I rewatched Madoka because of the side story and it made me release how bad the side story is.
>> No.59856
Yeah, it's just kind of grimdark and annoying. But the show is technically impressive. Very stylish, like Hidamari on its head. Its stylish-ness is meant to supplement a narrative which appeals to that kind of obnoxious Monogatari crowd that's so obsessed with media that's fashionable more so than meaningful, shallow tropes and broad themes. Fashion is the Achilles heel of SHAFT, really.
>> No.59858
The side story isn't even stylistically as good as the original.

Also, I meant to type realize. Why can't I make a post with out a grammatical or spelling error?
>> No.59860
I've only watched the original Madoka and Rebellion. Is Magia Record as bad compared to Madoka as Lostorage is compared to the original Wixoss?
>> No.59862
What are some not well known animus that you like?
For me it's erased.
>> No.59863
I haven't watched Lostorage, so I can't say if that's a good comparison. Magia Record is extremely mediocre at best and it's faults become very clear when viewing back to back with the original. Magia Record left so little impact on me I can barely remember any of the characters names having just watched it, but the original could still make me tear up at times even though I know everything that happens in it. It is also very villain of the week with the through plot having very little progression. It takes them 12 episodes to explain what any who watched the original series would know while throwing in references that anyone who didn't wouldn't understand. They dedicate so little time to the overall plot that most important plot reveals happen during the end credits of the last episode and the preview for the next season. It also fucks up parts of the lore. It seems to suggest that every one knows that there are multiple Kyubeys, which is something Homura only found out after having killed a Kyubey in the original. Another issue being that there are tons magical girls in one territory with may of them working together. Kyouko originally tried to kill Sayaka over her being in a territory that she wanted, with Mami explicitly being stated to be an exception to wanting group cooperation. I suppose it would be difficult for them to have a gacha game with cute girls if they're all spread out and wanted to kill each other over being in the same city, which is what's really important to the creators.
>> No.59864
They already fucked up their own lore with the madoka movies so who cares at this point?

You're trolling, right? If somehow you aren't, Boku Dake ga Inai Machi is incredibly popular (turns out it's even #34 popularity on MAL, which surprises me since I hadn't really heard about it since it aired).

But for a serious answer to the question, Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku completely flew under everyone's radar when it aired, but I quite liked it.

Been playing the FFVII Remake over the past few days, we got it early here in the glorious People's Republic of Australia, which is a fucking first for anything.
Just got through the Sector 7 plate being taken out, and goddamn, even though I knew it was coming, Jessie's death was a motherfucker. I will freely admit I cried manly tears, and several hours later it still hurts.

Yes and no. There's a lot of little things about it that annoy me, but I still mostly enjoyed playing it overall, except for the ending. FFXIII was the last FF game I played too, so I didn't really have high hopes for Remake, plus I was in the group that wanted SE to stick fairly close to the original, which as it turned out they weren't entirely going to do.

I feel like they've changed the music a bit too much, there's lots of overdone orchestral stuff for example, and I don't think a lot of it either fits the scenes they're used for or sufficiently reflects the originals. Some of the English voice acting is a bit flat, and features excessive amounts of giggling & breathing, which I find painful to listen to. I also strongly dislike the fact they call Aeris 'Aerith', I know that was her name in the original Japanese, but it was Aeris in English, and it just sounds better. Aerith sounds like they're talking with a lisp, it's fucking obnoxious. The way they pronounce 'Midgar' is a bit annoying as well, and if they end up pronouncing Yuffie's name as 'Yoofie' again when we get her in the next part I'm going to lose my shit. The dialogue isn't exactly top shelf either, there's lots of generic JRPG drivel in there, I really feel like it needed some better writing. I'm not totally fond of the way some characters are either, for example Tifa has turned into a spineless, inconsistent wet blanket, and she + Aeris together have become insufferable, Reno has been turned into a massive twat, and there's a new chara called Roche who is utterly over the top, irritating and pointless. Also, Jessie's interest in Cloud is way too obvious and overdone.
And the ending is abysmal. I won't spoil it, but it takes the existing story and just drives it over a cliff. Seems like they're trying to shoehorn something into the story that doesn't belong there, and it ends up being totally nonsensical.

On a more positive note, it does look nice, mostly. The new combat system is a little bit hit & miss, guarding and blocking could stand to be a bit sharper and it would be nice if enemies didn't all gang up on whichever character you happen to be controlling (especially annoying when controlling Aeris), but it's good for the most part. The whole Honeybee Inn thing was fun, there were some worries that would get neutered, but it's still there, albeit the ability to find items to make Cloud prettier seems to have been removed, unless I missed something. It's also cool to spend more time hanging around Midgar, though again, albeit that tends to consist of some tedious sidequesting. Spending more time with Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie is also cool, that's something I always thought the original could have done with more of, they're kind of an important part of the early story, but then end up getting turfed reasonably quickly, even if that does help set-up the assault on Shinra HQ. Hanging around with Jessie in particular I really enjoyed, as you might guess, despite the afore-mentioned overdone affection for Cloud. She was always one of my favourite characters, even if she was only a minor side-note in the plot overall.
I quite like the UI in the character menus too, it looks kinda Star Ocean-esque to me. The screen transition to upgrade weapon skills is hideous though, like seriously epilepsy inducing.

