Yeah, it's just kind of grimdark and annoying. But the show is technically impressive. Very stylish, like Hidamari on its head. Its stylish-ness is meant to supplement a narrative which appeals to that kind of obnoxious Monogatari crowd that's so obsessed with media that's fashionable more so than meaningful, shallow tropes and broad themes. Fashion is the Achilles heel of SHAFT, really.

The side story isn't even stylistically as good as the original.

I've only watched the original Madoka and Rebellion. Is Magia Record as bad compared to Madoka as Lostorage is compared to the original Wixoss?

I haven't watched Lostorage, so I can't say if that's a good comparison. Magia Record is extremely mediocre at best and it's faults become very clear when viewing back to back with the original. Magia Record left so little impact on me I can barely remember any of the characters names having just watched it, but the original could still make me tear up at times even though I know everything that happens in it. It is also very villain of the week with the through plot having very little progression. It takes them 12 episodes to explain what any who watched the original series would know while throwing in references that anyone who didn't wouldn't understand. They dedicate so little time to the overall plot that most important plot reveals happen during the end credits of the last episode and the preview for the next season. It also fucks up parts of the lore. It seems to suggest that every one knows that there are multiple Kyubeys, which is something Homura only found out after having killed a Kyubey in the original. Another issue being that there are tons magical girls in one territory with may of them working together. Kyouko originally tried to kill Sayaka over her being in a territory that she wanted, with Mami explicitly being stated to be an exception to wanting group cooperation. I suppose it would be difficult for them to have a gacha game with cute girls if they're all spread out and wanted to kill each other over being in the same city, which is what's really important to the creators.
>> No.59864
They already fucked up their own lore with the madoka movies so who cares at this point?

You're trolling, right? If somehow you aren't, Boku Dake ga Inai Machi is incredibly popular (turns out it's even #34 popularity on MAL, which surprises me since I hadn't really heard about it since it aired).

But for a serious answer to the question, Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku completely flew under everyone's radar when it aired, but I quite liked it.

Are you talking about Rebellion or did movies 1 & 2 actually change something? If it's about Rebellion, it's not actually a retcon, just an extension that partially undoes the original ending.

Been playing the FFVII Remake over the past few days, we got it early here in the glorious People's Republic of Australia, which is a fucking first for anything.
Just got through the Sector 7 plate being taken out, and goddamn, even though I knew it was coming, Jessie's death was a motherfucker. I will freely admit I cried manly tears, and several hours later it still hurts.

Yes and no. There's a lot of little things about it that annoy me, but I still mostly enjoyed playing it overall, except for the ending. FFXIII was the last FF game I played too, so I didn't really have high hopes for Remake, plus I was in the group that wanted SE to stick fairly close to the original, which as it turned out they weren't entirely going to do.

I feel like they've changed the music a bit too much, there's lots of overdone orchestral stuff for example, and I don't think a lot of it either fits the scenes they're used for or sufficiently reflects the originals. Some of the English voice acting is a bit flat, and features excessive amounts of giggling & breathing, which I find painful to listen to. I also strongly dislike the fact they call Aeris 'Aerith', I know that was her name in the original Japanese, but it was Aeris in English, and it just sounds better. Aerith sounds like they're talking with a lisp, it's fucking obnoxious. The way they pronounce 'Midgar' is a bit annoying as well, and if they end up pronouncing Yuffie's name as 'Yoofie' again when we get her in the next part I'm going to lose my shit. The dialogue isn't exactly top shelf either, there's lots of generic JRPG drivel in there, I really feel like it needed some better writing. I'm not totally fond of the way some characters are either, for example Tifa has turned into a spineless, inconsistent wet blanket, and she + Aeris together have become insufferable, Reno has been turned into a massive twat, and there's a new chara called Roche who is utterly over the top, irritating and pointless. Also, Jessie's interest in Cloud is way too obvious and overdone.
And the ending is abysmal. I won't spoil it, but it takes the existing story and just drives it over a cliff. Seems like they're trying to shoehorn something into the story that doesn't belong there, and it ends up being totally nonsensical.

On a more positive note, it does look nice, mostly. The new combat system is a little bit hit & miss, guarding and blocking could stand to be a bit sharper and it would be nice if enemies didn't all gang up on whichever character you happen to be controlling (especially annoying when controlling Aeris), but it's good for the most part. The whole Honeybee Inn thing was fun, there were some worries that would get neutered, but it's still there, albeit the ability to find items to make Cloud prettier seems to have been removed, unless I missed something. It's also cool to spend more time hanging around Midgar, though again, albeit that tends to consist of some tedious sidequesting. Spending more time with Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie is also cool, that's something I always thought the original could have done with more of, they're kind of an important part of the early story, but then end up getting turfed reasonably quickly, even if that does help set-up the assault on Shinra HQ. Hanging around with Jessie in particular I really enjoyed, as you might guess, despite the afore-mentioned overdone affection for Cloud. She was always one of my favourite characters, even if she was only a minor side-note in the plot overall.
I quite like the UI in the character menus too, it looks kinda Star Ocean-esque to me. The screen transition to upgrade weapon skills is hideous though, like seriously epilepsy inducing.

So yeah, bit of a mixed bag. It's still FFVII at heart, despite all the changes, so I found some enjoyment in it, but it's not what it could have been. But again, I wanted something different to what SE were doing, so I guess it's not entirely aimed at me.
Might be best to wait for it to come down in price if you're on the fence about picking it up.

>I was in the group that wanted SE to stick fairly close to the original, which as it turned out they weren't entirely going to do.
I would be playing it for what's different, so that doesn't bother me. Anytime I buy a game I already own that's just a graphical update, I regret it. That being said, I still would want the new stuff to be well written, not just different for the sake of being different.

>Some of the English voice acting is a bit flat, and features excessive amounts of giggling & breathing, which I find painful to listen to.
If I decide to get it, I'll make sure to get the JP version since the EN voice acting is bad.

>Since a reform of the French penal code, introduced in 2013, producing or distributing drawings that represent a minor aged less than 15 years old is considered the same as producing real child pornography and is punishable by up to five years imprisonment and a 75,000 euros fine, even if the drawings are not meant to be distributed.[20][21]
France just passed a law that requires websites to remove and report child pornography within an hour of it being posted or they'll face a massive fine (despite EU telling them to hold off on passing the law while it investigates compatibility with EU law because it obviously does not comply). Sites will have to err on the side of caution and remove anything that might be loli. The internet just keeps getting shittier...

Unlikely. There's still some specifics that need to be determined before the law actually goes into effect, but there will be some minimum unique visitor count before you can get fined. I don't think /bun/ will hit the requirement with just the two of us.

What's with the french government, depriving potential criminals of their cope material and wanting them to go out and actually perform heinous acts. Are the french lawmakers all pedos? And why is that whenever this particular topic comes up on bun, posters suddenly crawl out of their holes? At least try to be subtle FBI-san.
