individual sinful nature manifests, and I think the sinful nature of humans makes us all capable of equally repulsive actions if the right (or wrong) conditions were placed upon us. Sinning is inevitable, yet I feel Christians are more open to the word sin than most other things. As a result, when society discusses crimes, it is sometimes more repulsive than when church discusses sin. Even though we don’t judge sinners, we judge criminals because the two have become so separated in our minds. I’d like to challenge people, specifically Christians, with a little experiment. Replace every action you consider morally wrong with the word sin and replace sin with the worst thing you can imagine. While I don’t necessarily have a specific goal in mind when I suggest this, I would like to see how it changes how people view sin and sinners both within church settings and in daily life. Christians agree all people are sinners before God; however, putting that into practice means accepting that in the realm of spirituality, the worst criminals are no worse than you and also that you are no better than them.