So yeah, bit of a mixed bag. It's still FFVII at heart, despite all the changes, so I found some enjoyment in it, but it's not what it could have been. But again, I wanted something different to what SE were doing, so I guess it's not entirely aimed at me.
Might be best to wait for it to come down in price if you're on the fence about picking it up.
>> No.59920
>I was in the group that wanted SE to stick fairly close to the original, which as it turned out they weren't entirely going to do.
I would be playing it for what's different, so that doesn't bother me. Anytime I buy a game I already own that's just a graphical update, I regret it. That being said, I still would want the new stuff to be well written, not just different for the sake of being different.

>Some of the English voice acting is a bit flat, and features excessive amounts of giggling & breathing, which I find painful to listen to.
If I decide to get it, I'll make sure to get the JP version since the EN voice acting is bad.

>Since a reform of the French penal code, introduced in 2013, producing or distributing drawings that represent a minor aged less than 15 years old is considered the same as producing real child pornography and is punishable by up to five years imprisonment and a 75,000 euros fine, even if the drawings are not meant to be distributed.[20][21]
France just passed a law that requires websites to remove and report child pornography within an hour of it being posted or they'll face a massive fine (despite EU telling them to hold off on passing the law while it investigates compatibility with EU law because it obviously does not comply). You're forgetting the 'punk' part of cyberpunk. While '-punk' is nowadays often used as a generic suffix for stylistic genres, this originated with cyberpunk which actually had punks - it isn't true cyberpunk unless it's about rebels fighting the powah. And punk rebels are by definition ugly, intentionally clashing with society's beauty ideals. Sounds like you just want sci-fi, not cyberpunk.

I do think a lot of food that typically gets classified as 'junk food' have an undeservedly negative reputation. Just because such foods are typically made as fatty as possible, drowned in sauce and eaten in overly large portions doesn't mean that's the only way to consume them. They can be eaten normally as proper food, too.

I don't know about burgers being the ultimate form, though. You generally want a significant portion to be meat and a significant portion to be bread, and that leaves little room for other nutritional value. I wouldn't recommend eating just burgers.
>> No.61005
>I don't know about burgers being the ultimate form

This is an anti-American post and therefore made by a terrorist. The is no middle ground on the topic of the glorious burger. As the great patriot George W. This reminds me that I haven't turned on my vita in years. Ion is probably lonely and sad.
>> No.61312
The number of fan translations is more dependent on the number of available and willing fan translators than the number of Japanese releases. Only a tiny fraction of released VNs get translated, so even halving the number of Japanese releases shouldn't cut the number of fan translations down to a third of what it used to be. (And that list of remaining in-progress translations includes some projects that started ages ago; if we were to look at how many fan translations are started the numbers would be even worse.)

>> No.61353
To increase efficiency. I haven't really looked into WebP, but I know that VP9 WebM is significantly more efficient than the previous standard h264 (something like 30% more quality for the same file size) and TONS more efficient than GIF which it's also finally replacing (much smoother animation at much higher resolution and better framerate at a much lower size).

The disadvantage of course is that work is constantly required to keep supporting new formats, and old unmaintained tools will be unable to open new formats. But that's necessary, otherwise we'd still be stuck with BMP and MPEG.

I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

People should stop always assuming malice when more reasonable explanations exist. (And before you say >>61553 was just being ironic, while I don't know where this specific quote was pulled from, an increasing number of people genuinely believe shit like that is part of some global (usually Jewish) conspiracy.)

First of all, 'anime' does not discourage or otherwise affect procreation. Nobody is a virgin because of Astro Boy, Doraemon or Naruto. The only relevant part here (and it's a niche, especially if you use the broader definition of 'anime' to mean any 'anime-style' media including manga) is moe culture, which only originated in the 90s and exploded in the 2000s. Neither moe anime nor non-moe anime discourage thought any more than other visual media does. I'd argue Hollywood movies are a lot worse in this aspect.

Moe culture was not maliciously engineered in order to discourage procreation, it's just a natural side effect of organic cultural trends. The Japanese Economic Miracle ended with an economic bubble that burst between 1988 and 1992. This resulted in young men having trouble finding good employment, having lower wages and worse job stability than in the decades prior. Combined with traditional gender roles and expectations (a man is supposed to be the breadwinner and have a stable job with a decent salary), this caused fewer men to be able to get into relationships*. Unable to get romantic companionship in real life, fiction became an increasingly popular replacement, and with the increasing demand from this growing group it adapted to it, gradually becoming what we now know as moe culture. (A particularly noticeable example is how a large subset of porn games went from being a chad fucking hoes to relationship simulators where the sex is just an extra around that same time.) It discourages reproduction by filling reproduction-adjacent needs, but it's filling those needs because its audience was not having them filled and were unable to reproduce in the first place.

* This is still the case, see e.g. https://www.u-tokyo.ac.jp/focus/en/press/z0508_00035.html from 2019: "Men were more likely to have had intercourse if they had permanent, full-time employment and lived in cities with more than 1 million inhabitants. Compared to those with the highest incomes, men in the lowest income categories were 10 to 20 times more likely to have no heterosexual experience."

I'm more impressed at how Neptunia got so popular among mainstream audiences when half of it is stuff you simply can't get unless you grew up as a Japanese gamer or are very familiar with Japanese video game culture and history. Hell, a good chunk of V/R;B3's story is about how industry giant NEC threatened to crush the fledgling console gaming industry, while the vast majority of Western players have never even heard of the PC Engine. When you go deeper into it, stuff like the majority of quest descriptions are lost on me as well, with the stuff I do get often being pretty obscure (like the misspelled Horsebirds one).

Fools? perhaps. When dealing with the unknown and the uncertain, it is often difficult to tell whether one is foolish or genius. After all, nothing is foolproof because fools are so ingenious!

Now, for incompetence... that is what I take issue with. I am highly competent in certain areas, and as long as you are honest about what your strengths, weaknesses, and profinities are, it should not be an issue. A skilled fighter pilot may be utterly incompetent at wall street stock trading, but is that really a problem for the fighter pilot?

I used to use Opera, well an outdated version of Opera from before they fucked it up. They made the a blacklist of extensions that the browser would automatically uninstall with no way for the end user to override it. This naturally effected many things that aren't a threat and that every other browser could run like tamper monkey. When I was looking through support forms for a method to fix this, there was a guy complaining that it was quarantining and removing a company extension that he needed for work with a support employee insisting that it was for his safety that it was removed. I don't know of any other browser that oversteps on controlling the end user as much as Opera. Eventually the outdated version of Opera I was using became too deprecated to use effectively, which is why I have been trying out other browsers.

The following might explain things in case you weren't aware:
>More than 90 per cent of Mozilla's funding comes from web search providers that pay for the right to be the default search engine in Firefox in their regions. According to the organization's latest financial figures [PDF], $430m of its 2018 total revenue of $451m came from those internet giants – primarily Google, we understand.
(https://www.theregister.com/2020/08/14/mozilla_google_search/ , though there's plenty of other sources claiming the same)
Google now controls the most popular web browser, controls the underlying tech for every popular web browser, and de facto controls modern technical web standards.

It's ironic, as (pre-Chromium) Opera used to be acclaimed for its customizability. Nowadays, Vivaldi (from one of the former Opera devs) tends to be the go-to choice for a customizable browser.

Rune Factory is a Japanese game. There's no way anything's getting canceled by Western Twitter outrage there. It's not unusual for such games to feature characters you can't date, for example you can't marry Illuminata in RF4 either. Same for Evelyn and Monica in RF3. I haven't played RF5 yet, but I'm pretty sure RF4's Amber is significantly more uoooh than anything RF5 offers, and you could marry her even in the Western RF4S release (2020/2021).

>> No.62073
It doesn't. A new site from the same guy exists, but it's much more limited and has tons of technical issues. On MegaUpload you could just upload any file under the size limit (no account required) and share the link, and it would just work.
>> No.62075
Other than the braindead download mechanism instead of normally downloading files, what technical issues have you had with mega? In my experience it's still worked just fine, and mega links don't break with the frequency of fly-by-night hosting sites with names like "Filegator"
>> No.62077
>Other than the braindead download mechanism instead of normally downloading files
You understand that this is a big deal, right? Uploading happens only once and it can be okay for that to be slightly frustrating. But downloading frequently breaking is a problem that gets multiplied by the number of people trying to download the file. I avoid Mega because there's a decent chance the download will simply fail before it's finished.

I can't believe I'm legitimately defending Discord here, but once a file has been uploaded to Discord, it can be downloaded via a pure HTTP request, zero bullshit involved. You don't need to be on the server, you don't need an account, you don't need the software. Just paste the link in your browser and you have it. You don't even need JavaScript enabled (or even a browser, you can just wget it).

I did a wget on a file from a private Discord server on a PC and network that hasn't run Discord in ages to verify and make sure I'm not saying anything inaccurate. It always works for me.

People can just post links. For example, this image from a private Discord: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/735122757662277733/936405233754599464/javascript_expressions.jpg

The now wigless one chased after the first one while holding a beer bottle in a threatening manner. This was in a touristy area by the Arc de Triomphe. It was also jarring to see military personal fully geared up with automatic weapons wondering around everywhere. Even the middle eastern countries I have been to like Turkey didn't have that.
